The latest World Bank report says that India has emerged as
world's sixth largest economy. We are proud of what we have
achieved and at the same �me, we also have to look at where
ndwe have come from. Celebra�on of 72 Independence Day
remind us of our du�es as a ci�zen towards the na�on.
Together we can do a lot for the country, we can conserve our
environment, we can safeguard our resources for future
genera�ons and we can drive the Clean India movement. We
must do this together. Recently bicycle rally was organized by
GTU on the occasion of 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma
Gandhi.
GTU has updated the syllabi of the courses through newly formed Board of Studies (BoS) as per the latest announcement
regarding model curriculum for the technical programmes from All India Council for Technical Educa�on (AICTE). University
conducted Faculty Development Programmes on various subjects to keep the young faculty members updated. I also
ndwelcome the students of first batch of Graduate School of Management Studies (GSMS) and 2 batch of GTU- School of
Pharmacy and GTU – School of Engineering and Technological (G-SET) and appreciate their efforts to pay tributes to their
thteachers on the occasion of Teacher's Day on 5 September.
It is encouraging that Gujarat Technological University has received the pres�gious award of 'Most Upcoming University in
Western India' from Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India (ASSOCHAM). Vidushee Gargi –Centre for
Women Development, GTU is con�nuously working on spreading awareness about dealing the issues of sexual harassment at
workplace and legal rights of women.

MBA (Interna�onal Business) programme at
Graduate School of Management Studies
(GSMS) from academic year 2018-19. The
orienta�on programme was held at GTU on th6 August 2018. The Chief Guest was Mr.
Jagat Shah, the CEO of Global Network,
Ahmedabad and the Guest of Honour was Mr.
Ravish Shah, HoD of interna�onal affairs at
Gujarat Forensic Science University,
Gandhinagar. The programme was started by lightening the lamp and GTU Song. Guests were welcomed by Dr.
Pankajray Patel, Director- GTU. Dr. Kaushal Bha� had given the brief introduc�on about GTU, GSMS and MBA
programme (Interna�onal Business). At the end of the programme Dr. Sarika Srivastava proposed vote of thanks.
The event was anchored by Dr. Krishna Vaghela.
ndGujarat Technological University celebrated 72 Independence Day, under the chairmanship of Hon'ble Vice
Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Navin Sheth along with Dr. Rajul Gajjar, Principal of Vishwakarma Government Engineering
College. Many students were present along with GTU staff members to celebrate the Independence Day. Flag
hois�ng was done by Hon'ble Vice Chancellor in presence of Registrar – GTU and Principal – VGEC. Na�onal Anthem
was sung by all the dignitaries and par�cipants. The students of Graduate School of Management Studies made
their presence remarkable by enac�ng a drama which included the schemes and policies of Govt. of India and made
awareness about these policies. Students of Bachpan NGO performed dance. The performances were appreciated
by all the dignitaries. Prof. (Dr.) Navin Sheth, Hon'ble Vice Chancellor remembered the freedom fighters of our
country who sacrificed their lives to get the freedom. The celebra�on was ended with the pledge taken by all
par�cipants for keeping the country clean.

beginning of the inaugura�on ceremony,
tributes were paid to Late Atal Bihari
Vajpayee. Welcome speech was given by
Prof. (Dr.) Navin Sheth, Hon'ble Vice
Chancellor of Gujarat Technological University. Therea�er Mrs. Induma�ben Katardar from Punaru�han Vidyapith
threw light on the subject 'Indian Gyan Samadha and Gyan Tradi�on'. Dr. Rakesh Mishra from Lucknow, Dr.
Mehulbhai Shah from Bhuj, Mr. Bhagwatprasad Sharma from Udaipur, Dr. Ramchandra Bha� from Bangalore, Mr.
Vijay Upadhyay from Nasik, Dr. Kapil Kapoor from Delhi, Mr. Jitendrabhai Shah of LD Indology, Mr. Dineshbhai

