Thank you to 114 people who signed up last week in our In-Pew Appeal for Volunteers! We are in need of MANY more volunteers to achieve our dream of a Large Event where we invite all of our community neighbors, UNCC students, and parishioners. At least 450 volunteers are needed, so take some time after Mass this weekend to fill in a card in the Narthex with your information and how you are willing to help! Volunteers are needed to prepare food, lead games, serve meals, set-up and tear-down, move trash, sell tickets, find entertainment, and much more!

Polish Mass Honoring Our Lady of Czestochowa and 1st Class Relic of
Pope Saint John Paul II On Sunday, August 24th at 2:00 pm, St. Thomas Aquinas Church will host our Third Annual Diocesan Polish Mass in Honor of Our Lady of Czestochowa. Polish priest, Rev. Matt Nycz of Buffalo, NY will be Celebrant and Rev. Mr. James Witulski of St. Thomas Aquinas Church will assist as Deacon. This Mass will fulfill your Sunday Mass obligation.
Confessions in Polish and English will be heard beginning at 1:00 pm. There will also be a Polish Choir singing traditional Marian hymns. Children in their native attire will also be present to honor Our Lady and Pope Blessed John Paul II.
After the Mass, the faithful will have the opportunity to venerate a 1st Class Relic of Pope SAINT John Paul II; a drop of his blood from the day he was shot in 1981 on a piece of his cassock! There will also be a reception with delicious Polish food!
Your donation of Polish or American food is appreciated and can be dropped off before the Mass at Aquinas Hall, which is located across the courtyard from the Church.
So, if you are Polish, or are of Polish heritage, or just love Our Lady and Saint John Paul II, or if you would like to experience another culture, you are invited to attend this very special Mass.
For additional information, please phone Mary Witulski at (704) 290-6012.
Cantors at St. Thomas Aquinas Have you ever been a cantor before? If not, would you like to explore this unique ministry of leadership? Along with leading the congregation in song, cantors are entrusted with proclaiming the words of the Mass Propers, Responsorial Psalms, Gospel Verses and many other sacred texts. We are currently expanding our number of cantors at STA and would invite you to consider this. All that is required is a good voice and the ability to read music. If you are interested, please contact Tom Savoy at the parish office or see him after any weekend Mass. You can also email him at [email protected].

Readings for the Week
First Reading — You taught your people that those who are just must likewise be kind (Wisdom 12:13, 16-19).
Psalm — Lord, you are good and forgiving (Psalm 86).
Second Reading — The Spirit comes to aid us in our weakness (Romans 8:26-27).
Gospel — Jesus proposes parables to the crowds, teaching them of the reign of God (Matthew 13:24-43 [24-30]).

Today’s Readings
Patiently Awaiting Judgment Matthew, more than any other evangelist, talks about Jesus leaving and returning home. Often Jesus leaves the house because crowds have assembled outside and want to be taught. Today, after having taught and dismissed the crowds, his disciples follow him home, seeking further explanation of
what seem to be, at least to us today, pretty straightforward parables.
For both Matthew and Mark, when Jesus is in the house with his disciples it signals a special teaching moment, and it should cause us today to perk up our ears. Usually it is Jesus giving commonsense advice about what it will mean to follow him. Today is no different. To follow Jesus means to be ready to encounter the followers of evil, to have to live and work and preach among them. It means patiently awaiting the judgment that can only come from God, the judgment of justly deciding who will be thrown into the flame and who will live to be a brightly shining saint. Let us heed this house-teaching, for it will be the same for us who follow Jesus Christ today. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.
Divine Mercy Holy Hour The August Divine Mercy Holy Hour will be Friday, August 1st at 7:00pm. If you are unable to attend, the readings from the Diary of St. Faustina Kowalska can be found on the parish website at http://www.stacharlotte.com/DMR. For more details please call Paul Deer at (704) 948-0628.
Our Lady of Fatima Procession All are invited Wednesday, August 13th at 7:30pm for our next Annual Devotion to Our Lady of Fatima. Each month we will gather on the 13th in prayer and devotion to Our Lady reflecting on her appearances to the Children in Fatima in 1917. Read more of the story of Fatima on our website: stacharlotte.com/fatima.
Our Lady of Fatima appeared to the children on the 13th of each month from May to October in 1917. Each year pilgrims relive this experience with a candle lit procession. Pope Francis dedicated his papacy to Our Lady of Fatima so let us pray to our Universal Church for Our Lady's help and protection. Our Lady of Fatima, pray for us.
A procession is representative of our life journey as the Church, the Bride of Christ, going to meet her Divine Spouse. We offer these processions for an increased devotion to the Immaculate Heart of Mary, the conversion of sinners, and for the souls of the faithful departed.
All are welcome to join us for these special evenings of devotion, recitation of the Rosary, reflection on the message of Our Lady, and candle lit processions around our campus.
Feast of St. Alphonsa of the Immaculate Conception
Please join us for Mass at 5:30pm on Saturday, July 26th as we celebrate the feast day of St. Alphonsa, the first woman saint of India. A reception, hosted by our Indian Community, will follow in Aquinas Hall.
St. Alphonsa was born in Kerala, India, in 1910. She joined the Clarist Convent in Haranan
Ganam, India, in 1927. St. Alphonsa had repeated, severe spells of sickness, pain, & fever. She died on July 28, 1946, at the age of 36. It was her attitude towards suffering and her heroic resignation to it that sanctified her life. A miracle, attributed to her intercession, was approved by Pope John Paul II on July 6, 1985 and, on Oct 12, 2008, St. Alphonsa was canonized by Pope Benedict XVI.
