About Columbus Park FoundationThe Columbus Park Foundation works to create a better, more inclusive community through supporting Columbus Parks and Recreation’s programming and facilities. The Foundation’s goal is to improve the quality of life of our community members through play and recreation, increase our community members’ physical fitness and encourage them to lead a healthier lifestyle, protect our community spaces for future generations, and develop a vibrant, inclusive culture by supporting facilities and programs that encourage connection. The Foundation ensures all resources are used for their intended purposes, and contribute to the preservation and maintenance of top-rated parks and facilities.

Tour de TrailsWe host our Tour de Trails events every year to support our People Trail Network. Our People Trail Network is available for all types of people powered transportation. It is an ever evolving system with a final goal of connecting our community members to work, neighbors and friends, activities, grocery stores, and more. The overall goal for future expansion of our trail system is to bring a trail connection within 3 blocks of 90 percent of our residents. By participating in our Tour de Trails events, you help us raise the needed funds for maintenance and expansion of our People Trail Network.

We held our 20th Tour de Trails Run/Walk in April and 16th Tour de Trails Bicycle Challenge in May. This year, we challenged our community to raise $20,000 for our People Trail Network. You, your friends, and your family worked together to meet the challenge and raised $27,283!

This year we decided to change a few things for the Tour de Trails events. This year the Run/Walk was able to utilize three of our parks connected by our People Trail Network. The event started in Mill Race Park and went through Noblitt Park and Donner Park. We also reintroduced our Team Challenge! Eleven teams worked together to fundraise and share information about our Tour de Trails events among friends and family. Their efforts are one of the reasons that our events were so successful this year. Nancy’s Hikers won bragging rights and our Team Challenge trophy this year.Thank you to all our sponsors, donors and participants!

Tour De Trail Participants

James A. Henderson PlaygroundThe Playground Project began in 2017 when we recognized that we could create a better playground for our community members and visitors. Through community surveys and meetings, we found that our community desired:

• Expanded Inclusive Play Opportunities • Increased Safety and Cleanliness • Additional Sensory Experiences • Opportunities for Socialization

Through an amazing effort by our community members we were able to raise enough funds during a pandemic to begin the project. After reviewing several contracts from different companies, we awarded the contract to Playtime. When we explained to Playtime the needs our community had for a reimagined playground, they were able to answer each need and included creative new elements to the playground. We used new technology playground equipment to make the surfaces and flooring easier to clean and sanitize. We added new play elements to the Playground that creates new sensory experiences for children playing. We created better separation between the toddler area and the rest of the Playground, making it safer for our youngest community members to enjoy the Playground. Additional play elements encourage children to play together and create opportunities to socialize.

The James A. Henderson Playground opened in June to our community members. Before the Playground opened we were able to celebrate our donors, grantors, and supporters with a donor recognition and ribbon cutting. We are grateful to Jim Henderson who answered the call yet again to support our community’s only free indoor playground.