Prof. (Dr.) Navin Sheth, Hon. Vice Chancellor, GTU
visited South Africa, Kenya and Tanzania for ten days thfrom September 4 as a part of invited expert in
Vibrant Gujarat 2019 delega�on. The delega�on
was led by Mr. J P Gupta IAS, Principal Secretary
(Water Supply) and Chairman Gujarat Water Supply
& Sewerage Board, Government of Gujarat. During
the visit of said countries, Hon. Vice Chancellor met
with various diplomats, Vice Chancellors, Deans
and Directors of Interna�onal offices of various
universi�es, CEOS of various corporate houses and
other key personals.
Prof. (Dr.) Navin Sheth represented the higher educa�on sector of Gujarat. He discussed about "Gujarat as a
preferred Educa�on Des�na�on in India" during his visit to various universi�es of Africa. All the dignitaries were th thalso invited to par�cipate in Vibrant Gujarat 2019 during 18 to 20 January 2019 at Gandhinagar. GTU has invited 8
technical universi�es of South Africa, Kenya and Tanzania to sign MoU for academic collabora�ons.

INTERNATIONAL EXPEREINCE PROGRAMME (IEP) 2018FOR 6 – 8 WEEKS DURING JUNE - AUGUST
GTU has successfully completed IEP 2018 with Lauren�an University (Canada), Kansas State University (USA),
Wismar University (Germany), Varna University of Management (Bulgaria) and University of Architecture Civil
Engineering & Geodesy (Bulgaria).
GTU organizes IEP with LU, Canada since 2012. Total
214 students par�cipated in IEP 2018 from
Computer Engineering, Informa�on Technology,
Pharmacy and MCA. The students were
accompanied by Prof. Ronak Dedania and Prof.
Dipika Shah as mentors. Along with the learning
and evalua�on of the subjects, students enjoyed
excursion visits at Toronto, Ontario and Niagara
Falls. The students also celebrated Interna�onal
Yoga Day at LU Campus.
GTU is organizing IEP with Kansas State University, USA
since 2012. 35 students from Mechanical Engineering
have par�cipated in IEP 2018 at KSU. The students studied
two subjects namely Power Plant Engineering and
Machine Design during their IEP.
University of Applied Sciences: Technology,
Business and Design is located at Wismar,
Germany. Total 31 students par�cipated in IEP
2018 from the branches - Electrical Engineering,
Electronics and Communica�on Engineering. The
students studied the subjects namely Digital Signal
processing, Tes�ng and Commissioning of
E l e c t r i c a l E q u i p m e n t ' s a n d W i r e l e s s
Communica�ons. The students were accompanied
by mentor Prof. Dwipal Kadia.

ADMISSION OF 52 FOREIGN STUDENTS IN ACADEMIC YEAR 2018-19 at GTU
Very first �me since 2011, GTU has collaborated
with universi�es of Bulgaria in IEP 2018. IEP
2018 was organized at Varna University of
Management (VUM), Dobrich Campus. 47 MBA
students par�cipated in IEP 2018 at VUM. The
students were accompanied by Dr. Sarika
Srivastava, Assistant Professor, Graduate School
of Management Studies (GSMS) - GTU as a
mentor. The students studied two subjects i.e.
I n te r n a� o n a l B u s i n e s s a n d S t rate g i c
Management as well as completed their
Summer Internship Project (SIP) at VUM. The students had also visited 5 industries and learnt about business
processes and strategies with respect to Bulgarian corporates. The group also visited many famous tourist places in
Bulgaria and one neighboring country -Romania. The students also celebrated Interna�onal Yoga Day at VUM
campus. Closing ceremony was organized by VUM to distribute 'Cer�ficate of Par�cipa�on' to all students and both
events were very well covered by local media of Dobrich.
In AY 2018-19, GTU has admi�ed 52 interna�onal
students from 14 countries of Africa, Asia and Middle -
East. When the students report to GTU, Department of
Interna�onal Rela�ons (DIR) provides them a brief
orienta�on regarding various ini�a�ves of the
university and informa�on about the concerned
affiliated ins�tutes along with the necessary
informa�on about important norms and procedures to
follow.
GTU has signed MoU with the University of Architecture
Civil Engineering & Geodesy (UAECG), Bulgaria in 2018. It
is located at Sofia city in Bulgaria. Since the incep�on of
IEP, very first �me, GTU has sent the group of B.Arch.
students under IEP programme. The students were
accompanied by mentor Prof. Shweta Mistry.

