“Rules of Netiquette”

• Rule 1: We are all humans, even on the internet. This statement means that it is not nice to hurt other people feelings on the internet. Key points to remember: when typing a whole message, never type it in all caps because this means that you are “yelling”. Also, never write/post anything that you wouldn’t say to your reader’s face.

• Rule 2: Follow the same rules online that you would in real life. This statement means that people should be ethical and not jump to conclusions. Key points to remember: listen to what others have to say. You can acquire new ideas/information from other people.

• Rule 3: Remember where you are when you are online. This statement means that you should have an open mind when you are online. Key points to remember: never make negative constructivism, but positive ones. Also, when in a chatroom/forum read other people comments first before posting.

• Rule 4: Have respect for others when you are online. This statement means that you should respect other people opinions and don’t expect them to agree with you. Key points to remember: try not to ask stupid questions on discussion groups, if it’s something that can be answered by searching the net, don’t post it. Also, try to use private email when posting to discussion groups.
