DECEMBER 13, 2020 THE THIRD SUNDAY OF ADVENT

  • Deacon/Priest: May almighty God have mercy on us, forgive us our sins and bring us to everlasting life. All: Amen.

    Collect (Opening Prayer)

Priest: Let us pray… one God, for ever and ever.

    All: Amen.

LITURGY OF THE WORD First Reading: A reading from the Book of Prophet Isaiah (61:1-2a, 10-11)

    The spirit of the Lord God is upon me, because the Lord has anointed me;

he has sent me to bring glad tidings to the poor, to heal the brokenhearted,

to proclaim liberty to the captives and release to the prisoners,

to announce a year of favor from the Lord and a day of vindication by our God.

    I rejoice heartily in the Lord, in my God is the joy of my soul;

for he has clothed me with a robe of salvation and wrapped me in a mantle of justice,

like a bridegroom adorned with a diadem, like a bride bedecked with her jewels.

As the earth brings forth its plants, and a garden makes its growth spring up,

so will the Lord God make justice and praise spring up before all the nations.

Lector: The word of the Lord.

All: Thanks be to God. Responsorial Psalm

    All:

  • My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord; my spirit rejoices in God my Savior,

for he has looked upon his lowly servant. From this day all generations will call me blessed. R/

The Almighty has done great things for me,

and holy is his Name. He has mercy on those who fear him

    in every generation. R/

He has filled the hungry with good things, and the rich he has sent away empty.

He has come to the help of his servant Israel for he has remembered his promise of mercy. R/

Second Reading: A reading from the Second Letter of Saint Paul to the Thessalonians (5:16-24)

Brothers and sisters: Rejoice always. Pray without ceasing. In all circumstances give thanks,

for this is the will of God for you in Christ Jesus. Do not quench the Spirit. Do not despise prophetic utterances. Test everything; retain what is good. Refrain from every kind of evil.

May the God of peace make you perfectly holy and may you entirely, spirit, soul, and body, be preserved blameless for the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.

The one who calls you is faithful, and he will also accomplish it.

Lector: The word of the Lord.

All: Thanks be to God. Gospel Acclamation

    ALLELUIA! All:

  • Priest/Deacon: The Lord be with you. All: And with your spirit.

Priest/Deacon: A reading from the holy Gospel according to John (1:6-8, 19-28)

All: +Glory to you, O Lord. + (All trace the Sign of the Cross with right thumb on the forehead, lips, and heart)

A man named John was sent from God. He came for testimony, to testify to the light,

so that all might believe through him. He was not the light,

but came to testify to the light.

And this is the testimony of John. When the Jews from Jerusalem sent priests and Levites to him

to ask him, “Who are you?” he admitted and did not deny it, but admitted, “I am not the Christ.”

So they asked him, “What are you then? Are you Elijah?”

And he said, “I am not.” “Are you the Prophet?” He answered, “No.” So they said to him,

“Who are you, so we can give an answer to those who sent us? What do you have to say for yourself?” He said:

“I am the voice of one crying out in the desert, ‘make straight the way of the Lord,’ as Isaiah the prophet said.”

Some Pharisees were also sent. They asked him,

“Why then do you baptize if you are not the Christ or Elijah or the Prophet?”

John answered them, “I baptize with water; but there is one among you whom you do not recognize, the one who is coming after me, whose sandal strap I am not worthy to untie.”

This happened in Bethany across the Jordan, where John was baptizing.

Priest/Deacon: The Gospel of the Lord. All: Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ.

    Homily

  • The Creed

I believe in one God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all things visible and invisible.

I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ, the Only Begotten Son of God, born of the Father before all ages. God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, consubstantial with the Father,

through him all things were made. For us men and for our salvation he came down from heaven,

At the words that follow up to and including and became man, all bow.

and by the Holy Spirit was incarnate of the Virgin Mary, and became man.

For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate, he suffered death and was buried, and rose again on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures.

He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead and his kingdom will have no end.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son is adored and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets.

I believe in one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church. I confess one baptism for the forgiveness of sins and I look forward to the resurrection of the dead

and the life of the world to come. Amen.

Universal Prayer (Prayer of the Faithful) Response: Lord hear our prayer.

  • LITURGY OF THE EUCHARIST

    Offertory Antiphon

O Lord, you have favored your land, you have restored the wellbeing of Jacob. You have forgiven the iniquity of your people.

