WELCOME TO THE CARLISLE TRUCK NATIONALS

From the EVENT MANAGER

Welcome to the 25th Anniversary of the Carlisle Truck Nationals!

For more than a quarter of a century truck enthusiasts like you have been filling the Carlisle Fairgrounds with trucks and having a grand time of it! You’ve been showing big rigs, four-by-fours, classics, minis and everything in between – making

this one of the biggest and best truck events in the country. This year is expected to be every bit as grand. We are hosting some

of the coolest truck clubs in the country this weekend. You will find they represent all makes, brands, models and interests. Look for gatherings around the grounds ranging from the enthusiasm of the SYTY guys in Building Y to Vanarama in the Pavlilion. If you can see over MoparX and Full Size Chevy, you’ll see Titan Talk, OBS Addicts and more on the North field. Carlisle Truck Nationals doesn’t disappoint with gatherings of domestics to imports, off road to custom, antiques to vans and equipment haulers to car haulers.

Welcoming all the show vehicles and attendees this weekend you will find the light truck and trucking industry represented on our manufac-turers midway and vending areas. Be sure to spend some time perusing these aisles for parts, products, information and perhaps a career in the trucking industry. The midway features dyno testing, exhaust installs, wheels, tires, lift kits and manufacturer displays.

We are pleased to open this year’s show with “Friday Night at the Fairgrounds” as we present monster trucks, freestyle motocross and a live country music show. More monster trucks and FMX action will share the Saturday schedule with burnouts, a judged truck show, Phantom Entertainment’s Fun Zone and more!

Thank you for making the Carlisle Truck Nationals your truck destina-tion for more than a quarter century.

Enjoy the show!

SPECIAL DISPLAYS

SyTys @ Carlisle celebrating the 25th anniv. of the sycloneLOCATED IN BUILDING YThe Syclone was launched in 1991, and like its namesake, it immediately caused a stir. The limited run of 2,998 trucks were packed with Corvette-crushing power with 280 hp and 350 ft./lbs. of torque from its turbo charged and intercooled 4.3 V6. The truck reached 60 mph in under 5 seconds and completed the quarter mile in just 13! A lowered suspension, aggressive body cladding, special wheels and tires and a well-appointed cab were all Syclone signatures for the $26,000 sticker price. There were ten special Marlboro editions which included additional upgrades along with hot red paint.

The Syclone paved the way for sport trucks such as the Typhoon, which followed in 92 and 93, the Ford Lightning, Chevy 454ss, Dakota R/T and Viper SRT10. They have developed an almost cult following and are certainly unique with their wolf-in-sheep’s-clothing demeanor.

VANARAMA VLOCATED BESIDE THE PAVILIONVanarama, the name given to the gathering of vans at this event, has been hosted by CustomVan.com since 2012. Vanners are nothing short of imaginative and creative with the custom work on their formerly stock vans. Don’t miss out on your chance to see them up close. Special thanks to Ed Beard for providing the official artwork of the 2016 Vanarama at the Carlisle Truck Nationals. (shown at right)

PENN STATE FOOTBALL EQUIPMENT CARRIERLOCATED IN THE BIG RIG SHOWFIELDHoy Transfer has been transporting the supplies for the Nittany Lions football team since the 1970s and are recognized as the oldest family-owned business in State College, PA. Kevin Briscoe, who has worked at Hoy since 1985 and has owned the company since 1996, recently retrofitted a 2011 Peterbilt tractor to haul the equipment. In true PSU (Penn State University) tradition, it is a classic look — white paint with a single blue stripe. The front bumper looks like a facemask. Blue ground lighting makes the rig pop at night. This tractor trailer is packed full of equipment like helmets, pads and crates of gear for the training staff.

RIDE FOR FREEDOM TRUCKLOCATED AT J 150 WITH CUMBERLAND TRUCK EQUIPMENTEmployees at Volvo Trucks’ New River Valley (NRV) assembly plant in Dublin, VA unveiled their 2016 Ride for Freedom truck. The annual Ride for Freedom rally salutes prisoners of war–missing in action (POW-MIA) from all wars, as well as the brave men and women who have served – and continue to serve – to protect America. This truck celebrates the 25th anniversary of the participation of NRV employees and the UAW Local 2069 Veteran Committee in the Ride for Freedom. The truck, a Volvo VNL 670 model, features custom-designed graphics that honor all branches of the U.S. military. We are pleased that this truck is scheduled to appear in the Cumberland Truck Equipment booth. Check it out at J 150 in the Big Rig Area.

guest SPOTLIGHT: KOVE MEDING

Not many 14-year-olds can say that they own a truck bought with their own money. Kove Meding returns to the Carlisle Truck Nationals for his sixth year with his father, brother, and the 302 Truck Club. Kove had been saving money that he earned working at the family restaurant, and also from birthday and Christmas gifts, to hopefully one day have enough for a truck. At age 12, he was able to split the cost of a 1996 Chevy S10 SS with his father, Rob.

