The Social Bicycle 12 Dec 2012 Abstract It is a social transport system suggested for the city of Bangkok, Thailand. It starts with a bicycle given to every slum dweller as an alternative means of transport. And the ripple effect will empower communities’ sense of autonomy, enhance cooperation, improve livelihood, save money, generate income and guarantee political and social access to urban space. The scalability of such intervention is enormous. It can be expanded as soon as small bank loans for bicycles are recovered. It has the potential to be replicated anywhere. It is sustainable and offers a simple solution to traffic congestion problems plaguing most cities worldwide. It also works to engage all citizens with fun activities and promotes tourism.

This intervention will promote general health, improves the environment, and the social integration between community groups. It draws attention from governments in the long run as it tackles pragmatic transport issues and offers a great alternative to expensive infrastructural systems.
