Teamworking, problem solving and doing REAL maths

IntroductionSolving cryptography problems

generally starts with an idea. Testing out the idea, revising

plans and trying other techniques all encourages determination and adds to

the sense of elation when the message is cracked!

Perform frequency analysis to compare your message with the English

language. Use digraphs and percentages for a real purpose!

Traditionally this activity provides stimulation to the

able, ever so slightly geeky and those with Autistic Spectrum

Disorders.

This will give you an opportunity to engage those hard to

stimulate students within the whole class framework.

STUDENTS WILLDevelop a problem solving strategy that they improve and tweak in order to break different codes and ciphers.

Some may wish to enter the National Challenge in September!

Teamworking, problem solving and doing REAL maths

The historical journey includesAncient Greeks, Romans,

Tudors, Victorians, WW1 and 2.

On this course you will:

Learn all you need to know to run a session in your school!

• familiarise yourself with different codes and ciphers and how to break them!

• take a historical journey learning about different ciphers

• use free deciphering tools• experience frustration and elation

in the same way that your students will!!!
