Headmistress’s Message

Dear Parents As I write this, the snow is falling and the children cannot wait to get home and play! It certainly looks like a Christmas card. It’s been a very busy but enjoyable term with performances from all the children, trips out and festive treats, culminating in our Junior Christmas Carol Service at St. John’s Church in Epping. Well done and thank you to all the pupils, staff and parents who have contributed and supported us at all our events. We look forward to many more in the new year. I wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Peaceful New Year.

Kind regards

Kaye Lovejoy

Upper Kindergarten’s ‘Snowlaf’ Creation

Upper Kindergarten Baker collected the used plastic cups from the

school dining hall, gave them a wash and ‘upcycled’ them in a very

creative way. The children used them to make a big snowman that the

children named ‘Snowlaf Snowpuff’. They also used plastic cups to

make their own ‘Olaf’ models. They have all made the Kindergarten

classroom look very festive!

Charlie’s Karate Championship

Recently Charlie made the journey over to Kilkenny in Ireland to compete in the

IKU World Championships. He set himself a high target and remained determined

and focused throughout. It all paid off when he received a Bronze medal in Kata

and the Gold medal in Kumite, achieving World Championship title for his

category!

Charlie has been training four times a week for the last four months under Sensei

Daniel Cuthbert’s watchful eye, who should also take credit for pushing Charlie to

this remarkable level.

Congratulations Charlie, keep up the good work!

Carol Service

On Tuesday 12 December Coopersale Hall held their annual Christmas Carol Service in front of an audience of

friends and family. The event was held in St John’s Church in Epping with the snow outside adding to the festive

feel! The children presented the story of the Nativity using song and dance with highlights being ‘Knock at the

Door’, ‘Get in Line’ and of course the grand finale of ‘Oh What a Night’! There were lots of lines to remember but

the children took it all in their stride and presented an excellent show.

Football Report

Coopersale Hall played their first Football League matches of the season on Monday 13 November at the

Shooters Football Centre in North Weald.

The team’s first game was against Epping Primary School. By half time they were 3-0 down, but battled back to

3-3 before conceding a few late goals, the score line finished 6-4 to Epping Primary.

In the second game the team found themselves 6-0 down before staging a great fight back to 6-5, the final score

was 7-5 to Ivy Chimneys.

Despite not winning, the team performed exceptionally well together and should be very proud of their play on

the field. It was great practise for the many games still to come.

Poppy Making in Transition Rooks

In November the pupils in Transition Rooks were proud to make their

own poppies in honour of Remembrance Day.

They listened carefully to facts about this special day and why people

wear poppies. They also learned that following the conflicts, poppies

were one of the only plants to grow on the barren battlefields. The

finished poppies were beautiful, and the children loved wearing them

throughout the day.

UKC Gruffalo Adventure

The children in Upper Kindergarten Cambridge have been learning all

about the story of ‘The Gruffalo’ and most can now recall their

favourite part of the story. Everyone really enjoyed the school trip to

‘The Gruffalo Trail’ in

Brentwood which involved

an adventure through the

woods meeting all of their

favourite characters. The

children made a home for a mouse, turned into squirrels and rabbits,

flew and sang like an owl, built a log pile home for snake and of

course met the Gruffalo and the Gruffalo’s child. How exciting!

Oak-Tree Fireworks Display

The Oak-Tree Parents’ Association Fireworks Display went off with a

bang on Sunday 12 November with around 1000 people in attendance.

There were numerous stalls and activities to keep the children

entertained such as face and nail painting, glitter tattoos, biscuit

decorating, lucky dip and hundreds of glowing toys. There was also a

fantastic hat competition

that was judged on the night

which had some amazing

entries. The hot mulled wine went down a treat with all the adults and

the hot dogs and hot chocolate were loved by the children! Everyone

also got to enjoy listening to some live music from the Normanhurst

Band. The fireworks themselves were spectacular as always, and

overall it was a very successful evening.

Our Library at Coopersale Hall School

During a recent assembly, Charlotte who is the library prefect spoke to

the rest of the children. She wanted their help to spruce up the library

for Christmas. Pupils were provided with paper baubles and were

asked to decorate them with their favourite book character. They also

had to write on the back of the bauble explaining why they had chosen

that particular character. The response was great and the library

looked fantastic with the decorated tree. Well done Charlotte for your

idea and effort.

