This worship service is a recognition of a promise that Jesus made to his
church. He promised to give some of his people to be pastors and teachers,
workers called to full-time Gospel proclamation. Today we recognize the many years of service the Lord has allowed Mr. Jim Hussman and Mrs.
Lori Miller to have in the teaching ministry. We thank the Lord of the
church for the great blessings of their years of service!

OPENING PRAYER
L In the name of the Father and of the Son (+) and of the Holy Spirit.
C Amen. L Not unto us, O Lord, not unto us but to your name be the glory
C because of your love and faithfulness.
L Gracious Lord, Giver of everything that is good, we praise you for
blessing the ministries of Mr. Hussmann and Mrs. Miller.
C To you we give thanks.
L They have proclaimed your holy name to many children over the
years.
C To you be the praise. L As they finish their labors in the called ministry of teaching, we lift
hearts and voices in thanks to you.
C Not unto us, O Lord, not unto us but to your name be the glory.
L On this Pentecost Sunday we recall your promise to send the Holy
Spirit on your people that we might preach and teach your saving name in all the world.
C By your Holy Spirit we have spoken your truth because we believe your truth.
THE CONFESSION OF SINS AND ABSOLUTION
L As we come before the Holy Lord, we join in confessing our sins
and receiving the assurance of His forgiveness.
C O Lord, most holy and righteous God, we humbly acknowledge that we do not respect you as we should, and that we do not love you above all else. We do not love others as you desire, and our attention too often is on ourselves. We fail to live up to our responsibilities as your people at home, at work, at church, and in the community. We, imperfect, sinful people come to you, our God, and confess our sin and shame. Forgive us, cleanse us, and clothe us with newness of life through Jesus Christ, our risen and ascended Lord. Amen.
5
L God’s Word assures us that, by His will, “we have been made holy
through the sacrifice of the body of Jesus Christ once, for all.” Therefore, as a called servant of God, I proclaim forgiveness to you
through the saving work of Jesus. Your sin is gone. Your guilt
removed. In the peace of forgiveness, we worship the Lord.
C Amen.
PRAYER OF THE DAY
L Holy Spirit, God and Lord, come to us this joyful day with your
sevenfold gift of grace. Rekindle in our hearts the holy fire of your
love that in a true and living faith we may tell abroad the glory of our Savior, Jesus Christ, who lives and reigns with you and the
Father, one God, now and forever.
C Amen.
FIRST LESSON EZEKIEL 37:1-14
The hand of the Lord was upon me. He brought me out by the Spirit
of the Lord and set me down in the middle of a valley, which was full of bones. 2He had me pass through them and go all over among them. There
were very many on the valley floor, and they were very dry. 3He said to me, “Son of man, can these dry bones live?” I answered,
“Lord God, you know.” 4Then he said to me, “Prophesy to these bones
and say to them, ‘Dry bones, hear the word of the Lord.’” 5This is what the Lord God says to these bones. I am about to make breath enter you so that you will live. 6I will attach
tendons to you. I will put flesh back on you. I will cover you with skin and
put breath in you, and you will live. Then you will know that I am the
Lord. 7So I prophesied as I had been commanded, and as I was prophesying
there was a noise, a rattling, as the bones came together, one bone
connecting to another. 8As I watched, tendons were attached to them, then flesh grew over them, and skin covered them. But there was no breath in
them.
6
9Then he said to me, “Prophesy to the wind. Prophesy, son of man, and say to the wind that this is what the Lord God says. From the four
winds, come, O wind, and breathe into these slain so that they may live.” 10So I prophesied as he commanded me. Breath entered them, and they
came back to life. They stood on their feet, a very, very large army. 11Then he said to me, “Son of man, these bones are the whole house of
Israel. They are saying, ‘Our bones are dried up. Our hope is lost. We have been completely cut off.’ 12Therefore, prophesy and say to them that this
is what the Lord God says. My people, I am going to open your graves
and raise you up from your graves and bring you back to the soil of Israel. 13Then you will know that I am the Lord, when I open your graves and
raise you up from your graves, O my people. 14I will put my Spirit in you,
and you will live. I will settle you on your own land, and you will know that I, the Lord, have spoken, and I have done it, declares the Lord.”