FDP ON "SPECTROSCOPIC ANALYSIS IN DRUG DISCOVERY"TH ST FROM 16 TO 21 JULY 2018
THCENTRALIZED ENGINEERING JOB FAIR ON 19 AUGUST 2018 AT GTU
The purpose of the FDP "Spectroscopic
Analysis in Drug Discovery" was to provide the
training in the areas of NMR and Mass
spectroscopy with a view to improve teaching
methodology for this vital topic. Another
important dimension was to enhance skills of
faculty members in the domain of spectral
interpreta�on of drug molecules /new
chemical en��es. The inaugural func�on was
graced by Prof. (Dr.) Navin Sheth, Hon'ble VC
and Prof. (Dr.) S. D. Panchal, Registrar (I/C) and Guest of Honour Mr. Nagesh Nanda. The valedictory func�on was
graced by Prof. (Dr.) S. Y. Gabhe.
In GTU, this kind of Centralized Engineering Job Fair (for
engineering students) was organized first �me for the
students of Mechanical, Civil, Electrical, Automobile
and Produc�on Engineering. 1400 students were short
listed and called in this fair for around 400 job vacancies.

in the Job Fair. Each candidate was given opportunity to
par�cipate in the selec�on process of maximum three
companies. Around 530 candidates have been selected at
the primary stage. These candidates have been offered a
package ranging from 1.30 lakh to 4.50 lakh per annum.

FDP FOR MANAGEMENT FACULTY MEMBERS AT GTUTH THON 25 AND 26 SEPTEMBER 2018
Gujarat Technological University is allo�ed important
and pres�gious project of Vishwakarma Yojana by the
Government of Gujarat through Commissionerate of
Technical Educa�on from the year 2012-13. The aim of
the project is to provide urban ameni�es in rural areas
and maintaining the rural soul. The project provides
"Design to Delivery" solu�on for development of villages
in 'Rurban' areas. A projected development plan, a ready
to execute document, is prepared to define the targets.
All this makes it a successful "Planned" Rurbaniza�on.
Total 32 colleges, 300 students and 41 nodal officers par�cipated in the orienta�on programme. In the PHASE-VI as
an Honorary Director for Vishwakarma Yojana project, Prof. (Dr.) Jayesh Deshkar, Principal-V.V.P Engineering College
has been appointed and under his guidelines four core commi�ee members are working as an Advisor -
Prof.G.A.Patel, Electrical Engineering, GEC-Patan, Prof.Y.B.Bhavsar, Electrical Engineering, VGEC-Chandkheda,
Prof.K.L.Timani, Civil Engineering, VGEC-Chandkheda, Prof.Paresh Nimodiya, Civil Engineering, GEC-Patan.
Gujarat Technological University organized a two days
Faculty Development Programme for the Management
faculty members focusing on the new structure and design
of subjects of first semester of MBA as proposed by AICTE in
its Model Curriculum 2018. The core objec�ve of this
programme was to enhance the quality of Management
educa�on to help meet the expecta�ons of al l
stakeholders. It is important to men�on here that all
par�cipants were aligned in thought and spirit to impar�ng
Management educa�on not only as "Knowledge" but also building relevance to enabling employability skills and
imbibing innova�on in management prac�ces. A special focus was given to need for training on so� skills and life
skills. Besides, emphasis was also laid on making management educa�on more aligned to our na�onal needs of
developing entrepreneurship, promo�ng MSMEs and the social sector and to support the 'Make in India'
movement. Prof. (Dr.) Navin Sheth, Hon. Vice Chancellor, GTU advised all faculty members to build the characters
rather than mere Managers and Dr. S. D. Panchal, I/C Registrar guided all faculty members to deliver the subject
content in the best possible way to enhance the intellectual capabili�es of the students. A great convic�on and
dedicated efforts of the core team comprising of Dr Trup� S Almoula, Dean; Dr Sampada Kapse, Dr Supriya Bhu�ani
and Dr Saurabhi Chaturvedi, Associate Deans were involved in conduc�ng the FDP. Their efforts were backed by the
MBA sec�on of GTU led by Dr Kaushal Bha� and his team.

