Letter From The Archon Brothers, As the Archon of Delta Eta, I am pleased to report that the chapter is in great condi- tion as we are rounding the turn into 2011. This Fall se- mester has been an excel- lent one for our chapter, and the morale and outlook is better than ever. As you will discover throughout this newsletter- we have remained a soundly operating organization in our campus community. We are excited about our Asso- ciate Member Class (Xi Zeta) and about the future of our chapter in general. The alumni news- letter is intended to keep alumni and active relations frequent; so here is some insight as to what we have been doing here in Morehead: We maintained the honor of highest GPA in the Spring Semester, making it 6 consecutive semesters that we have been awarded with that distinction. In the Spring, we were recognized as the Greek Chapter of the Year, the most prestigious award on our campus. Our fund- raising efforts for Push America in the past few years have placed us in the top 15 nationally in total fundraising, as we have al- ready raised nearly $4500 this year. We are arguably the most involved organiza- tion throughout our campus community, with brothers being active in roles such as IFC president, IFC reporter, SGA, basketball team, and tennis team. The finances of the chapter are better than they have ever been, in terms of accounts receiv- able and outstanding debt. It’s an exciting time to be a Pi Kapp at MSU. I am proud and confident in reporting that we are the best on this campus, and that we are constantly growing stronger. Letter From The Archon Brothers, As the Archon of Delta Eta, I am pleased to report that the chapter is in great condi-tion as we are rounding the turn into 2011. This Fall se-mester has been an excel-lent one for our chapter, and the morale and outlook is better than ever. As you will discover throughout this newsletter-we have remained a soundly operating organization in our campus community. We are excited about our Asso-ciate Member Class (Xi Zeta) and about the future of our chapter in general.

The alumni news-letter is intended to keep alumni and active relations frequent; so here is some insight as to what we have been doing here in Morehead: We maintained the honor of highest GPA in the Spring Semester, making it 6 consecutive

semesters that we have been awarded with that

distinction. In the Spring, we were recognized as the Greek Chapter of the Year, the most prestigious award on our campus. Our fund-raising efforts for Push America in the past few years have placed us in the top 15 nationally in total fundraising, as we have al-

ready raised nearly $4500 this year. We are arguably the most involved organiza-tion throughout our campus community, with brothers being active in roles such as IFC president, IFC reporter, SGA, basketball team, and tennis team. The finances of the chapter are better than they have ever been, in terms of accounts receiv-able and outstanding debt. It’s an exciting time to be a Pi Kapp at MSU. I am proud and confident in reporting that we are the best on this campus, and that we are constantly growing stronger.

Journey of Hope Pi Kappa Phi recently hosted the Journey of Hope team this past August. The cyclist team included over 30 young men and alums from many different Pi Kappa Phi Chapters. The team was hosted by Morehead State University in Cartmell Hall. The Delta Eta Chapter provided lunch to the cyclists at CiCi’s where Pi Kappa Phi’s gathering together and discussed many different experi-ences they had made along the way. A friendship visit was held at Horizon Vil-lage, our partnership organization. The team interacted with Horizon Village members and played many outdoor games. PUSH AMERICA

No Boundaries Week 2010 was held Sep-tember 13-17th. The philanthropy week was a new challenge for the Delta Eta chapter as there were many new events hosted. The Date Auction was held Monday at 5:00p.m. Bids were placed on each Pi Kapp from members of several sororities on cam-pus, as well as individuals not affiliated with Greek Life. The bid-placers at the Date Auction donated over $700 to Push Amer-ica.

A Space and Laser Light Show was hosted at the Star Theater in the Space Sci-ence Center. We invited the local Special Olympics chapter of Rowan County as well as the lovely ladies who bought a Delta Eta Pi Kapp at the Date Auction to attend this event on Tuesday night at 6:00p.m. This event was free for those in attendance.