CHILDREN’S ANTHEM SEEK YE FIRST
Seek ye first the kingdom of God And His righteousness; And all these things shall be added unto you.
Allelu, alleluia. Ask, and it shall be given unto you; Seek, and ye shall find.
Knock, and the door shall be opened unto you. Allelu, alleluia.
Man does not live by bread alone, But by ev’ry word
That proceeds out from the mouth of the Lord.
Allelu, alleluia.

PENTECOST ACCOUNT ACTS 2:1-21
When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place. 2Suddenly a sound like the rushing of a violent wind came from heaven,
and it filled the whole house where they were sitting. 3They saw divided
tongues that were like fire resting on each one of them. 4They were all
filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other languages, since the
Spirit was giving them the ability to speak fluently. 5Now there were godly Jewish men from every nation under heaven
living in Jerusalem. 6When this sound was heard, a crowd came together
and was confused, because each one heard them speaking in his own
language. 7They were completely baffled and said to each other, “Look,
are not all these men who are speaking Galileans? 8Then how is it that
each of us hears them speaking in his own native language? 9Parthians,
Medes, and Elamites; residents of Mesopotamia, and of Judea,
Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia, 10Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt, and the
parts of Libya around Cyrene; visitors from Rome, both Jews and
proselytes; 11Cretans and Arabs—we hear them declaring in our own
languages the wonderful works of God.” 12They were all amazed and
perplexed. They kept saying to one another, “What does this mean?” 13But
others mocked them and said, “They are full of new wine.”
8
14Then Peter stood up with the Eleven, raised his voice, and spoke
loudly and clearly to them: “Men of Judea, and all you residents of
Jerusalem, understand this, and listen closely to my words. 15These men
are not drunk, as you suppose, for it is only the third hour of the day. 16On
the contrary, this is what was spoken by the prophet Joel: 17This is what God says will happen in the last days:
I will pour out my Spirit on all flesh.
Your sons and your daughters will prophesy.
Your young men will see visions.
Your old men will dream dreams. 18Even on my servants, both men and women,
I will pour out my Spirit in those days,
and they will prophesy. 19I will show wonders in the sky above,
and signs on the earth below,
blood and fire and a rising cloud of smoke. 20The sun will be turned to darkness
and the moon to blood
before the coming of the great and glorious day of the Lord. 21And this will happen: Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord
will be saved.”
10
SERMON JOHN 14:25–27
25“I have told you these things while staying with you. 26But the
Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will
teach you all things and remind you of everything I told you. 27“Peace I leave with you. My peace I give to you. Not as the world
gives do I give to you. Do not let your heart be troubled, and do not let it
be afraid.”
“DO YOU REMEMBER WHAT THE TEACHER SAID?”
PRAYER OF THE CHURCH
L Praise to you, Holy Spirit. We worship and glorify you as the Lord
and the giver of life. As you were present at the beginning of the world
to shed life on all created things, as you gave a new life of
understanding to the disciples in your Pentecost baptism of fire, so by the baptism of water with the Word, you have made the light of faith
shine in our hearts to know Jesus as our Lord. In thanksgiving for
your gifts to us, we confess:
C I believe that I cannot by my own thinking or choosing believe in
Jesus Christ, my Lord, or come to him.
But the Holy Spirit has called me by the gospel, enlightened me with his gifts, sanctified and kept me in the true faith. In the same way he calls, gathers, enlightens, and sanctifies the whole Christian Church on earth, and keeps it with Jesus Christ in the one true faith.
L Holy Spirit, all-seeing Counselor and fountain of all spiritual gifts,
stand by us in the weakness of our sinful flesh. Grant us a right
understanding of the truths that Jesus taught. Give us strength to
endure with patience whatever afflictions God may send into our lives. Help us, intercede for us, train us that we may pray to the Father
with boldness and confidence. Preserve us by the power of your Word
in our most holy faith as members of the Church, the body of Jesus, where there is forgiveness for all.
