About the Radio SystemThe.following.is.an.overview.of.the.operation.of.the.Sportwerks.radio.system.and.it’s.various.functions.and.adjustments ..Since.your.Recoil.operates.on.a.radio.signal.you.control,.it’s.important.you.read.and.understand.about.all.of.these.functions.and.adjustments.before.driving .

The TransmitterSteering Wheel:.Controls.direction.(left/right).of.the.model .

Throttle Trigger:.Controls.speed.and.direction.(forward/reverse)..of.the.model .

Antenna:.Transmits.signal.to.the.model .

On/Off Switch:.Turns.the.power.on.for.transmitter.operation .

Indicator Lights:.Green.(top).light.indicates.adequate.battery.power ..Red.light.(bottom).indicates.signal.strength .

ST. Trim:.Adjusts.the.“hands.off”.direction.of.the.model .

TH. Trim:.Adjust.the.motor.speed.to.stop.at.neutral .

Steering Rate:.Adjust.the.amount.the.front.wheel.moves.when.turned..left.or.right .

ST. REV:.Reverses.the.function.of.the.steering.when.the.wheel.is.turned..left.or.right .

TH. REV:.Reverses.the.function.of.the.Speed.Control.when.pulled.back.or.pushed.forward .

Bottom Cover & Battery Tray:.Covers.and.holds.the.batteries.powering..the.transmitter .

Resetting the ESCThe.ESC.comes.factory.pre-set.and.ready.for.use ..If.for.some.reason.you.should.need.to.re-set.the.ESC,.use.the.following.instructions:Turn.on.the.transmitter.and.ESC ..Press.the.set-up.button.–.the.RED.and.GREEN.LED’s.will.come.on .Pull.the.throttle.trigger.all.the.way.back.(full.speed).and.press.the.set-up.button.once.–.only.the.GREEN.LED.will.come.on .Push.the.trigger.full.forward.(brake/re-verse).and.push.the.set-up.button.once.–.only.the.RED.LED.will.come.on .Let.the.throttle.trigger.return.to.the.neutral.(center).position.and.press.the.set-up.button.once.more.to.save.the.program.and.exit.set-up.mode.–.only.the.GREEN.LED.will.be.on .NotesA:...If.the.receiver.does.not.receive.a.

B:...While.in.program.mode.the.motor.will.not.run .

C:...If.the.set-up.button.is.not.pressed.for.20.seconds.while.in.the.pro-gram.mode,.the.ESC.will.exit.the.program.mode.and.the.data.will.be.restored.to.default.settings .

Steering RateYour.Transmitter.is.equipped.with.a.steering.rate.control.on.the.top.of.the.radio.just.above.the.steering.wheel ..This.advanced.feature,.usually.found.only.on.competition-type.radios,.allows.you.to.adjust.the.amount.the.front.tires.move.when.you.turn.the.steering.wheel ..This.is.really.helpful.when.you.are.on.slick,.as.well.as.high.traction,.surfaces ..If.your.Recoil.turns.too.sharply.and/or.spins.out.easily,.try.turning.the.steering.rate.down.by.rotating.the.knob.counterclockwise.(to.the.left) ..For.sharper.or.additional.steering,.try.turning.the.knob.clockwise.(to.the.right) ..

Setting the Gear MeshProper.gear.mesh.is.important.to.the.performance.of.your.vehicle ..If.the.mesh.it.too.loose.it.will.cause.the.spur.gear.to.fail.(strip);.if.set.too.tight.it.will.decrease.speed.and.cause.the.motor.to.overheat .

To.set.the.gear.mesh,.loosen.the.motor.screws.and.insert.a.small.piece.of.paper.between.the.two.gears .

Push.the.gears.together.and.re-tighten.the.screws ..Finally.remove.the.paper;.the.gear.should.be.able.to.rock.back.and.forth.slightly .

Changing the Spur GearIf.you're.replacing.the.spur.gear.with.one.of.a.different.size.(number.of.teeth),.you.must.first.loosen.(do.not.remove).the.two.screws.that.secure.the.motor.and.slide.it.back.slightly ..Next.remove.the.6.Phillip’s.head.screws.that.support.the.upper.deck,.followed.by.the.2.smaller.screws.that.secure.the.upper.bearing.retainer ..Then.remove.the.6.screws.that.secure.the.upper.gearbox.housing ..Lift.the.slipper/spur.gear.assembly.from.the.chassis ..

