We hope you had a relaxing holiday break. We certainly did, and are rearing and ready to go for Term 3!

A lot happened during Term 2 and over the holidays. Including:

• The Cowra Eisteddfod, where many CBS students were successful in both groups and solos.

• Tap workshops with Gwen Laird from Bathurst, which was a great advantage to those students who attended.

• The trip to Sydney to watch Bangarra Dance Theatre perform at the Opera House was a touching cultural experience.

• A couple of CBS students achieved well at the Forbes Eisteddfod.

• And finally, current and former CBS students were awarded prestigious community awards at the NAIDOC Awards Ceremony.

In fact Term 2 was so busy, we didn’t get a chance to hold our “Healthy Bodies” Recovery Masterclass. Bowen therapist, Jenny Minehan has agreed to take the “Healthy Bodies” Recovery Masterclass this Term. In addition, will be the “Be The Best” Stage Performance Masterclass (hopefully with Miss Shelby and Eleanor) later in Term 3. See more details on page 2!

“The Year to be Awesome!”

Masterclasses

Term 3 “Healthy Bodies” (Physio/Recovery)

“Be the Best” (Stage Performance)

Term 4 “Look the Part” (Hair and Make Up)

Term 3 Masterclass – “Healthy Bodies” Term 2’s masterclass is called “Healthy Bodies”. It will focus on the various aspects how to care for your body prior to a class or performance to ensure you are physically ready to do it all again the next day! – Because lets face it… No one wants to be so sore they can’t do their happy dance every day! Former local physiotherapist Jenny Minehan is hosting the “hands-on” practical workshop. She has an abundance of experience (not only as a physiotherapist) and she is excited to share it with you! TIME TO BE CONFIRMED FOR A SATURDAY IN MID-LATE AUGUST

Wear dance clothing as you will be moving and stretching!

Exams Gain recognized qualif ications that wi l l serve you in your career as dancers and as young people. This term will see our Tap and Ballet students complete their exams, and further their skills, knowledge and experience as dancers. Entries have now been processed, and sent to the appropriate governing body. If you are entered in these exams please ensure you have the full correct uniform required for the exam day (including character shoes and skirt). These Items are available at The Dancers Corner. Private Lessons are also encouraged for students preparing for their ballet and tap exams. Please discuss this option with Hayley and Thalia to arrange times if necessary. We wish all the exam students the best of luck! Latin ~ Salsa ~ Ballroom A adults partnering dance class, with a focus on fun, f i tness and fr iendship. Salsa Latin dance classes are continuing with Sabrina on Monday evenings from 7pm to 8pm weekly. At only $70 per term, what do you have to lose!? Don’t have a partner? Not a worry… come along and meet new friends who just want to dance too!

Dancing is not only about the movement, the music and the expression. There is a lot of hard work that goes into creating a seemingly effortless piece of choreography, and dancers often put their bodies on the line for it!

But how well do you actually look after your body in the lead up, and after a class or performance?

2016 Annual Showcase Concert Toy Story Over the holidays, the teachers got together to discuss the end of year concert. As you know, this is the main event on the CBS calendar every year, and many students were ‘dying to know’ what the concert would be before Term 2 ended. We are pleased to announce, that this year’s concert storyline will be based on the much-loved children’s movies, the Toy Story sequel. Main characters have been notified of their roles, and a list of the classes and their concert groups will be posted on the wall at the studio ready for Week 1. To the left is a list of concert dates. THESE DATES ARE CONFIRMED AND SET FOR THE CONCERT. Throughout the first weeks of Term 3, you will receive a Concert Information Pack. It will include these dates, the expectations of the students, information about rehearsals and costumes, as well as estimated costs for costumes. It is getting colder outside so it’s time to rug up (but only before and after your dance classes!) Although we would much prefer to stay in our PJ’s, as dancers we have expectations to wear the correct uniform to class (even when it is cold).

Girls: in addition to your leotard, a crossover or tight long-sleeve shirt should be worn. For Jazz, Tap and Afro please wear long leggings or dance pants, and for Ballet, your usual ballet stockings with leg warmers over the top can be worn.

Boys: A tight long-sleeve shirt can be worn to any class. For Jazz and Afro, please wear long dance pants or leggings, and for ballet, long leggings are essential.

We do our best to maintain a warm air temperature in the studios, so please no large jackets, tracksuit pants or scarves to be worn in class.

Jeans for Genes Week – 1st to 6th August At CBS we have taken Jeans for Gene Day a step further and made it a FULL WEEK! This is your chance to wear an item of denim to dance class for the week! And in the spirit of being Awesome and paying it forward, we ask for a gold coin donation, which will be passed on the Children’s Medical Research Institute, who endeavor to discover treatments and cures for cancer, epilepsy, birth defects and genetic diseases. Check out their website at www.jeansforgenes.org.au
