PRINCIPAL’S REPORT Christmas Parade

It was fantastic to see so many Lucknow PS families out on the weekend, not only on the Lucknow

float but also involved in many other community groups.

We would like to thank Pelz Haulage and Josh Hutton for supplying the truck, Kennedy’s Trailers for the

trailer and the Grade One staff for decorating it. It was really nice to see so many smiling faces and

see so many people getting into the festive spirit.

Graduation

It was with very mixed emotions that we recognised our graduation class of year 6 students for 2019.

They are an absolutely fabulous group of kids and each teacher spoke about how difficult it was to

decide on our awardees. We have seen them grow from cute little preppies to mature young men and

women that believe in themselves and have achieved some great things already.

We would like to thank them all and wish them all the very best of luck for the future. We look forward

to hearing about their future achievements.

The award recipients were:

Performing Arts Award: Karlee Richards

Leadership Award: Grace Ingram

Visual Arts Award: Thomas Miles

Academic award: Mary Poynton

Citizenship Award: Noah Goodman

Sportsmanship: Max Neate

The Alfred Howitt Scholarships went to: Talia Hare and Ethan Gallasch

End of Year

By the time you read this we will have had our final assembly for the year where we announced

academic growth and achievement awards. We also announced student leaders for 2020 and

recognised staff that will not be with us in 2020. Please find the details of these listed below.

I would like to wish all Lucknow PS families and the community best wishes for the holidays. Please

refer below for office hours next year and please note that we have two pupil free days to start the

year – so all students will begin on Thursday the 30th of January.

Thank you all very much for your support throughout the year. The staff at Lucknow appreciate the

effort students have put into their learning and the support and encouragement that families provide.

Attendance Awards

At our assembly this morning we recognised our students with the most outstanding attendance. There

were 17 students that achieved 99% attendance or better for 2019.

In the past our benchmark for this award was lower but as our overall attendance improves, so too

does the standard to achieve this award.

We thank all of the parents and carers for their contribution to have their kids attend so well in 2019.

Building Works

Over the holiday period we will have a variety or tradespeople completing works to improve our school

facilities. The major work will be in the north and south wings (Prep and Grade1/2) where the carpets

will be replaced and also some internal walls will be removed from the Prep rooms.

We look forward to our seeing our revitalised learning spaces.

Farewell

We would like to wish the following staff all the best for their future as they leave Lucknow PS at the

end of 2020:

Lachlan Alexander, who will be taking up a teaching position at Benalla P-12 College.

Alexandra Falk who is taking up a position at Lakes Entrance Secondary College.

Emma Stone will be teaching at Romsey Primary School next year.

Dylan Holden will be teaching at Malmsbury Primary School.

Glenys Downe is taking up a role at Toorloo Arm Primary School for 2020.

Kelly Merante will be teaching at Nicholson Primary.

I would like to thank them all for their contributions to LPS and acknowledge their contribution to

Lucknow PS.

Finally, I would also like to thank

and farewell Alli Hopkins, who after

many years of service at Lucknow

Primary School will be working at

the Regional office as an Education

Improvement Leader.

Alli will be impossible to replace in

all she has contributed over her

time at LPS.

From teacher, to team leader, to

Assistant Principal to Acting

Principal – she has done it all.

Thanks for everything!

CHRISTMAS PARADE

On Saturday 65 students and 7 staff members from Lucknow PS attended the Bairnsdale Christmas

Parade.

The theme of ‘a Country Christmas’ saw many students dressed in jeans, check shirts and hats with a

splash of Christmas.

This was the first year we had the use of a truck and we all enjoyed our time cruising on the back,

waving and wishing everyone a Merry Christmas.

We would like to thank Pelz Haulage and The Hutton family for the use of their truck and driving on the

day and Kennedy’s Trailers for letting us borrow their trailer.

Also thank you to Bairnsdale Stockfeed for lending us the 30 hay bales that decorated the truck and we

sat on. Thanks to the families who attended. It was a fabulous atmosphere with beautiful weather and

very well behaved children.

FUN SWIMMING CARNIVAL

Congratulations to all grade 3-6

children who participated in the fun

swimming carnival on Monday the

16th of December at the Bairnsdale

Outdoor Pool.

The children’s enthusiasm, house

spirit and sporting attitude were

fantastic. The house dance offs were

definitely a highlight of the day and

certainly helped everyone

thoroughly enjoy the day, including

teachers and parents.

We need to thank lots of wonderful people for assisting on the day to make things run as smoothly as

they did. A special thankyou to all the grade 3-6 teachers and teacher aides and 2019 House Captains

who assisted with ensuring that all children got to their events.

Thank you to Cynara Adams, Emily Forbes and Camel Thompson for doing an amazing job of

marshalling all children for events.

Thank you to Kelly Merante, Chen Pearson and Emma Stone for being our finish line judges. You

certainly had some tricky calls to make.

Thank you to Jean Evans and Russell Kells who kept a tally of house points for the day.

A huge thankyou to all parents, grandparents and friends who came to the pool on Monday to watch

children participate in events and provide the necessary encouragement and support to get children

across the pool.

The final house tally at the end of the Fun Swimming Carnival were as follows -:

Red Ravens – 1065

Black Penguins – 995

Purple Pelicans – 995

Blue Kookaburras – 945

Green Lorikeets – 835

Congratulations to the Red

Ravens who will now be

placed on the swimming

trophy as winners of the fun

swimming carnival for 2019.

We look forward to a fun

filled carnival at the end of

next year and I will try and

put in an early order for fine

weather.

BREAKFAST CLUB

Special thanks to Jax Bakery for their donation of bread each week and a very special thank you to

Thomas Caire for his support and dedication each week with setting up the tables and breakfast

supplies. His extraordinary announcements that include the menu make our mouths water.

Thank you to all students who have helped throughout the year and to all those who support this

program. We look forward to seeing all your happy faces again next year at breakfast Club.

PARENTS AND FRIENDS

A big thank you to everyone who has helped out the Parents and Friends Club for 2019. We appreciate

all the helpers for the stalls, disco and everything else. We can not do fundraisers for the school

without you.

Thank you to the lovely ladies who every Friday morning cut up the fruit for all the students.

Thank you to the ladies who prepared the food for the Grade 6 Graduation last night.

Thanks to Mark from Bairnsdale Trophy Shop for getting the Grade 6 presents done.

Next year we are aiming to raise money for more ‘sheltered’ areas of play like the new Bus Shelter.

FRIDAY FUN SINGERS

Bairnsdale Community Carols

Sunday 22nd December at 7pm

Tulaba Reserve, Howitt Avenue. Eastwood.

It is with great excitement we share that the East Gippsland Symphonia and East Gippsland Brass Band

have invited our Friday Fun Singers to perform three songs at the Bairnsdale Community Carols. We

will be performing The Little Drummer Boy, Jingle Bells and Rudolf the Red Nose Reindeer. Our

performance will take place in the middle of the program, just before a special visitor is due to arrive.

We hope to see lots of Friday Fun Singers there. Singers may sit with their families until we are

announced. Once we are called, performers are asked to join with Mrs Byrne in front of the outdoor

stage wearing their Christmas best and their biggest smiles.

Please note, staff will not be supervising this event. All performing students must be under the direct

supervision of their own parents.

Kind Regards,

Sharon Byrne
