CHURCHES OPENING FOR LIMITED USE:

We are delighted to share the details of our church’s reopening with you. Our churches are preparing to open for personal prayer and reconciliation following the guidelines of Bishop David Zubik and the diocesan COVID-19 task Force.

Please note that the arrangements surrounding our church openings may be subject to change. PRIVATE PRAYER at ST. GREGORY PARISH

♦ 10 am-1:30 pm weekdays ♦ 10 am-noon on Saturdays ♦ 9 am-noon on Sundays RECONCILIATION

Saturday reconciliation will be moved indoors but not in the confessionals as they do not meet public health safety requirements. The schedule is:

♦ St. Ferdinand - 10 am ♦ St Gregory - 10 am ♦ Holy Redeemer - 11 am-noon WEDDINGS, FUNERALS AND BAPTISMS

Gatherings for weddings, funerals and baptisms are limited to 25 people including the celebrant.

RE: BAPTISMS — Baptisms can be scheduled but with the restriction of one family baptism per each ceremony and no more than 25 people present, including the Celebrant. Great care must be given to social distancing, wearing masks, and sanitization precautions. A schedule will be released to begin to relieve the backlog of baptisms for our grouping. GENERAL INFORMATION

Wear masks and observe social distancing practices while inside our Churches. In addition the following practices must be observed at all times:

♦ Fill out a the Sign-in/Sign-out sheet on the table in the vestibule. (This is required in the event someone becomes ill, we will be able to notify those who may also have been present.)

♦ Everyone will be responsible to clean the surfaces used/touched while in the Church, sanitizing products will be available for this purpose as well as hand sanitizer will be available.

♦ Our priests will continue to celebrate Masses in private. Sunday Mass will be available for viewing by Saturday evening via our YouTube channel. We thank you for being patient with us as we adjust to these new guidelines. We will be blessed to have you in our churches once again! CHANGES AS OF JULY 1, FOR OUR GROUPING

Bishop Zubik announced this week the clergy reassignments taking place in the diocese. Our grouping will change with Father Torquato leaving to become Pastor at St. Philip in Crafton (only 18 miles south), although we will miss him we wish him the best in his new assignment. Father Gallagher has agreed to step aside as our Administrator and become a Senior Priest and remain with us to provide his wonderful pastoral care for our grouping. The role of Administrator for our grouping is placed in the very capable hands of Very Rev. Father Philip Farrell, who we at St. Gregory know very well for his energetic, uplifting and edifying sermons. We welcome Father Phil with grateful, open arms (socially distanced, of course) as our Administrator and Pastor.

Blessed Palms are available for pick-up in the vestibule of the Church. Since they have been held for so long, their quality has somewhat diminished and they cannot be left out too much longer, so do not delay in getting them for your homes. To be safe, please take what you touch.

FATHER, GLORIFY YOUR SON

The Gospel reading is from a beautiful prayer/message of Jesus to God the Father. Today’s passage has two distinct portions. In the first section, Jesus is summoning courage and strength as he knows “the hour has come.” He has done everything that he can to glorify God on earth and is saying that he is ready to return to God, to the glory he had “before the world began.” If one remembers, the Gospel of John starts with “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” Try to imagine what mixed emotions Jesus must have had at this time. After all, he was fully human and fully God! He came, he was human, he did God’s will, he laughed, he cried, he got angry, he suffered, he had successes and he had setbacks. He had taken the plan as far as he could. Now it was time to let go. To let someone else take over. On the one hand there must be sorrow and sadness in letting go, but he is also ready to resume his Godhead, knowing from Heaven with the Father, He and the Holy Spirit will help us complete our individual path to salvation. From the first letter of John it says, “It was to destroy the devil’s works that the Son of Man revealed himself. No one begotten of God acts sinfully because he remains of God’s stock … This is the way to see who are God’s children and who are the devil’s. No one whose actions are unholy belongs to God, nor anyone who fails to love his brother.” So then, we the children of God have a responsibility to take over where Jesus left off, to let go of our will for our lives and let God and the Spirit lead us in His Will (knowing it by study, prayer and good works), then we too witness to Christ’s Glory. Seventh Sunday of Easter

Gov. Wolf and the PA Department of Education are looking to take most of the funding that Congress wants distributed equitably in COVID-19 relief to ALL schools in PA and across the country. Pennsylvania received $471 million in funding from Washington. But PCC Education Director Sean McAleer says “the Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE) created its own set of rules to distribute that money that blatantly ignores federal guidance. The end result significantly lowers the amounts to be given to Catholic and nonpublic school students.” McAleer broke down the disparity this way: “the Wolf Administration is calling for roughly $19 million to go to Catholic and nonpublic schools students, while Washington is calling for $66 million. The Wolf administration is misappropriating some $47 million in federal funds and harming families who have chosen to send their children to Catholic and nonpublic schools.” "Catholic and nonpublic school students matter," said McAleer. "We are asking Mr. Wolf And Education Secre-tary Pedro Rivera to please follow the federal guidelines! In a time when thousands of Pennsylvania’s children and families are suffering and struggling to make ends meet, the administration has chosen to cause further harm by refusing to allocate money as directed by the federal government.” Click the link below to log in and send your message: https://www.votervoice.net/BroadcastLinks/bLoi7nwoDwEslKQVryFTuQ

A Sermon by Saint Augustine on the Ascension of the Lord

We believe in Jesus whom we have not seen. Those who have seen and touched him with their own hands, who have heard the word from his mouth, are the ones who have borne witness to him. It was to teach these things to the world that they were sent by him. They did not presume to go out on their own initiative. And where did he send them? You heard the answer to that in the gospel reading: “Go, proclaim the Good News to every creature under heaven.” The disciples were sent to the ends of the earth, with signs and wonders accompanying them in confirmation of their testimony, because they spoke of what they had actually seen.

We believe in him though we have not seen him, and we await his return. Whoever waits for him in faith will rejoice when he comes, but those without faith will be put to shame at the appearance of what they cannot at present see. Then let us abide in his words, so that his coming may not put us to shame. In the gospel he himself says to those who have believed in him: “If you persevere in my word, you will truly be my disciples.” And to their unspoken question, “What will it profit us?”, he adds: “You will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”

At present we possess our salvation in hope, not in fact; we do not yet possess what we have been promised, but we hope to do so in the future. The one who promised it is faithful; he will not deceive you, so long as you wait for his promised gift without growing weary. The truth cannot possibly deceive. Make sure then that you yourself are not a liar, professing one thing and doing another; keep faith with him, and he will keep his word to you. If you do not keep faith, it will be you who deceive yourself, not he who made the promise.

“If you know that he is righteous, you can be sure that everyone who acts rightly is born of him.” Our righteousness in this life comes through faith. None but the angels are perfectly righteous, and they have only a shadow of righteousness in comparison with God. Nevertheless, if there is any perfect righteousness to be found in the souls and spirits created by God, it is in the holy angels who are good and just, who have not fallen away from God nor been thrust out of heaven by their pride. They abide forever in the contemplation of God’s word and find their happiness in nothing apart from him who made them. In these is found the perfection of righteousness, but in us righteousness has its beginning through faith, as the Spirit leads us.