11
C In this Christian Church he daily and fully forgives all sins to me
and all believers.
L Holy Spirit, highest comfort in every need, in these gray and last days
of the world, strengthen our feeble hands, steady our weak knees, encourage our fearful hearts. Remind us of your Word and promises:
“Be strong; do not fear. Your Lord will come again. He will come to
save you.” And in your final, mighty, creative act, O Holy Spirit, raise up our bodies so that we, together with all the saints, may lift up
our heads and with glorified eyes see our Savior drawing near.
C On the Last Day he will raise me and all the dead and give eternal
life to me and all believers in Christ. This is most certainly true.
L On this day we also recognize the work of your servants Jim
Hussman and Lori Miller who spent many years laboring in your vineyard, teaching the children about the way to heaven. All thanks
and praise to you, with Father and the Son, for the work you
accomplished through them.
C Continue to bless and protect them. Allow us all, your holy people,
to always honor those whom you have called to serve us with the Gospel. Amen.
Special prayers may follow.
LORD’S PRAYER
C Our Father, who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever and ever. Amen.
12
THE BLESSING
L The Lord bless you and keep you.
The Lord make his face shine on you and be gracious to you.
The Lord look on you with favor and give you peace.
C Amen.
CHILDREN’S ANTHEM SEND O LORD, YOUR HOLY SPIRIT
1) Send, O Lord, your Holy Spirit on your servants now, we pray.
They have been your faithful shepherds leading lambs to your each day. Your pure teaching to proclaim
to adore your holy name, And to feed your lambs, dear Savior has been their aim and sole endeavor.
2) You, O Lord, yourself have called them for your precious lambs to care; But to prosper in their calling,
they the Spirit's gifts have shared. You granted wisdom from above; You have filled their hearts with love, In their weakness, you were near them.
In their prayers, Lord, you have heard them. 3) Dear, Lord Jesus, they have nourished
our dear children with Your Word, In constant love they served you, And in heav'n their songs were heard.
Boundless blessings, Lord, bestow
On your servants here below Till by grace to them is given Their reward, the crown of heaven.

graduate, Jacob Bohlmann, through the Assignment Committee from
MLC to teach grades 6-8 for one year. We continue to pursue one more
teacher for our lower grades.
NEW HYMNALS: In the back church there is a display about our new
hymnals. We need special gifts to replace our older hymnals, so we will collect gifts though the end of July. Place your gift in the box next to the
display. In addition to new hymnals, we will purchase new altar books,
organist books, psalters, and hymnal software. The cost of a new hymnal is $24. If you wish to buy a hymnal for personal use, please use the sign-
up sheet as well. The total cost for the project is around $9,000.
GRADUATES: Any member of St. Paul’s that is graduating from 8th grade, high school, tech school, college or beyond please call the school
office with that information. St. Paul’s Graduation service is set for May
30th at 9:00 am.
FAMILY FUN NIGHT — You are invited for a night of fellowship and
fun on Wednesday, June 16, from 6pm-8pm at our school campus. We
will have burgers, hot dogs, chips and ice cream. Come and play!
15
ALMOST THERE — We only have one month remaining of our current budget cycle. We are so close to hitting our goal of $520,000 of
normal offerings. As the summer months are when are attendance is
down, please consider using our online giving so that we can reach our
goal!
SPECIAL VOTERS MEETING — On Sunday, June 13, after worship
our congregation will meet for a special meeting to pass our budget for 2021-2022. Our budget is the monies the council is requesting to carry
out the ministry of the church. This year our budget will look a little
different. We are adding income and expenses that were normally taken care of by the school board as well as reformatting so that the budget is
easier to understand. Our church president will be making a presentation
about this.
CHURCH CLEANING — Volunteers are needed to clean our church
after our weekend services. This is the regular maintenance of the
building, keeping everything clean and ready every week. If you are willing, please sign up on the sheet on the communication center or talk
with a pastor.
HELP WANTED — We are looking to hire a cook to work in our school kitchen. Our current cook, Kelli Hackett, will be leaving at the
end of the year to work in the family business. Please contact the office if
interested.
