If you are choosing to lead “Rock Juice and Bread” during Make It Stick, post the “Allergy Alert Poster” (from Other Resources on the Web site). Be sure to list the foods you will be serving today. As parents bring their children to your room, call their attention to the sign.

1. to eat or not to eatWhat You Need: Two baskets, several pieces of play food, a crayon, a toy truck, a block and a bottle of water.

Note: You could easily sort into piles on the floor rather than using baskets.

What You Do: Ask children to sort items that they could eat or drink and those they could not. Place them in the appropriate basket or bin.

What You Say: “There are a lot of things on the table. What do you see? Are there things you could eat? (Pause.) You’re right, there are. Let’s put all the things you could eat or drink into this basket. (Point to one of the baskets.) What about this block? Could you eat it? (Pause.) NO! You can’t eat a block! Let’s put all the things you CAN’T eat in this basket. Great job sorting! Today we are going to hear a cool story about how God Gave people food to eat and water to drink.”

2. god saysWhat You Do: Play Simon Says.

What You Say: “Have you ever played Simon says? You have to do EXACTLY what Simon says don’t you? I’m going to be Simon so listen carefully and do what I say. Simon says to stand up tall. Great job! Simon says to hug a friend! Simon says to hop on one foot. That’s a hard one! Simon says give yourself a hug! Now sit down. Simon didn’t say sit down! That was a fun game. In our game, you had to do what Simon said to do. In our story today, we’ll hear how Moses and his people did what God said to do.”

3. snack timeWhat You Need: Play food, plates, utensils and other kitchen items.

What You Do: Tell the children you are hungry and would like a snack. Have them fix a snack for you.

What You Say: “Boys and girls, I’m soooo hungry! (Grab stomach.) Is it snack time? Can you please make me a snack so my tummy will stop growling and grumbling? Thank you! Oh, so yummy! Thank you for giving me a snack. It was just what I needed! God gave Moses and his people what they needed in our story today.”

Prepare to offer one or more of the following activities as your

2-year-olds arrive. Let one or two teachers lead small groups of

children in activities throughout the room while another teacher

greets parents and kids at the door. At this age not all children

will participate, but most will want to be part of the fun.

Make it Fun Key Question: Who is always with you?

Bottom Line: god is always with me.

bible storyWhat You Need: A Bible, a plastic toy chicken leg and a slice of bread.

STORYTELLER: “Our Bible story (Hold up Bible.) today is a great one! It’s a true story about Moses. Say it with me, Moses. (Kids respond.) Moses loved and trusted God. God was always with Moses. God told Moses and his people through the desert. It was hard being in the desert. In the desert, there isn’t any food to eat or water to drink. But, Moses followed God’s instructions and kept walking in the desert because Moses trusted God and knew that God was with him.

“God had promised to lead Moses and his people to a new and wonderful place to live, but it was far away. They had to walk and walk and walk. (Pat legs to sound like walking.) Then they had to walk and walk and walk some more. They were getting tired and hungry and thirsty, but they didn’t have anything to eat or drink! What were they going to do? (Shrug shoulders.) “Moses knew God was with them, and He would take care of them. Do you know what God did? It was amazing! God sent bread from heaven. (Hold up slice of bread and float it down to the ground.) Bread fell from the sky like rain! Moses and his people ate and ate. Yum! Guess what happened then. It was even more amazing! God sent quail for them to eat. Quail is a bird sort of like a chicken. (Hold up chicken leg.) God gave them bread and quail to eat! Thank You, God! But they were also thirsty! They needed water to drink but there wasn’t any! God made water come out of a rock for them to drink! Amazing! God totally took care of Moses and his people and gave them everything they needed.

“God was with Moses and his people all of the time. God gave his people what they needed. He gave them food to eat and water to drink. God gives me what I need too. God is always with me and with you. (Point to yourself and the children.) He will never ever, ever, ever leave us. Who is always with you? God is always with me. Who is always with you? God is always with me.”

PrayerLEADER: “God, You love me and You give me what I need. Thank You for always being with me. Amen.”

WorshipWhat You Need: CD player, this month’s worship song, “Wherever, Whatever,” downloaded from the Web site, and the motions for the song.

LEADER: “God gives us everything we need. God loves us and is always with us. Who is always with you? God is always with me. Say it with me. God is always with me! Sing with me about how God is always with me.”

Lead children in singing “Wherever, Whatever.”