thJune 2018 and ended on 5 August (45 days). The club has
opened the training session for all interested students who
wish to join in GTU ROBOTICS CLUB. About 129 students have
taken training during these 45 days a�er college hours.
Training was given in two branches - Circuitry and
Mechanical. Common mee�ngs were also arranged on
weekends to share the knowledge by the students of both
branches.
An inter-college startup meet was organized to help the
youngsters on 5th July 2018. GIC organized Startup Clinic
for young entrepreneurs at GTU Innova�on and Start-up
Center-Rajkot on 5th July, 2018. Prof. Parth Sejpal and Ms.
Foram Chandarana conducted the event. During the
event, key points for great startup were discussed which
included 'Write a one-page business plan, decide on a
budget, decide on a legal en�ty, take care of the money,
Get your website, Test sales, difference between a
business and startup'.
Gujarat Technological University is one of the
par�cipa�ng ins�tutes under ISEA (Informa�on
Security Educa�on and Awareness) Project (Phase-II)
under the scheme viz. “Digital India and Manpower
Development” whose objec�ve is capacity building in
the area of informa�on security to address the human
resource requirement of the country. Gujarat

th th2018 at C-i-C3, GTU-Ahmedabad and on 14 & 15 July 2018
at Rajkot Regional Centre in Collabora�on with ACDC
(Advance Circuit Development Center - Surat). The
workshop was aimed to provide knowledge about
comple�ng PCB designing using simula�on tools to test
electronics & electrical circuit in a so�ware environment
and also its fabrica�on, PCB design so�ware named Cad so�
EAGLE & to make physical PCBs at home so that any student
can make a project on his own. Almost 87 students and 5
faculty members from 23 colleges have par�cipated in Ahmedabad zone and 75 students have par�cipated in Rajkot
zone in the workshop.
GIC organized workshop on 'Basics of IPR' for
students at GTU Innova�on and Start-up Center-thRajkot on 10 July. Dr. Ashish M. Kothari (HOD of EC
Department) from the Atmiya Ins�tute of
Technology and Science was the speaker of the
event. He discussed about overview of patent,
process of registering the patent in India, required
legal documents for filing patent, law for patent and
when an innova�on can be patented. Specifica�ons,
patent prosecu�on, patent fees, various forms,
request for examina�on and status of the patent
were also discussed with the students.

GIC organized workshop on “How to Start a Startup” for
students at GTU Innova�on and Start-up Center-Rajkot
on 11th July, 2018. There were 50 students. Mr. Jayson
Ganatra was invited as speaker for the event. He
briefed about Startups that are mushrooming in India.
Apart from introducing everyone to new innova�ons
and ideas, he also gave brief introduc�on of people
from diverse domains. Also Idea Valida�on, Product
Valida�on, Crea�ng Business Model and Business Plan,
Tes�ng Hypotheses and con�nuously improving the product and Startup Idea were discussed during the event.
The main objec�ve to organize the seminar was to
provide knowledge about current technology of
Internet of Things to the students. Internet applica�on
development is in demand. So, Internet of Things (IoT)
is a main technology by which we can produce various
useful internet applica�ons. IoT techniques are very
useful which reduces human effort as well as provide
easy access to physical devices. Mckinsey Global
Ins�tute reports that IoT business will reach 6.2 trillion
in revenue by 2025.
Business Model Canvas is a strategic management and
lean startup template for developing new or
documen�ng exis�ng business models. It is a visual
chart with elements describing a firm's or product's
value proposi�on, infrastructure, customers, and
finances. It assists firms in aligning their ac�vi�es by
illustra�ng poten�al trade-offs. Mr. Jayson Ganatra
ini�ated the session with the very basics. He asked the
par�cipants about their thoughts on the startup
ecosystem and asked them to come up with different and out of the world ideas. Then he con�nued by explaining all
the aspects of the canvas and every column. He also suggested from where to start first so that we don't get
confused in the long run.