“I am the library prefect and the library looks great this Christmas. I would like to thank everyone who made a

lovely bauble because it has made the library look brilliant. Thank you everyone” Charlotte

UKB’s Ice Experiments

This term Upper Kindergarten Baker have been experimenting with

ice. Some of their toys were mysteriously frozen in ice and the

children were set with the difficult task of working out how to get

them out! One suggestion

was warming the ice with

their hands, but the ice was

too cold and it made their

hands red. They then tried

some salt and warm water using pipets to drop warm water onto the

ice which made it melt much quicker. The children enjoyed this activity

so much they did it again… and again!

ISA London North Swimming Gala

On Monday 20 November Coopersale Hall School took part in the ISA

London North Area Swimming Gala, held at the Copthall Sports

Centre Barnet.

After battling through the Monday morning rush hour traffic,

everyone needed something to make it all worthwhile. The pupils’

hard work and determination really paid off, and overall the school

managed to win medals in six different events. An incredible result!

“On Monday 20 November, Coopersale Hall swimming team had a marvellous day at the Barnet I.S.A. Swimming

Gala winning Gold, Silver and Bronze medals. I am so proud of the whole team each and every one of them tried

so hard and some were even victorious. Kimaya took a Gold, there were two girls relay teams and both teams

won Gold. The boys relay team got a Bronze medal and I won two Golds and a Silver. Even though some didn’t

win a medal they still pushed themselves to the limit and performed very well. Overall we came fifth out of a lot

of schools. On the way back I could see everyone was very tired but so happy.

Thank you to Mr Robinson for organising this trip and supporting us and to Mrs Boultwood who was cheering us

along the whole time. Also a very big thank you to the caretakers for driving us.” Arwen

Epping Market Choir

On Friday 1 December Epping High Street was packed with people. A

huge crowd enjoyed browsing Christmas stalls and were entertained

by a selection of acts.

Coopersale Hall’s Year 2

choir were absolutely

fantastic, singing a variety

of carols and Christmas

songs confidently to the

local residents, family and friends. Well done everyone, you

successfully got everyone in the Christmas spirit!

Festive Walks with UKB On a windy Wednesday afternoon Upper Kindergarten Baker

continued their outdoor adventures looking at the shapes of the trees.

They found lots of trees that were triangle shapes that were still green

like Christmas trees. The children then used sticks to make a big

triangle like a Christmas tree and used a rainbow of leaves to decorate

it. Hopefully everyone saw it before it blew away!

When Hansel and Gretel Came to School

The children in Year 1, Transition, Upper and Lower Kindergarten and

staff were treated to an amazing performance of Hansel and Gretel by

the Hobgoblin Theatre Company this festive season. Everyone thought

that the performance was hilarious, and some of the children even got

the chance to go up on stage and act themselves! Thank you to FOCHS

for organising it, it was enjoyed by all!

The Little Red Hen by Transition Pettigrew

Recently the children of Transition Pettigrew performed their class

assembly to the rest of the school and their parents. They spoke about

what they had been learning, sang a song in French and told the story

of ‘The Little Red Hen’.

All of the children made some great masks to help bring the story to

life and showed great confidence on stage. Well done!

KS1 Presents ‘Super Star’

KS1 put on some fantastic shows on Tuesday 5 and Thursday 7

December to packed audiences of family and friends. There were

stars, shepherds, Mary and Joseph, Wise Men and their apprentices,

travellers, animals, angels

and a very special Super

Star! The children told the

story of the Nativity with

their own special little twist

on it, which was full of songs and some great dance moves! Well done

to all of the children that took part, everyone was very confident and

played their part brilliantly!

A Very Exciting Visitor

Monday 4 December was a very exciting day at Coopersale Hall.

Throughout the day all of the children had the chance to pay Santa a

visit, sit in the sleigh and meet his real life reindeer! It was fantastic to

see how excited the

children were, they

especially loved being able

to say hello to Rudolf and

his friends. Following this

each year group took a trip to the FOCHS gift shop to pick out the

perfect Christmas present for their families. A huge thank you to

FOCHS for making the day possible for the children, they all had a

magical time!

Christmas Card Competition

The Mayor of Epping, Tony Church,

once again invited local schools to

participate in the annual Christmas

Card Competition. Coopersale Hall

took part from Transition to Year

6. The theme was a child’s

perspective of Christmas. Last year the

school had a 1st place in Year 3 and

this year have again done exceptionally well with a 1st place from Year 2,

George, and the runner up from Transition, Alice!

ISA Nation Swimming Gala

Coopersale Hall School is proud to announce that two pupils will be

competing in the I.S.A. National Swimming Gala at the London

Aquatics Centre in Stratford.

Following the recent success in the London North Area Swimming Gala

held in Barnet, two swimmers, Arwen and Oliver have been selected

to represent the London North Area Swimming Team at the I.S.A.