Remove.the.center.drive.cup,.and.the.4mm.locknut.from.the.slipper.shaft.as.well.as.the.remaining.slipper.parts.and.gear ..After.changing.the.spur.gear,.reassemble.and.see.section.above.for.Setting.the.Gear.Mesh ..You.also.need.to.adjust.the.slipper.setting.as.described.elsewhere .

Gearing TipsA.smaller.pinion.gear.(less.teeth).will.give.you.more.acceleration.but.less.top.speed .A.larger.pinion.gear.(more.teeth).will.give.you.higher.top.speeds.but.less.acceleration .A.larger.spur.gear.(more.teeth).will.give.you.more.acceleration.but.less.top.speed .A.smaller.spur.gear.(less.teeth).will.give.you.higher.top.speeds.but.less.acceleration .

Chassis Tuning TipsThe.Recoil.has.several.adjustments.available.to.you.for.tuning.the.performance.to.your.needs ..Although.there.are.multiple.shock.positions.and.camber.link.locations.provided,.we.have.built.this.model.with.the.best.overall.settings ..The.following.are.simple.adjustments.and.easily.maintained.settings.for.proper.operation.and.performance ..It.is.advised.when.making.any.adjustment.you.do.so.in.small.increments.and.always.check.for.other.parts.of.the.chassis.that.are.affected .

CamberCamber.is.the.angle.of.the.tires.to.the.racing.surface.when.viewed.from.the.front.or.rear.of.the.vehicle ..Negative.camber.means.the.wheel.leans.inward.and.with.positive.camber.the.wheel.leans.outward .

The.best.setting.range.is.between.0.and.1.degrees.negative.camber ..More.negative.camber.in.the.front.will.result.in.a.more.aggressive.feel,.increasing.steering.on.corner.entry ..More.negative.camber.in.the.rear.will.decrease.side.bite.and.increase.steering ..Camber.can.be.adjusted.by.lengthening.or.shortening.the.threaded.turnbuckles ..Many.dealers.sell.inexpensive.adjustment.tools.for.measuring.camber .

Toe-In/OutToe-in.(negative.toe).and.toe-out.(positive.toe).refers.to.the.angle.of.the..tires.as.viewed.from.the.top.of.the.vehicle ..Toe-in.will.provide.more.stability.under.acceleration.but.decreases.steering.on.corner.entry ..Toe.out.will.improve.steering.into.corners.but.not.be.as.stable.at.speed ..The.factory.setting.is.1.degree.out ..Toe.can.be.is.adjusted.by.lengthening.or.shortening.the.threaded.steering.links .

Service and Maintenance

CleaningPerformance.can.be.hindered.if.dirt.gets.in.any.of.the.moving.suspension.parts ..Use.compressed.air.or.a.soft.paintbrush.or.toothbrush.to.remove.dust.and.dirt ..Avoid.using.solvents.or.chemicals,.as.they.can.actually.wash.dirt.into.the.bearings.or.moving.parts.as.well.as.cause.damage.to.the.electronics ..

Motor MaintenanceAfter.about.15.runs,.the.motor.should.be.cleaned.and.brushes.inspected.for.wear ..Proper.maintenance.will.not.only.increase.motor.life,.it.will.also.improve.performance .

You.will.first.need.to.remove.the.motor.from.the.chassis ..Disconnect.the.bullet.connecters.from.the.ESC,.then.remove.the.2.motor.retaining.screws.and.remove.the.pinion.gear .

Remove.the.brush.springs.and.brushes ..Inspect.the.brushes;.if.severely.worn.or.discolored.they.should.be.replaced .

Spray.the.motor.thoroughly.with.a.high.quality.cleaner.like.DYN5500.Magnum.Force.Cleaner .

Before.re-installing,.oil.each.motor.bearing.with.a.drop.of.quality..bearing.lubricant .

ShocksThe.shocks.will.need.to.be.rebuilt.periodically.when.the.fluid.gets..low.or.dirty .

Remove.the.shocks.from.the.vehicle,.unscrew.the.aluminum.cap,.dump..the.fluid.and.clean.thoroughly .

Refill.with.silicone.shock.fluid.to.the.top.of.the.body.(the.factory.setup.is..25.weight.oil) .

Slowly.move.the.piston.up.and.down.to.remove.air.bubbles .

Move.the.piston.to.the.midway.point.of.the.body.and.install.the.cap .

Tighten.the.cap.slowly.letting.excess.oil.bleed.off .

When.properly.filled.the.piston.can.be.pushed.and.should.rebound..about.3/8" .
