YEAR 3 ENGLISH

WEEK COMMENCING: MONDAY 13TH JULY 2020

Lesson 1Key Skill: I can write a short story

Today we are going to write a short story involving Horrid Henry

and the character that you invented last week. To do this you need

to find your storyboard or plan from last week.

Lesson 1 Slide 1

1. There is a school Junior MasterChef competition at school. Both Horrid Henry and Bossy

Brian decide to make a lasagne.

2. Henry wants to win the competition, as Brian beats him at everything. Brian wants to win

because Henry is a copy cat.

3. When Henry is called away from his cooking station, Brian sneaks over and adds very hot

chilli powder to Henry’s tomato sauce.

4. Henry tasted his lasagne. It was so hot, steam was shooting from his ears and he needed to

glug 5 glasses of water. He realised that Bossy Brian had spoiled his Lasagne.

5. Henry swapped his Lasagne for Brian’s. He ate a large piece of it and had to replace it with a

piece of sponge covered in tomato sauce.

6. Cherry Berry tasted Henry’s lasagne and discovered the sponge, so he was disqualified.

When she tasted Brian’s Lasagne she fainted because it was so hot. Henry and Brian had a

food fight

How will you start your story?

This story started with Moody

Margaret hitting the wall with a

stick, because she was angry at

Henry.

Thud!

Thud!

Thud!

Stomping into the bright kitchen, Brian Bossy dragged

out a chair and dropped heavily on to it.

“Horrid Henry!” he fumed, steam almost billowing

from his ears.

As usual, Brian was angry with Henry, because he had

once again, stolen his idea. Again!

Now you can finish your own

Horrid Henry story.

Lesson 2

Lesson 2 Slide 1

Today you are going to design a front cover for

your Horrid Henry story. You should include

drawings of some of the characters and events

from your story. Below are a few Horrid Henry

covers to give you some ideas.

Lesson 2

Lesson 2 Slide 2

Now you need to create a blurb. Below are some blurbs to give

you a few ideas.

Horrid Henry is determined to win the class football match

and defeat Moody Margaret, by whatever means

necessary...

Join the notorious Henry for a super summer holiday as

he raids the Secret Club tent, gives Aerobic Al a run for his

money on sports day, causes chaos on his first TV

appearance, goes on a less-than-awesome camping trip,

and much more.

Horrid Henry receives a most unwelcome present . . .

Horrid Henry can't stand it when Perfect Peter loses a

tooth before him. Why should Peter get a pound from the

Tooth Fairy and not Henry? And then Henry has a brilliant

idea. He will trick the Tooth Fairy.

Write your own poem about what you

could be doing this summer. You could

write about picnics with your family,

playing in the garden, going for long

walks or digging in your allotment.

You can use this writing frame or write

a poem in your own style.

We would like you to create a

poster for next year’s Year 3 that

will help them choose more

exciting vocabulary when

writing.

Here are some examples of

words that you can use for your

poster.

We look forward to seeing your

ideas and maybe even using your

designs in our classroom

displays.