Priest: Pray, brothers and sisters, that my sacrifice and yours may be acceptable to God, the almighty Father.

All: May the Lord accept the sacrifice at your hands, for the praise and glory of his name, for our good and the good of all his holy Church.

  • Prayer over the Offerings Priest: …..Through Christ our Lord. All: Amen.

Priest: The Lord be with you. All: And with your spirit.

Priest: Lift up your hearts. All: We lift them up to the Lord.

Priest: Let us give thanks to the Lord, our God. All: It is right and just.

    All:

    THE MYSTERY OF FAITH

    Holy Holy Holy

  • Priest: The mystery of faith. All: Concluding Doxology Priest: Through him, and with him, and in him, O God, almighty Father, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, all glory and honor is yours, for ever and ever. All: The Communion Rite Priest: At the Savior's command and formed by divine teaching, we dare to say:

All: Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy Kingdom come. Thy will be done. On earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Priest: Deliver us, Lord, we pray, from every evil, graciously grant peace in our days, that, by the help of your mercy, we may be always free from sin and safe from all distress, as we await the blessed hope and the coming of our Savior, Jesus Christ.

All: For the kingdom, the power and the glory are yours now and for ever. Priest: Lord Jesus Christ, who said to your Apostles:....Who live and reign for ever and ever. All: Amen. Priest: The peace of the Lord be with you always. All: And with your spirit.

  • All: Priest: Behold the Lamb of God, behold him who takes away the sins of the world. Blessed are those called to the supper of the Lamb.

All: Lord, I am not worthy that you should enter under my roof, but only say the word and my soul shall be healed. Communion Hymn – Instrumental

If one is unable to receive our Lord in Communion, it is most appropriate to pray an Act of Spiritual Communion: My Jesus, I believe that You are present in the Most Holy Sacrament. I love You above all things, and I desire to receive You into my soul. Since I cannot at this moment receive You sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart. I embrace You as if You were already there and unite myself wholly to You. Never permit me to be separated from You. Amen. St. Michael Prayer: St. Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle. Be our defense against the wickedness and snares of the Devil. May God rebuke him, we humbly pray, and do thou, O Prince of the heavenly hosts, by the power of God, thrust into hell Satan, and all the evil spirits, who prowl about the world seeking the ruin of souls. Amen. Prayer after Communion

Priest: Let us pray. Look upon your Church, O God... ...Through Christ. All: Amen. The Concluding Rites

Priest The Lord be with you. All: And with your spirit. Priest: May almighty God bless you, the Father, and the Son, [+] and the Holy Spirit. All: Amen. Deacon or Priest: Go forth now, to proclaim God’s healing. All: Thanks be to God. Recessional Hymn - Instrumental

  • WEEK OF DECEMBER 7 - 13

For those who do not feel safe coming to Mass during this time and are livestreaming Mass or listening to Mass on the radio, a Communion Service is held every Sunday at our St. Peter site from 9:30-9:45 AM.

A number of children in our parish will be receiving the Sacrament of Reconciliation for the first time this Saturday, December 12th. We also have two children who will be receiving their First Communion this Sunday, December 13th at our 10:30am Mass. We

praise God for these children and thank God for the many graces he is giving them. Please keep all of them in your prayers.

Due to the generosity of our parishioners, all of the tags have been taken from our St. Peter

site Giving Tree! The MBS staff has also created a wish list for items and/or cash that can be used to support our parish mission. Please be sure to visit the trees at either site or check our website www.mbsoshkosh.com and our Calendar / Advent & Christmas 2020 / Resources for a complete wish list.

We do have the Polish Oplatek available at the Connection Centers for anyone who would like to take one home for their family. An offering of $1.00 is being asked.

You can help bring the beauty & goodness of the Christmas season to our parish this year! We still need volunteers to help with environment set up for the Christmas season. COVID safety protocols are in place, and all ages are welcome. Please sign up by visiting the "Volunteer Opportunities" page on our website.

We want to provide beautiful, safe and welcoming Masses for everyone who wishes to attend in person this Christmas. Please help us with our planning by making a reservation for the Christmas Eve or Christmas Day Mass you plan to attend. Use the link on our website or just call the parish office. Please include the number of people who will be joining you. You can always change your reservations as the holiday nears. These reservations help us as we plan for extra seating, volunteers and live-streaming needs. We appreciate your help!
