Our ProgramKey to Your Success
Learning in ContextExecutives in particular must understand the big picture. That is why the Executive M.B.L.-HSG focuses on practical solutions to real world business problems and not on abstract legal theories. Together, candidates and speakers tackle questions of business law, taking into account the relevant legal, economic, historical, social and cultural framework. Our presence in the leading world economies of Europe, America and Asia provides candidates with relevant global perspectives.
Classroom Studies: The Coaching SystemThe core topics of European and international business law are taught in nine attendance modules. Discussion with international experts and among candidates themselves is a key element in the learning process, as is the chairpersons’ model. Candidates are in constant contact with the chairpersons throughout each module, which helps to ensure the timeliness and practical relevance.Case studies, individual course work and team efforts are essential parts of each module. This helps to ensure that candidates can directly apply their new knowledge in their everyday work. Every module is completed with an exam, the form of which alternates between written and oral and individual and group.Negotiating skills and strategies are essential, not just for lawyers but for executives as well. For this reason, the University of St. Gallen has partnered with Harvard Law School. In a fee-based module, you will acquire the skills needed to analyze, prepare and conduct negotia-tions based on the Harvard concept of “Getting to Yes.”
Self-Studies: Preparing for the ModulesCandidates prepare for the modules using an online and I-Pad compatible learning platform. This guarantees that they can complete essential parts of their training at their own pace, from anywhere in the world. For self-study, all relevant documentation is supplied in advance. We provide mentoring and monitor candi-dates’ progress as they work through the content. Before starting a new module, candidates may complete a writing assignment in the form of a brief, a summary, or a case solution; or they may write a critique of a piece of literature, a decision, or a judgment.
Diploma ThesisIn their diploma theses, candidates analyze a current problem of European or international business law according to academic standards. Topics are proposed by the faculty, or candidates can suggest one. The work is supervised by a member of the faculty. The thesis demonstrates that the candidate has sufficient knowl-edge of European and international business law to independently develop sound, comprehensive solutions to practical problems.
Your Effort. Your SuccessOnce you have successfully passed six modules, and your thesis has been accepted, you are awarded the title of “Executive Master of European and International Business Law E.M.B.L.-HSG.” This is an internationally respected degree that also gives graduates access to the unique alumni networks of the Executive M.B.L.-HSG and the University of St.Gallen.

Public affairs is one of the key enablers –
through lobbying and advocacy – of
successful corporate operations.
Depending on how regulated a given indus-
try is or how much public trust there is in
that sector, it can have a multi-billion dollar
impact on the bottom line. Moreover, public
affairs can also contribute to additional
profits and business success via securing
funding, preferential tax treatment or simply
by fending off harmful regulation.
This dynamic and highly interactive 6-day
module aims to provide a 360° overview,
both on a theoretical and practical level, as
well as a corporate perspective of effective
advocacy across the EU, the US and beyond.

NYU’s International Tax Program is unique
in the world, and the benefit will be yours.
You will acquire special knowledge of
international tax law and the different tax
jurisdictions multinational enterprises are
confronted with. In many situations a
cross-border investment will lead to
double taxation. In this course you will
learn about the domestic and international
tax law rules of the United States -

Unique Networks
Alumni InsightLic.iur. Benno Casutt, attorney-at-law, Regional Compli-ance Officer Asia Pacific at Zurich Insurance and E.M.B.L.-HSG alumnus of the year 2010/2011, shares his experiences about the program:
“The E.M.B.L.-HSG clearly broadened my horizon for various aspects of the international business law on a truly global scale.
After the successful completion of the program, I felt the desire to extend my exposure to international markets and so my company relocated me to our regional office in Hong Kong – I am convinced that the successful completion of the EMBL helped me tremendously in achieving this change.
Due to my modules in both Japan and Shanghai, I was able to easily connect with my teams in those cities – and immediately earned their respect for attending classes at their famous universities.
But what really matters and what will last much longer than all the legal and economic knowledge gathered throughout the 18 months, are the friendships and connections I was able to establish and that is why I am so thankful for this great experience.”
The Executive M.B.L.-HSG, because …
… the Alumni Association is a steadily growing inter national network which not only
establishes friendships, but also professional con tacts and cooperations.
