Executive Summary

In Bangladesh, garment is one of major sector which contribute to the national economy. The performance of the readymade garment (RMG) sector has been one of the most notable success stories of the Bangladesh economy over the last two decades. Nearly two million women workers were directly and more than ten million people were indirectly associated with this industry. Over the past twenty years, the number of manufacturing industries grew from 180 to over 4500. On the average this sector alone fetches over 79% of the total export earnings of the country (BGMEA, 2015). Today, the RMG export sector consists of multibillion dollar manufacturing and export industries in the country. The overall impact of the readymade garment export is certainly one of the most significant social and economic developments in contemporary Bangladesh. Because the economy of Bangladesh largely depends on the RMG sector, in short, this sector is still considered as the lifeline of the Bangladesh`s economy and plays an indispensable role for the social stability of the country.

By this report we found that more 9% garments in Bangladesh is very good situation for worker’s health & safety issues & about 38% garments is good categories. Neither good nor bad is 35% . But they can easily upgrade them in good categories by little correction action & also they are trying to do that. About 9% is bad & they are facing some problem from the management level. The owner of that factories are not too much interested to continue the business for the long time & so that’s why they are not interested for investment . 9% factories are very bad. Actually they are not for business. They just work for pick season & grab the money from sub contract. They also not interested to maintain the compliance policy as well as worker’s health & safety issue.

The factories of DEPZ area is the average in better situation comparative to others areas factories. Then the sequence is like Dhaka city, Gazipur, Savar & Narayangong. The factories of Narayangong have to improve a lot for achieving good sategory.

Conclusion:

In the research reports there has not a same condition of the garments as well as safety. In different places situation is totally changed. We are dividing into 5 areas garments factory for better understanding. We are talking with workers and factory management as well as visual inspection of us.

According to this report the factories are located in DEPZ area is better position & the factories of Narayangonj is the Worst for worker’s health & safety issue. And total 10 % factories are very good. Maximum factories are Good position & if they can improve a little they can go to the very good situation & that is the big positive hope for this sector. The Factories are in neither good nor Bad & Bad categories also trying to improve their situation by corrective action.
