OPERATTON TECHNIQUE AND HEALING PROCESSOF TELESCOPIC TLEOCOLOSTOMY IN DOGS

The healing process of telescopic anastomoses was foltnd in an animal ex-

periment with 12 mongrel clogs. After the division of vessels an ileal segnent of dif-

ierent length was invaginated into the lumen of the colon using single-layer inter-

rupted sutirres. The following four $otlps were ttsed: Group A (n : 3): end-to-side

ileocolostomy, single-layer interrupted sutr.rre (invagination length: 0 mm), survival

time: 21 days. Grotp B (n:3): invagination length: 20 mm, suryival tirne: 7 days.

Grotrp C (n:3): invagination length: l0 rnrn, snrvival tirne: 2l days. Group D (.n:

3): invagination length: 20 rnm, survival tirne: 21 days. At the end of the above sur-

vival tirnes the anastotl.tosis area was removecl. The bursting prcsstrc was measured

and morphological as well as histological examinations were performed. ln each case

the O-day look-alikes of anastomoses were perfonned using the remnant bowels, and

bursting pressrlre nteasttrements were done on these models as well. Arlastornosis

teat<age áid not occur. The serosal layer of the intracolonic part of the ileurn disap-

peareá drrring the healing prooess. Tlre fiee Surface of tlre intracolonic ileal Scgment

t".u-" covei-ed by the siicling mrcosa of the colon and the prolapsing mucosa of the

ileqrn. The following could be conclr-rded after the experilnents: The inner pressllre

tolerance of a telesópic ileocolostomy promptly after preparation is better tlran in

case of another single-layer anastomosis. This fact results ir.r increased safety against

leakage on the firsipostoperative days. The inner pressure tolerance of.the telescopic

ileocollostorny increases during the healing process and it does not depend on the

length of the invaginate<1 parl (0 day-20 mm: 56 rnmHg * 6, Group A:252+39,GÁup B. 154 + 19, croup c ; 249 + 20, Group D ; 298 + 2). There is no diffcrencc in

p."r*." tolerance betweón the telescopic and the end-to-sidc singleJayer interrupted

anastomoses after the healing process. The invaginated section within the lumen of the

large intestine cloes not suf'fer ischaelnic or any other kjnd of damage' Tlris inexpen-

siv-e and sirnple anastomosis technique could be r-rseful in the veterinary surgioal prac-

tice as well.
