X-ray showing a rod impaled in Ha Wei's head in Guangzhou, China. A Chinese man has survived after getting a long welding rod impaled through his head. At the time of the accident Ha Wei was on a ladder welding a rain canopy. His cousin comments: 'He fell down from the ladder, he stayed on the ground for one or two minutes and said he was fine'. But when Wei was turned over there was a long welding rod protruding from his head. He was rushed to hospital where doctors undertook a five hour surgery to remove the 19cm long rod, which had penetrated 14cm into his head. Chief surgeon Wu Taihua said: 'The rod is only 2mm from the vena and 5mm from the neck artery. If any of the veins were injured, the patient may die at the scene.' Doctor Wu added that the rod went through the patient's brain and didn't stop until it hit the back wall of his skull.
