Advert and Digipak plan 1

By Philip Hargrave

DIGIPAK

For the Digipak I was thinking of having a hand on fire in every box other than the CD square where it would just be fire due to it being the less seen part of the pack.

I’m planning on basing the album around pain and loss. The most common representation of pain would be fire, this is due to it being commonly be represented with hurting/scaring. The hands were due to the stereotypical view if someone is burning they reach out with their hand for help so I wanted to show that the people feeling the pain are close to giving up and want help. Some songs were to be based around the person fighting the pain so having a fist would be a good representation of this and I should also link a couple of song names in with the images.

Using the sharpen and blue tool you can blend the fire into the hand to a point where it looks realistic. The burn tool and smudge tool also help with this.

Background was simple to decide. I thought about having smoke in the background but didn’t want to distract from the image. A plain black background would fit well with the image not conflicting with the colours.

I plan on creating this effect of the fire in the hand by using photoshop. I already know how to do this due to me doing it before. It involves a much easier way to do it than the tutorial provided using the magic wand and stamp tool and position it wisely to make it look real.

Background effects was one thing I considered as on multiple digipaks a scene is depicted on it. However, it would be a struggle to create it on photoshop and might distract from the emotions I want to show.

However it could also mean I can do various movements and positions to create the theme of pain through burning fire.

I do need to consider how big the flames will be when taking pictures of it and won’t be to size compared the picture of the person. Although there is ways in which I can have multiple versions of the image over the person but blending would be a task I would take up time than to do the simple but effective idea.

I thought of having the full person in the picture to present the pain through expressions on faces and to show more movement. However this will mean that editing it on photoshop would become a lengthy task.

Control over the pain and anger could be presented in a way like the image above. This was an idea that I was thinking of using but I thought it would strive to far from what I wanted.
