FOREWORD

Praise to Allah SWT who has give guidance so that I could complete my final

project of High Intermediate 4 entitled “The Three Ways How to Create First Good

Impression for Candidate Interview.”

This essay is written to complete the final task in High Intermediate 4 level. I

would like to say thank you to Mrs. Dini Nuraeni as the teacher that always guided me

to make this essay become good and right, and also I would like to say thank you to my

family for the encouragement and motivation. I hope it can be useful for us. Criticism

and suggestion are needed here to make this essay be better.

Abstract :

The essay will try to inform candidate interview how to be accepted in the company. It can be done using this ways, such as try to have positive thinking, try to have good appearance, try to be interested & interesting when doing the interview. So, with these ways the candidate interview would be easier to get accepted in the company.

Final Comment : That is why it is very important to get attention for candidate interview when doing interview

First impressions are powerful. In the space of seconds, we draw instantaneous

unconscious conclusion about someone when we meet them for the first time. They say that “you

should never judge a book by its cover” meaning that by looking at a book you might think it is

bad just by looking at the book cover without read whole book. It is same as judging people by

the way they look or even sometimes by the way they act. Costume, hair and makeup can

deceive you or at least give you a larger perception of whom a person is. Not everyone is born

same. that is why it makes everyone unique in their own way. You have to get to know the

person first, before you judge them. Once you get to know the person, then you can judge them

by who they really are. Looking a job is a difficult nowadays. Almost everybody try to give their

best when they do the test and the interview. In my opinion, there are three ways to create first

good impression for candidate interview such as have positive thinking, have good appearance,

be interested and interesting.

First, try to have positive thinking. If we have positive thinking, we will experience

pleasant and happy feelings. It will show on the brightness to the eyes, more energy, and

happiness. We also need to know our potential which will motivates us. All you need is do not

doubt yourself. You are more than enough. By knowing your potential, you will believe that you

will success and get accepted in your favorite company. Now that you have something to aim

for, brainstorm for ways to get yourself where you want to be. In addition, manage your thoughts

that can direct to negative things. Negative thoughts and negative words, can create unhappy

feelings, and bad moods. For example ; when you look at the other job applicants out of the

interview room with a gloomy face, it could make us have negative thoughts. This can lead to

failure, frustration and disappointment. So try to think positive during the interview.

Second, try to have good appearance that will reflect your attitude. Your appearance is

important thing that employer will notices when meeting you for a job interview. You can make

a good first impression by dressing formally. Likewise, you can make a bad first impression by

showing up in tattered, tight or inappropriate clothing. For example, an interview in finance or

law requires a conservative business suit and dress shoes, while lifeguard interview simply

requires business casual clothing. If possible, visit the workplace before you interview to get an

idea of what employees wear. Also, relevant with we need to be clean. Being clean means being

well-groomed and smelling good but not swimming in cologne or perfume. Wash, brush and

style your hair appropriately and wear deodorant. Moreover, women should avoid gaudy make

up, apply it conservatively. Select simple jewelry and make sure it suitable and appropriate. For

example, do not carry a multicolored beach bag to a business meeting or sling canvas backpack

over a business suit. With good appearance it will establishes you as someone who takes work

seriously.

The last but not least, try to be interested and interesting when doing interview. For

example if you have already applied for the job, been interviewed, and been offered the job, you

might say “I am interested in the job offer” especially if you follow that with something like, “…

but I have additional questions”. Also, be honest but frame it in positive way. It is best to be

honest about who you are and what you want from a job. For example, if you don’t ask, you have

potentially left a pool of money for someone bolder to take. Be the bold one instead. Honesty

will also create a better match between you and your new employer. What is the sense of faking

it through a series of job interviews, just to take a job you do not like or that does not suit you?

You will just end up repeating the entire process as you look for yet another job. In addition,

show your knowledge about the job that you apply. You need to describe if your skills,

knowledge and experience, match the job outline. While you also need to explain your

motivation and goals. For example,you are economic graduated, then you apply to a bank as a

accountant, you want to be a leader in that bank because you think that you are capable of doing

that. Furthermore, when doing interview, just be yourself. In a business environment, it is best to

be yourself. But remember, sometimes there is a fine line between “being yourself” and being

“business appropriate”. In short, lots of people today are trying really hard to be interesting.

Maybe a few are succeeding. But many efforts are wasted, because everyone is too focused on

being interesting and interested to notice other people’s interesting-ness.

All in all, it is easy to create first good impression for candidate interview as long as you

follow these three ways. As a candidate interview we should act professionally to create first

good impression. That is why it is very important to get attention for candidate interview when

doing interview.