Wednesday was the 11th Annual Miss Push America Pageant, held in Button Auditorium at 6:00p.m. There were 15 par-ticipants repre-s e n t i n g C h i Omega, Delta Gamma, Gamma Phi Beta, Kappa Delta, Delta Zeta, Sigma Gamma Rho and Sigma Phi Epsilon. Over the course of the evening, each participant participated in an interview category, a talent category and a formal wear category. One of the judges for the pageant, Daniel Noltemeyer, also spoke on behalf of Best Buddies Interna-tional. This is an organization started this year at Morehead State University, pairing college students with a disabled person from the community – much like Big Brother/Big Sister. A lot of Delta Eta chap-ter members are also members of this new organization. Our special guest singer, Holly Forbes, sang three songs for us this year. The crowd favorite this year was Brooke Lyons of Gamma Phi Beta. The third runner-up this year was Tracie Prickett of Delta Gamma – who was also voted Best Poise Question winner. The sec-ond runner-up was Kalle Cole of Chi Omega, who also won Best Interview. The first runner-up was Cayce Crowder of Chi Omega. The 2010 Miss Push America Pag-

eant winner, Cara Hall, also won best tal-ent. Cara represented the ladies of Gamma Phi Beta, whom helped tremendously with our philanthropy week this year.

Thursday we held Zumba for Peo-ple with Disabilities in Button Drill Room at 6:00p.m. with approximately 30 girls in at-tendance. Mikka Sowards and Grace Bent-ley, both members of Delta Zeta, were kind enough to donate their time and effort to instruct the Zumba session.

We ended the week on Friday with our most successful event – Pathways Prom. This event was co-sponsored by Gamma Phi Beta. These ladies were crucial to the success of this event. They helped with hair and make-up for the female resi-dents, escorted male residents into prom, helped decorate ADUC, and donated sev-eral hundred dollars for catered food through Aramark. Along with all these events, we had the Scaffold Sit all week long, as well as Penny Wars which was won by Chi Omega. All-in-all, the Delta Eta Chapter raised $3,500 for Push America. As of the publication of this newsletter, the Delta Eta chapter is ranked 8th in the nation for raising the most money for Push America.

RECENT AWARDS AND ACCOMPLISHMENTS

Delta Eta has received numerous awards for excellence over the past two semesters. The hard work of our active brothers has paid off and we are extremely proud to in-form our alumni of our achievements.

Academics: Delta Eta has been ranked #1 in grades among Morehead State fraternities over the past six consecutive semesters. Adding to our high level of academic achievement, over the past semester we were ranked third on campus among all Greek organiza-tions including sororities. We achieved a 3.2 overall chapter GPA last spring and we look to improve even more in the future.

Greek Awards: At the end of Spring 2010, Delta Eta won every award given to male organizations at the annual Greek Awards presentation. These awards included Chapter of the Year, Philanthropy of the Year (Push America), and Community Service of the Year (Horizon Village).

TEXT: PUSH241 to 50555 to donate $5 to Push America today! Another exciting program Delta Eta Chapter has been selected to participate in is a text-giving campaign for Push America. This is a pilot program and only a few elite chapters have been selected to take part. Delta Eta’s campaign is now live and running and if you would like to donate you can text message PUSH241 to 50555 and $ 5.00 do-nation will be applied to your cell phone bill and added to the Delta Eta Fundraising total for Push America. Push America helps to enhance the quality of life for people with disabilities all over the country each day. We would love your sup-port, and what better way to give back than through a donation to Push America. With your help we can make a difference.