National Swimming Gala.

Arwen will be competing in the Year 6 Girls Backstroke, Year 6 Girls Medley Relay and the Year 6 Girls Freestyle

Relay. Oliver will be competing in the Year 5 Boys Freestyle Relay.

The school would like to thank them for representing the school so brilliantly and wish them every success in the

I.S.A. National Swimming Gala on Sunday 21 January 2018!

A Little Present

Lower and Upper Kindergarten put on a fantastic Christmas show for

their families on Tuesday 5 December. They performed an array of

songs including ‘Jingle Bells’,

‘We Must go to Bethlehem’,

‘Just a Kiss’ and the

children’s favourite,

‘Twinkle, Twinkle’. They all

sang with great enthusiasm

and confidence and should be very proud. It certainly got the audience

in the festive spirit, well done everyone!

Transition Presents the Nativity

Transition children entertained the large crowd of friends and family

with a wonderful retelling of the Nativity story on Friday 8 December,

accompanied by some

lovely songs. There was a

huge range of cast including

Mary and Joseph, Angel

Gabriel, the Shepherds,

Wise Men and many

twinkling stars. Well done children, you should be very proud!

Fantastic Singing Assembly

Huge congratulations and well done to all the singers who performed

brilliantly in their recent singing assembly.

They sang two Disney songs, ‘Zip-a-Dee-Doo-Dah’ and ‘A Spoonful of

Sugar’ and then Year 2 children performed ‘Yellow Submarine’

brilliantly. Years 5 and 6 performed ‘Don’t Look Back in Anger’ with

solos from Afreen, Abigail, Daisy and Charlotte. Years 4, 5 and 6 sang

‘Mambo Italiano’, a challenging song, with great confidence. Finally

they finished off with ‘I’m a Believer’ with the all the year groups

singing together.

FOCHS Christmas Fayre

Friday 24 November held the annual FOCHS Christmas Fayre, and as

always it was a huge success! The hall was packed with family, friends

and pupils, all eager to take a look at the many stalls around the hall.

Firm favourites with the

children were definitely the

pocket money and sweet

stalls. Everyone also had a

lot of fun trying their luck on

the Wheel of Fortune, Tin Can Alley and the Snowman games. A huge

thanks to FOCHS for taking the time to arrange and run such a great

event. The countdown to Christmas has really begun!

Transition Farm to Fork Trail

As part of their Food and Festivals topic, the children in Transition had

a wonderful opportunity to visit Tesco in Church Langley for much

more than just a normal shopping trip! The children took part in one of

the store’s Farm to Fork Trails which help children to learn about

healthy food choices and where to find the nutritional information

about what they

eat. They had the

opportunity to take part in a

food tasting session and were amazed as to how much sugar was

contained in some cereals, especially coco pops!

They tasted healthy snacks, found some different fruit and vegetables

and made their own breakfast cereal to take away. It was a very

informative trip, thank you Tesco!

FOCHS Update

We've had an action-packed half term gearing up for the

festivities, kicking off with a movie night screening of Arthur

Christmas, the Christmas Fayre, Christmas gift shop, a visit and

gifts from Santa himself together with his reindeer, a pantomime

visit from the Hobgoblin Theatre Group for the younger children

and an exciting trip to Chelmsford to see a hilarious Snow White for the older ones.

The term was rounded off on the last day of term when the raffle was drawn for the beautiful Christmas baskets

which have been on display outside the office and which the children were very excited about. Congratulations

to the winners! Thank you to everyone who has helped FoCHS to make all these activities happen this year and

we wish everyone a very merry Christmas!

The Oak-Tree Football Tournament

All four schools of the Oak-Tree Group recently took part in the

Oak-Tree Football Tournament. In the first match Coopersale Hall

played a well organised and skilful Normanhurst side. The team

managed to pass the ball around and create space very successfully. At

the final whistle the score was Coopersale 4 Normanhurst 0.

There was then a short break between matches before they took on a

young but determined Oaklands team. At the final whistle the scores

were Coopersale Hall 8 Oaklands 0.

Mr Robinson would like to thank all players for showing such effort and determination. This was the second year

running that Coopersale Hall were crowned Oak-Tree Schools Football Tournament Winners. Thank you also to

all the parents who came to watch and cheer the children on.

The Oak-Tree Netball Champions

Children from all four Oak-Tree schools gathered together at Braeside

Senior site to play some competitive netball matches this term!

“On the 23 November Coopersale Hall’s netball team took part in the

Oak-Tree Netball Tournament. We played three games and in total 27