of Pharmacy (GSP) jointly organized 34 session of
Patent Clinic Programme for pharmacy, biotech, health
care and allied sector's students and faculty members. It
was a two days' workshop on “Patent Search, Dra�ing &
Filing”.
Gujarat Technological University organized seminar on “Anemia th
Awareness & Correc�on” for all female staff members on 04
August, 2018. Dr. Amrut H. Prajapa�, GTU addressed the audience
and discussed about the importance of awareness of anemia in daily
life and how a person can live healthy life by adop�ng simple health
habits, foods in regular life & taking care of one's health during
childhood, adulthood, pregnancy and old age. Blood test for all
par�cipants was also done to know the level of hemoglobin and
suggest remedies to curb anemia.
The main objec�ve of the event was to create the pla�orm for the
new innovators. Mr. Ja�n Chaudhary was speaker of the event. He
explained briefly about eChai and few necessary factors or key
points for startup. Vishal Sarvaiya gave �ps to students for their
startups. Ms. Shital gave some sugges�ons and discussed the way
to create startups totally different from others.
The session on 'Entrepreneurship and Innova�on'
was conducted at GIC, Rajkot by Dhaval Trivedi. He
explained that entrepreneurship is not about
building only mul�-millionaire company, rather then
it is a prac�ce which integrates values and
responsibili�es towards the society. Concepts of
idea genera�on, designing, manufacturing and
patent of entrepreneurship and innova�on,
monopoly and business strategies were also
discussed.

Over the last two centuries, the evolu�on of Management has gone

GTU Innova�on Council, Surat is one of the regional centers
under aegis of Gujarat Technological University. GIC Surat
started Student Startup Innova�on Policy (SSIP) to evaluate
and support students related innova�ve projects in the
ongoing regular curriculum syllabus. Government of Gujarat
approved grant up to Rs. 2 Lakh to support innovators for ini�al
prototyping of the projects. The project screening was
conducted at Dr. S. & S.S. Ghandhy College Surat. Total 36
teams par�cipated for SSIP project screening.
A�er the successful comple�on of 45 days training sessions of GTU
Robo�cs Club, GRC organized an event of "Mini-Robocon" to make
students enable to implement the knowledge they have gained from the
training. Concept of "Mini-Robocon" is same as of "Robocon" from
releasing of theme to the compe��on rule.

Students get clear idea of what design thinking
actually is and why design thinking is part of
curriculum by a�ending such kind of informa�ve
workshops. Students also get a no�on of as to how
design thinking aligns with industry need.
Gujarat Technological University organized workshop on st
'Bhagwad Gita and our du�es' on 1 September, 2018. The
lecture was given by Mr. K. G. Vanzara, Addi�onal
Secreta r y, D ep a rt ment o f So c ia l Ju s� ce a n d
Empowerment, Government of Gujarat. Prof. (Dr.) Navin
Sheth, Hon'ble Vice Chancellor welcomed him. Mr. K. G.
Vanzara gave Sanskrit verse of 'Bhagavad Gita' to the
audience with Gujara� transmissions and explained the
mysteries contained in simple language.
3D prin�ng technology is a process of making three-
dimensional solid objects from digital file. 3D printer
is used for making proof of concept using any ABS or
PLA material. Students learnt 3D design so�ware,
parts of 3D printer, how to assemble 3D printer.
During the workshop par�cipants designed Circle
Master, GTU Logo, CAD Design Teaching, Mini Robot,
Mobile Stand, Dumble, Keychain, Symbol, Hammer,
Musical Instrument, Mini Car etc. and CiC3 sec�on
printed their developed 3D designed parts in 3D
Printer during workshop.

The birthday of Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, who
was the first Vice-President and second President of
India, is being celebrated as Teacher's Day. The
students of Graduate School of Management
Studies celebrated teacher's day in a unique way.
Students started the program with the prayer,
welcome speech and presenta�ons showing the
importance of the teachers in the life of the
students. The programme ended with cake cu�ng
by professors with their blessings.
Students express their gra�tude and apprecia�on for
their teachers on this day. The func�on was planned
by Dr. Makarand Karkare, Director - GSET with faculty
coordinators. As per the Indian culture, event was
started with prayer. Ms. Yamini, student, GSET gave
speech on the importance of teachers in one's life and
Ms. Twinkle, student, GSP shared her views on the
reason of celebra�ng teacher's day every year. At last,
the Director of GSET, Dr. Karkare explained the
importance of the teacher beau�fully by saying,
“Master means MA ke Ster ka” and also shared
v a r i o u s l i fe i n c i d e n c e s o f D r. S a r v e p a l l i
Radhakrishnan.
