A SPECIAL MESSAGE FOR SUMMER TRAVELERS Would you find it helpful to have your offerings debited directly from your bank account as you probably do with other obligations? Mission San Luis Rey Parish offers electronic giving for those of you who wish to have contributions transferred elec-tronically to the church’s account. If you have plans to travel this summer, electronic giving gives you a convenient way to keep up with your intended offer-ings. Simply scan the QR code with your smartphone or go to sanluisreyparish.org and click on the Parish Office tab, Giving, to get started.

YOU CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE . . . YOU CAN HELP BRING THE GOOD NEWS OF JESUS TO THE POOR . . .

To continue to bring the Gospel to the poor and the needy, priests, deacons, religious and lay catechists serving in the Missions need your support. They need your prayers and your financial support as well. Give this weekend (July 5/6) to the Missions! Donations collected will directly support the Casa Francis-cana in Guaymas, Mexico, under the care of the Franciscan Friars of the Province of Saint Barbara. Casa Franciscana is a unique international ministry of the Franciscan friars of the St. Barbara and Blessed Junipero Serra Provinces, as well as lay people from both Mexico and the United States. For more than 40 years, Casa Franciscana provided a broad range of critical assistance to the people of the struggling port city of Guaymas, Mexico. Casa Fran-ciscana exemplifies the Franciscan spirit in today’s world through its collaborative efforts. Inspired by the vision and ministry of St. Francis of Assisi, the organization offers a variety of direct services to the poor and outcast: Meson de Jesús (Table of Jesus), Meals on Wheels, Food Delivery for the Homebound, Educational Services, Health and Dental Care, Medical Mission and Evangelical Service. To learn more about this ministry, please visit: www.sbfranciscans.org/ministry/casa-franciscana.

Thank you in advance for your generosity

GRIEF: A HEALING JOURNEY Grief Support Ministry

This ministry provides ongoing emotional support for people in the midst of their grief and the healing process. Trained and experienced facilitators guide the group by providing opportu-nities to share experiences, thoughts and feelings with others in similar situations. Our next session will be Thursday, July 10, from 1:00-3:00 p.m. in Rm. #5 of the Parish Center. For more information, please call (760) 757-3651 x164 and leave your name and phone number.

PEACE AND ALL GOOD!

Happy Independence Day weekend! I hope you enjoyed this celebration of our country’s independ-ence and freedom. God created us to be free, with free will. He respects our freedom. So while we cel-ebrate our independence this week, it's important to take some time to pause and give thanks for this freedom. Also, Fr. Martin Ibarra, OFM, is here this weekend at all Masses in support of the Casa Fran-ciscana Outreach and the Franciscan Mission in Guaymas, Sonora, Mexico. Fr. Martin runs a large dining room there to serve the poor, and the out-reach also provides health and social services for children. You can find out more at www.casafranciscanaoutreach.org. You might re-member Fr. Martin from his time when he served as a deacon here at Mission San Luis Rey Parish. He thanks you for your support and generosity and I also thank you. On a personal note, I have a large vegetable gar-den behind the Mission that I work on in the eve-nings. The garden is where I go to relax and have fun. At the beginning of summer, I began my battle with the weeds. At the time of this writing, I declare that I’ve lost the battle and the weeds have won. To top it off, I seem to be attacked by ground squirrels this year who climb and eat the ears of corn right on the stalks. On the bright side, and there is always a bright side, my tomatoes are doing better than last year. Those of you who are gardeners or are former gardeners can surely sympathize with my plight. Overall, I have no reason to complain be-cause life is very good.

Have a wonderful Sunday and a blessed week!

Fr. David Gaa, OFM Pastor

CHRISTMAS IN JULY “SR. GLADY’S JEWELRY

BOUTIQUE” NEEDS YOUR DONATIONS

As the boutique chairwoman for the 8th year, I can tell you that the school is very grate-ful to the generous parishioners who have do-nated jewelry in past years. Last year, we raised $7k for the school! Once again we are collecting and WE DO NEED YOUR HELP. If you have jewel-ry that you never wear, please consider do-nating it to help the school raise funds. We ac-cept costume jewelry of any era, gold and silver jewelry, broken chains, watches (working or not), rosaries, and men's jewelry. We also ac-cept women's accessories, including purses/wallets and trinkets. Without your generosity, there would be no boutique. We rely entirely on parishioners for donations. For more infor-mation or to have jewelry picked up, please call the School at 760-757-3232 or Zofia Dyblie at 760-721-9475.