LEADER: “Nice singing! I’m so thankful God gives me what I need. He loves us so much. Who loves you? God loves me. Say it with me. God loves me!”

Make it True

After children have participated in Make It Fun, tell the Bible story

and then encourage the kids to have fun singing with you.

When sharing the Bible story, guide kids to gather around you on the floor. Some kids

(especially the younger ones) may wander. That’s OK. They’re

still listening and learning!

Key Question: Who is always with you?

Bottom Line: god is always with me.

1. read the instructionsWhat You Need: “Instructions” (from the Activity Pages on the Web site) and white cardstock.

What You Do:Before the activity: Copy “Instructions” on cardstock and cut out.

During the activity: Spread the cards out on the floor and invite the children to come and “read” each card and follow the instructions. Position a small group leader near each card to help.

What You Say:During the activity: “In our story today, Moses needed to follow God’s instructions. Moses and his people went walking through the desert because God told them to. We’re going to play a game where we follow instructions too. I’m going to lay these cards on the floor. You need to go to each one and do what it tells you to do. Follow the instructions.”

At the end of the activity: “You did a wonderful job following the instructions! God gives us instructions to follow just like Moses and his people did in our story. God is always with us to help us follow His instructions. Who is always with you? God is always with me.”

2. Hokey PokeyWhat You Need: An open area on the floor.

What You Do: Sing and dance the Hokey Pokey, adapting it to the abilities of your children.

What You Say:During the activity: “Let’s make a big circle. Great! We are going to sing a song and play a game at the same time. Ready? You put your right arm in. You put your right arm out. You put your right arm in and you shake it all about. You do the Hokey Pokey and you turn yourself around. That’s what it’s all about!” (Continue with other body parts until finished.)

At the end of the activity: “You did a great job listening and following the instructions. Who had to follow God’s instructions in the story? (Pause.) Moses did. That’s right! God was always with Moses helping him to follow His instructions. God loved Moses and God loves you too. Give yourself a big hug! God loves me and God loves you. Who loves you? God loves me!”

Make it Stick

Choose two or more of the following activities to help make the Bottom Line stick. Lead the

activities with small groups of children. Encourage children to play on their own if they do not

wish to take part in an activity.

3. clothespin clipWhat You Need: “Clothespin” (from the Activity Pages on the Web site), white cardstock and spring loaded clothespins.

What You Do:Before the activity: Copy “Clothespin” on cardstock.

During the activity: Show children how to “work” clothespins. Look at the pictures on the cards and talk about the things you need. Have the children clip a clothespin on the things they need. You will end up with clothespins down each side of the page.

Note: If children are too young to manipulate clothespins, have them place a marker of some kind on the pictures of the things they need. Every picture will be covered.

What You Say: “Look at all the pictures on these cards. Do you see some things you need? When you see something you need, clip your clothespin on it. What types of things do you need? (Pause.) A bed to sleep in. That’s good. Food to eat. That’s really important. Who gives you what you need? (Pause.) That’s right. God gives you what you need just like God gave Moses his people what they needed. What did Moses’ people need? (Pause.) They needed food to eat and water to drink. God gave them what they needed in an amazing way! God gives us what we need too. He is always with us and always helping us. Who is always with you? God is always with me.”

4. rock juice and breadBe sure to list the foods you will be using today on the “Allergy Alert Poster” (from Other Resources on the Web site) and post it at the door to your room.

What You Need: Vanilla wafers, oranges, freezer bags, straws and a knife.

What You Do:Before the activity: Roll oranges on counter to loosen juice and then cut them in half. Place a half in each bag and seal pressing all the air out.

During the activity: Give each child a bag and let them squeeze the juice out of the orange. Help squeeze if needed. Open the bag enough to insert straw. Let the kids enjoy their snack, as they sip their rock juice and eat their heavenly bread.

What You Say: “Who knows what this is? (Hold up a whole orange and pause for answers.) It’s an orange! You are right! Can you get anything to drink from it? (Pause for answers.) Remember in our story Moses’ people were so thirsty because there was no water to drink? God made and water come out of a rock! They weren’t thirsty anymore! Take your bags and squeeze the orange. Let’s see if we can get any juice from our rock. Wow! Look at the juice you made! Would you like to taste it? Yummy! God also gave the people bread from heaven. These wafers are like the bread God sent to feed his people. God gives us what we need. God is with me. Who is always with you? God is always with me.”