FROM THE HISTORIAN Brothers of Delta Eta, I am pleased to have completed our second alumni news-letter of 2010. My name is Evan Boyd and I am the Histo-rian of Delta Eta. I pledged Fall of 2009 and I am a Sopho-more Mathematics major from Russell, KY. The past few months have been an exciting time for Delta Eta and the chapter looks to continue its successes in 2010. Delta Eta is working hard to maintain our high level of achievement in every aspect of fraternal life. Our success in academics, intramurals, campus involvement, and re-cruitment is unparalleled among other Greek Organizations on campus. Your support is greatly appreciated and we thank you all. In order to improve future editions of this newsletter, please feel free to inform the chapter of your own personal successes and happenings. We will be look-ing to add an alumni spotlight section, as well as alumni updates to keep everyone informed about marriages, births, and other wonderful life events taking place within the greater brotherhood of Delta Eta. Please send any news, stories, or accom-plishments to my email address ([email protected]), and I will be sure to publish them in the next newsletter, which you should expect to receive in the next Spring semester. Thanks again for all your support. I hope this newsletter finds you all well. Fraternally Yours, Evan Boyd - ΔΗ 504 Historian

XI ZETA PLEDGE CLASS

This Fall the Delta Eta chapter of Pi Kappa Phi has gained 12 new associate members. They are: Kevin Hamilton from Cincinnati, OH, Austin Lay from Bellevue, KY, Kyle Roth from San Luis Obispo, CA, Tyler Fraser from Evansville, IN, Josh Goble from Inez, KY, Brad Stump from Owings-ville, KY, Chris Corbin from Flemingsburg, KY, Josh Brett from Bellevue, KY, James Goble from Inez, KY, Mark McGuire from Erlanger, KY, Dan Clemons from West Jef-ferson, OH, and Ryan Farthing from Win-chester, KY. We as a chapter believe these men obtain the qualities that we look for in recruiting students with C.L.A.S.S. We also want to extend the invitation for any alumni to come to this semesters initiation of the associate members.

PATHWAYS PROM

On Friday September 17, 2010, the gen-tlemen of Pi Kappa Phi, along with the la-dies of Gamma Phi Beta, hosted a “Pathways Prom” for the residents from the surrounding Pathways assisted living homes. The prom was held in a reserved room of the Adron Doran University Center on Morehead State University’s campus. There were approximately 75-100 residents in attendance from surrounding areas such as Ashland, Louisa, and Morehead. The prom included a dinner from Aramark ca-tering. This was made possible due to the generosity portrayed by parents of the resi-dents and the ladies of Gamma Phi Beta. The favorite song of the night was undoubt-edly Achy Breaky Heart by Billy Ray Cyrus. We also had a prom king and queen: Prom king was Elmer Mills from Louisa and the prom queen was Debbie Burton from Hori-zon Village in Morehead. This truly was a special night and everyone who attended had a wonderful time.

NOTE FROM THE CHAPLAIN

This semester we have inventoried our initiation equipment and have come to the conclusion that a sim-ple trip to the dry cleaner is no longer going to cut it for most of our things. Most of the robes are tattered, torn, and dirty (or caked with candle wax). Getting new equipment is a necessity for our rituals be look profes-sional and appropriate. However, at the moment our chapter is unable to afford the new robes so we would like to reach out to all of our alumni brothers and ask for dona-tions. The price for a complete set is $1,375 and we are hopeful that it will be possible to raise this amount so that our ritual of initia-tion can remain the wonderful ceremony that we all remember it as. Thank you for the donations that some have already given. On another note, last spring our chapter traveled to UK and initiated over 40 new members to Pi Kappa Phi! Their chapter is growing and doing well thus far. Thanks For Your Support,

Channing Knipp - ΔΗ 500 Chaplain

Donations may be sent to our chap-ter mailing address: 150 University Blvd P.O. Box 1247 Morehead, KY 40351-1684.

HOMECOMING 2010! Delta Eta will be having homecoming events on the weekend of October 20th, 2010. If you’re not informed, the University is now allowing tailgating to occur for the home football games this year! Pi Kappa Phi has rented out a spot in the Eagle Rally Zone for the entire season and will be purchasing an additional lot for the game on the 30th as Morehead State Eagles take on the Jacksonville Dolphins a 2:00 pm. Events will follow after the game.
