PARQUE EDUCATIVO CARAMANTA

The Parque Educativo Caramanta responds to the colonial architectural lineage of this small, high altitude town. The project consists of a central plaza bordered by buildings with sloped roofs and large, overhanging eaves, and patios that serve as the threshold between interior private space

and the public realm. The primary courtyard consists of a mosaic of rough-cut stones and which form a terrace to observe the expanse of the valley below.

The project also creates a vital interface between the public domain of the town of Caramanta and the domain of the illegal mining taking place in the

valley below. The project forces a didactic exchange between the picturesque vista it frames and the devastating effects of illegal mining on the environment.
