Prayer of Invocation/Confession
Abba Father! We humbly ask You to be
in our midst, with Your power and
with Your sweet communion of love.
As we pour out our love for You,
through our worship, turn weakness
into strength, mourning into dancing
and ashes into beauty. We have victory
and joy that lifts us up before You,
Abba Father. We are walking with the
King of Kings! Holy One, You are our
God and we are Your people. We turn
from our selfish ways and confess our
iniquities. Please forgive what we have
been, fix us where we are broken, and
direct what we shall be, this day, this
hour and this moment. AMEN.
How very good and pleasant it is when
brothers and sisters live together in
unity!
Enter His Gates With Praise Page 2
OFFERTORY PRAYER
Abba Father, we believe the Word found
in Proverbs 11:25, where it says, “The
generous will prosper; those who refresh
others will themselves be refreshed.”
Therefore, we ask You to bless that which
we give today. We come giving joyfully
and without grudge. Forgive us for
offering you that which costs us as little
as possible. Forgive us for not being
concerned about the attitude with which
we have offered You our time, our service,
our gifts and our financial resources.
Forgive us. We desire to give that which
is pleasing to You, Abba Father. We come
with generous hearts. We come giving
You our first and our best! Amen.
“A person who promises a gift but
doesn’t give it is like clouds and wind
that bring no rain.” Proverbs 25:14

DR. CHARLES L. "CHARLIE" SIFFORD (1922-2015), was a
former caddie who cleared a forest of obstacles a half-century
earlier to carve his rightful place in golf, passed away
February 3, 2015 at the age of 92.
Born in Charlotte, North Carolina, on June 2, 1922, Sifford's
interest in golf began as a boy. As he made a living through
caddying, he also had the opportunity to groom his golf skills. By age 13, he was shooting
par golf.
However, his advancement was limited because of race discrimination in the Jim Crow era.
Even though Sifford made significant strides in his career, he continued to be a target of
harassment and death threats prior to and following the abolishment of the "Caucasian-
only" clause.
Sifford was the first person of color to compete in PGA-sanctioned events following the
demise in 1961 of the "Caucasian-only" PGA of America membership clause. Throughout the
world of golf, he was often compared to baseball's Jackie Robinson, and went on to win PGA
Tour events in 1967 and 1969 as well as the 1975 PGA Seniors' Championship.
Sifford honed his game in the United Golf Association, a tournament circuit established in
the mid-1920s by black golfers, and allowed golfers of all races to compete. He won the
UGA's biggest event, the National Negro Open, six times, including five successive years
from 1952 to 1956.
Tony Parker, historian for the World Golf Hall of Fame and Museum in St. Augustine,
Florida, said the battles fought by Sifford and others benefited more than just black
golfers. "He opened the door for all ethnicities," Parker said.
Tiger Woods told The Associated Press in an email that he might never have taken up the
game were it not for Sifford. Woods has long called Sifford the grandfather he never had.
In November, Sifford was among 18 Americans to receive the Presidential
Medal of Freedom, the nation's highest civilian honor, from President
Obama at the White House.
The Presidential Medal of Freedom "felt different than anything else,"
said Sifford, referring to his 2004 induction into the World Golf Hall of
Fame and a 2006 honorary doctorate from the University of St. Andrews,
Scotland. "They say what I did helped African-Americans, but it went
further."

Kirk Byron Jones says: “Fatigue is not the only reason for rest. There are many others, including despondency: how we feel when we give our best and our best doesn’t seem good enough, or when the good and the innocent suffer, or when sufferings don’t want to end. At such times, rest restores and revives us, giving us the energy to keep on keeping on, through it all, no matter what. Moreover, rest offers to our parched lips and souls what Alice Walker calls ‘the true wine of astonishment’: We are not over when we think we are.” Taken from, The Sacred Seven: How to Create, Manage, and Sustain a Fulfilling Life by Kirk Byron Jones
Reminders:
Rest/Pause while doing the “hard work” of grieving and mourning
Rest after an exercise class
Caregivers should schedule rest and breaks when taking care of others
Schedule rest in your day to reconnect, and pray
Scripture: “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”
Jeremiah 29:11 Prayer Dear LORD, help me to schedule a time to rest. I move so quickly thinking I can get so much accomplished on my own. I need You LORD! I am so grateful to You! In the name of Jesus, Amen
