The Creative & Cultural Workforce Development Scheme (CiDS) offers continuing professional development opportunities for small and medium sized businesses in the creative and cultural industries in West Wales and the Valleys. This accredited work based-learning programme spans a range of areas in the creative and cultural industries, including performing arts, music production, technical theatre, design and crafts.

The programme aims to develop professional skills for freelancers, self-employed practitioners and micro-businesses in the creative and cultural industries. It also provides accreditation for the skills and knowledge you have already gained during your career in the sector. The Creative & Cultural Workforce Development Scheme is delivered through intensive bite-sized chunks, and offers a flexible approach to learning which allows you to study alongside your day-to-day job. Upon successful completion of the scheme students will receive an accredited qualification from the University of Glamorgan, along with the opportunity to continue their studies on a range of courses. The Creative & Cultural Workforce Development Scheme is offered in partnership with the University of Glamorgan and the Creative & Cultural Skills Council Wales. It has been made possible by the EU’s Convergence European Social Fund (ESF) through the Welsh Government.

ABOUT THE COURSE

n Creative Entrepreneurship 1 n Creative Entrepreneurship 2 n Introduction to Creative Skills Development 1n Introduction to Creative Skills Development 2 n Further Creative Skills Development 1 n Further Creative Skills Development 2.

You will be able to study up to 60 credits from within this range of modules. These modules will be tailored to your chosen field, and will develop both your entrepreneurial abilities and your practical skills within your area of the creative and cultural industries. The course also incorporates the industry-recognised NESTA (National Endowment for Science Technology and the Arts) toolkit.

The toolkit includes teaching materials and guidance designed to help creative individuals turn their ideas into successful businesses. This challenging programme includes case studies, downloadable worksheets and activities designed to challenge self-employed individuals or employees in the creative and cultural industries.

COURSE STRUCTUREStudents will be able to gain accreditation for skills they have already developed in the industry by matching their previous experience to the learning outcomes of a range of modules, including:

The Creative & Cultural Workforce Development Scheme has been made possible by the EU’s Convergence European Social Fund (ESF) through the Welsh Government. Successful applicants who meet the following entry criteria may be entitled to a fully or partly-funded place on the course: 1. You must live and/or work in one of the Convergence Areas of West Wales and the Valleys.

The convergence areas of West Wales and the Valleys are:

n Blaenau Gwent n Bridgend n Caerphilly and Torfaen n Carmarthenshire n Ceredigion n Conwy n Denbighshire n Gwynedd n Isle of Anglesey n Merthyr Tydfil n Neath Port Talbot n Pembrokeshire n Rhondda Cynon Taff n Swansea 2. You do not need any formal qualifications to gain entry to the scheme, but you must be employed or self-employed (full or part-time) in a relevant sector of the creative and cultural industries.

Relevant sectors include, but are not limited to: n performing arts n music production n technical theatre n design n crafts Contact us for more information on which sectors are eligible. If you are employed you must work for a Small or Medium Sized Enterprise (SME) that is not in the public sector. You will need to provide evidence of this, such as your contract of employment, when applying for a place on the course. If you are self-employed you will need to provide HMRC evidence of your employment status. If you live outside a Convergence Area, your HMRC address must be based within a Convergence Area. CAREER POTENTIAL

Upon completion of the scheme you can go on to use your new skills in the workplace or continue your studies on a range of University of Glamorgan accredited courses.

HOW YOU WILL STUDY We have designed the Creative & Cultural Workforce Development Scheme to fit around your day-to-day employment. As such it is delivered through short, intensive blocks of teaching, with some modules being delivered over weekends. You will be assigned a personal mentor who will guide you through your learning and advise you on how to get the most out of the scheme.

WHERE YOU WILL STUDYThe flexible nature of the scheme means that venues may vary, but much of the teaching and learning will take place at our state-of-the-art ATRiuM campus in Cardiff. Our facilities include a fully equipped High Definition TV studio with green-screen capabilities, purpose built recording and editing facilities for video and audio and computer labs with PC and Macintosh computers loaded with industry standard software packages.

MODE OF STUDY The course is part-time, allowing students to remain in employment during their studies.
