Dear Parents
Music was in the air at Cowra Public
School yesterday as the Cowra Public
School Band had their second
performance at the senior assembly.
Fantastic progress has been made
with the band under the guidance of
Mrs Mary-ann Wright, with all the
children showing greater skill in note
recognition and instrument control. It
will be exciting to see the band
performance at the end of the year
and see how far our students have
come.
This week also saw the start of the
Public Speaking semi- finals with four
of the final sixteen giving their
speeches. The competition will be
very difficult to judge as the standard
of these Year 6 students is extremely
high.
Yesterday the Cowra Touch teams
t ravel led to Orange to play
Bletchington Public School in the PSSA
knockout. Mrs Oborn was very
impressed with her girls who put
together a wonderful game and
really showed a range of skills.
Unfortunately the Blechington girls
team was too strong on the day
winning 5-2. Following this game the
boys played in what was a nail biting,

high speed game. The Cowra team
shone under the captaincy of Jaylan
Simpson to be 4 all with one minute to
play. In a very frantic last play
Bletchington moved the ball wide and
scored in the corner, winning the
game 5-4. The sportsmanship showed
by all four teams was tremendous and
really highlighted the value of the
opportunities provided to children to
enhance their skills through sport.
Next week Mrs Cole will be taking a
small group of children to the
Academic Olympics in Orange on
Wednesday. This is a competition day
of high order thinking between schools
which will be hosted by James
Sheahan High School. The day will
comprise of teamwork challenges to
solve a variety of problems in brain
straining engagement. Six students will
comprise the Cowra Public School
team and we wish them the very best
on the day as they compete against
the brightest teams in the Central
West.
I will be also taking a group of students
away next week for the Term 3
Adventure Day. This day will be
attended by 16 students who will have
a jam packed day of fun. Activities will
range from mountain climbing, to
following a cascading waterfall, as
well as caving, then finishing with
exploring a hidden cave behind a
forest waterfall. The adventure club has
now grown to 46 students with another
15 scheduled to join before the end of
the year in Term 4. This equates to 61
students having experienced the
activities for the year, which is
approximately a sixth of the entire
school. The basis of the adventure day is
the recognition of strong work ethic and
outstanding attendance.
Mrs Kilby and Mr Garlick will be travelling
to Dubbo next week on Tuesday for the
PBL road show which is a meeting of all
schools involved in PBL in the western
area. Our school is seen as a leader in
educational practise under the PBL
process and we are often viewed as a
school of best practise. Both Mrs Kilby
and Mr Garlick, who are heavily
involved in the PBL committee at Cowra,
will be talking to other schools that are
looking to be involved in PBL.
Lastly, today the school ran the Father’s
Day stall (most important day of the
year) with all children taking the
opportunity to purchase a gift for Dad. I
hope all fathers enjoy Sunday. A huge
thank you to the P&C for running the stall
and organising the gifts.
Regards
Brad Tom

GIRLS’ PSSA SOCCER
Last Friday, Cowra Public Girl’s soccer
team played Millthorpe Public School in
the 4th round of the PSSA Soccer
Knockout competition.
The weather was miserable and the girls
did exceptionally well to play in such
conditions. It proved to be a tough game
with Millthorpe defending well. It was
through great passing by the midfielders
and forwards that saw Cowra take the
lead 1-nil. The girls continued to play well,
with a solid defensive line that Millthorpe
couldn’t break. A penalty saw the girls
take away the game 2-nil.
Thanks to all the parents who came and
supported the girls.
Well done girls!

Book Week photos cont… As promised, here are some more book week photos.
Infants classes have been jointly writing a report during
library this week about our activities during Book Week.
Here is KW’s report:
It was Book Week last week.
In library time we read the shortlisted books and we voted for the best book of the year. Peggy was Cowra
Public School’s favourite book. We made a star using Publisher to decorate the library for Book Week. We
looked at the planets and we watched an astronaut on YouTube.
Wednesday was the Book Week Parade. We got to dress up as a book character or someone from space.
Mrs Oborn took lots of photos of our costumes. Mrs Garling was dressed up as Darth Vader and so was Alex
and Charlie! We had a parade in the hall to show everyone our costumes. We had a great time!
We had a special recess in the library with the primary kids. It was a very good day.
Here is a list of costumes from KW- Alex- Darth Vadar, Maddie – Sleeping Beauty, Kiera – Angelina Ballerina,
Jacob – Harry Potter, Sophie – Ballerina, Sean – ninja, Charlie- Darth Vadar, Liam- Spider Man, Nathan – Iron
Man, Rhys- tiger.
