Consumers and Distance Learning

• Online use of social technologies are now at the forefront of many companies. In the past companies used marketing specialist and their own ideas of what people wanted but today the consumer has changed their roles from a passive receiver of information to an active participant. The term “customercentric” describes this new phenomenon.

• “This groundswell of people using technologies to get the things they need form one another, rather than from companies, is now tiling the balance of power from company to consumer.” Pg 36(Bernoff and Li, 2008)
