The VMH Corporate Wellness Program

What is it?The VMH Corporate Wellness Program is aimed at encouraging associates

and their spouses to take care of themselves and value their own health. It is important for employees within the health care industry to pay particular

attention to their health as they are at greater risk due to close interactions with disease and stress.

It is also important for every associate within the VMH family to be seen as a walking, talking, advocate for living a healthy lifestyle and provide

inspiration for others in our community to do the same.

By following this three step program you will improve your health, reduce your risk of developing chronic health conditions, and be

rewarded for doing so.

How do I participate? The first step is to begin with a complete biometric

screening. You must complete step 1 to claim any reward. You become enrolled in the wellness program

when you complete step 1.

Once step 1 is complete, your program is whatever you make it. You are free to design your own personal action plan to help you

tackle your own personal goals. Help in developing your plan is offered by the VMH

Community Health Education department as well as our employee health nurse.

Claiming your reward is simple. Gather the required evidence for each

wellness task you have chosen and submit it monthly to VMH Community Health Education.

It’s easy. It’s flexible. It’s personal.

Above all, it’s rewarding.

Complete Biometric Screening

What is measured?

How to get a biometric screening

What happens in a biometric screening?

How to claim this reward

A complete biometric screening is a great way to get a baseline measurement of your current health. The screening measures blood glucose, cholesterol and triglycerides and can provide early warning signs of high cholesterol and diabetes.

LDL CholesterolReferred to as “bad” cholesterol, LDL (Low Density Lipoprotein) cholesterol collects in the lining of arteries and compromises blood flow. Elevated LDL levels are commonly the result of inactivity, obesity, and type II diabetes.

HDL CholesterolHDL cholesterol is described as “good cholesterol.” It flows through the bloodstream and removes harmful bad cholesterol. High HDL levels reduce the risk of heart disease.

TriglyceridesTriglycerides are a type of fat found in the blood. They are used to store unused calories from food for use by your body later. High triglycerides may contribute to the hardening of arteries–increasing the risk of stroke, heart attack and heart disease.

Blood GlucoseA high or low blood sugar level can lead to serious short and long term health problems. Uncontrolled blood sugar can damage the vessels that supply blood to important organs such as the kidneys, liver, and heart.

Understanding your numbers and managing your lifestyle accordingly can help reduce your risk of chronic health conditions.

A biometric screening requires just a single drop of blood pricked from your finger. Results are ready in 5 minutes.

ProviderYour primary care provider can perform a biometric screening. Use this opportunity to discuss other health issues and arrange a physical. Cost: Typical clinic/lab charges apply. Please call your clinic to set up an appointment.

To claim your $50 reward simply submit your lab results as proof to [email protected]. Rewards are not dependent on having “good” or “bad” test results.

VMH Health EducationA biometric screening can be performed by our VMH Health Educator. Cost: Free. Please call #74298 to set up an appointment or visit www.vmh.org and click on “classes & events” to register online.