The Meding family owns a

restaurant in Delaware that just so happens to be the busiest during the summer months, and the Carlisle Truck Nationals is the one occasion that the crew takes off work. Twelve-year-old Kove had been working four days a week as a dishwasher to save up the money for his Chevy S10. Three years later, Kove is still working at the restaurant to be able to one day complete his dream list of truck modifications. The list includes new wheels and tires and a headlight conversion

among other things. Before attending the Truck Nationals in 2015, Kove completed the three hour process of clay barring his truck.

2015 was the first year that the Chevy S10 was shown, and the Carlisle Fairgrounds was lucky enough to be the first host. Kove looks forward to attending the Truck Nationals for many years to come with his brother and father. Stop by the 302 Truck Club’s tent to see the S10 and say hello to the youngest showfield partici-pant at Carlisle.

In 2015, Ray topped the charts with the song “Kiss You in the Morning.” Also from his self-titled album, he’s released two more songs, “Real Men Love Jesus” and “Think a Little Less.” The former broke the top 20 on the back end of last year, while the latter is his current single that is making its move upwards on the charts.

About the Big Rig Show & ShineThe Big Rig Show & Shine is a dedicated portion of the Carlisle Truck Nationals for all things BIG. Rigs, Wreckers, Carriers, Dumps, Antiques and Heavy Trucks of all kinds are all part of this show within a show.

Judging is optional, but ALL participants must register upon arrival. Enter the show with your truck at Gate 1, park, then sign in at the Auto Trader Pavilion and pick up a goody bag.

Judging takes place Saturday 11 - 4 and winners receive trophies on Sunday (see schedule). Winners may also opt to stay for the awards parade to drive their truck in front of the Grandstand while we announce the owner’s name, details about the truck and their award category.

Special thanks to GS Grifana Car Shows of Virginia Beach for judging.

Glow ShowStick around Saturday night because when the sun goes down, the Big Rig area lights up. Walk through the Big Rig field to see some impressive light displays on the trucks. The Carlisle Events’ staff will choose the coolest lit-up rig and they will receive a trophy on Sunday.

New Equipment DisplaysKenworth of PA and Motor Truck, a multi-store dealership and service center for Kenworth truck equipment, and Cumberland Truck Equipment, a multi-store dealership and service center for Volvo Trucks, will be on-site showing the newest equipment. Look for our newest guest, Ford Commercial Trucks, on the Manufacturers Midway.

Elizabeth Truck CenterElizabeth Truck Center and its sister company Car Craft Truck Works, combined, simply known as ETC, continue to raise the bar and set new standards in the trucking industry. Popular trucks include “The Beast,” which revolutionized the way the industry looks at custom trucks. Since then ETC has gone on to further impress with a makeover of a classic 1980 A-Model Kenworth, aptly named “Bride of the Beast,” an over the top urban assault vehicle, G-UNIT, transformed from a showroom-new 2006 Peterbilt 379, the restoration and finely detailed rebuild of a vintage 1966 Peterbilt. “The Punisher” is one of the most incredible Kenworths on the road and an outrageous, off the hook, custom International ProStar, “Mayhem,” and let’s not forget “The Predator,” imitated, but never duplicated. The fun never stops at ETC and you can catch them outside the east end of Building T.

American Truck Historical SocietyThe not-for-profit American Truck Historical Society was formed in 1971 to preserve the history of trucks, the trucking industry, and its pioneers. The American Trucking Association officially recognizes the ATHS as the “duly authorized organization founded to record and develop trucking industry historical data.” Today, the ATHS has more than 21,000 members.

We are pleased to welcome several returning regional chapters from the Mid-Atlantic region. Look for them in the Pavilion area. Remember, if things go right in the world, truck fans, enthusiasts and owners of today’s trucks will be tomorrow’s members of this organization, so thank these groups for keeping this alive and sharing it at Carlisle.

Carlisle Regional CarriersThe Carlisle Carrier Showcase presents a unique opportunity for people looking for work in the local trucking industry. Carlisle is a major trucking hub with major roadways such as Interstate 81 and the PA Turnpike running right through it. And, it is home to multiple trucking companies and warehouses along with truck stops and truck-related businesses.

Stop by the Big Rig area (see map in centerfold) to see the rigs and talk with representatives of trucking companies.

OUR PARTNERSSpecial thanks to the support of our sponsors.

OFFICIAL EVENT GUIDE PARTNERIt’s no secret that American car values have been on the move over the past few years, both up and down. It pays for buyers, sellers and owners to know exactly what’s going on in the marketplace at any given time, and that information is exactly what American Car Collector magazine does best. Each issue of ACC contains more than 100 market reports on individual cars that have appeared at auction, with published sold prices highlighted by on-site evaluations that cover condition, originality and options. Not only do we tell you what a car sold for, we help you understand why. Every issue also includes in-depth profiles on cars from GM, Ford and Mopar, joined by Hot Rod, Race Car, Corvette and Truck. Whether you have one car or 20, ACC has the information that’ll keep you on top of what’s happening in the American collector-car world. Subscribe at americancarcollector.com.
