Well done everyone in Willow for winning the house cup this term. A fantastic achievement.

Scottish Dancing Assembly On Wednesday 24 March the school hall was filled with a colourful array of tartan as the Year 1's delighted us with their Scottish dancing assembly. They performed a selection of Scottish and country dancing under the guidance of Emma Jane in front of a large audience, then again in front of the whole school. They even got the audience participating in the pat-a-cake polka. A big well done to all who took part.

Haileybury Art Competition The following children have had a piece of art work chosen to be submitted into this year’s ‘The Haileybury Festival of Arts 2016’. Good luck everyone.

Painting in Year 1 Daly Year 1 Daly have produced some beautiful paintings of Spring flowers. The children learnt how to mix colours and use different size brushes. Mrs Daly was delighted by the finished products. The concentration and attention to detail was lovely to watch. Well done Year 1 Daly.

Year 2B Class Assembly Year 2B’s assembly was about Florence Nightingale. They showed Florence’s life from when she told her father of her calling to become a nurse, her work at the hospital in the Crimea, to when she received an award from Queen Victoria. The children acted superbly and their singing was wonderful. Each child said what they would like to be when they grow up and that they would like to make a difference in the world. The assembly ended with the song ‘Love in my Heart’. This is the most important thing of all.

‘A’ Team Football Match On Monday 29 February Coopersale Hall’s football team played a league fixture against Dr Walkers School. The match was played at the Shooters Football Centre at North Weald Golf Club. The team played extremely well passing the ball creatively and scoring some lovely goals. In a hard fought match the scores were level 5-5 at full time. Mr Robinson would like to thank the pupils for playing so well and to all the parents who turned up to support us.

Year 3/4 Football Match On Monday 7 March Coopersale Hall’s Year 3/4 football team played St Nicholas School. The team passed the ball accurately and defended well. Unfortunately we narrowly lost the match 3-1. We then played a second match; this was a very pleasant surprise for the team. In the second match we once again played with real determination and commitment but lost 2-0. Jack had a wonderful match in goal, saving a number of shots with their attack clean through on goal. Mr Robinson would like to thank the pupils for their excellent behaviour and positive attitude throughout the matches. Also a big thank you to all the parents who came along to watch and cheer on the team.

Coopersale Hall Triumphs at Netball Tournament Coopersale Hall’s netball team were victorious at the local netball tournament on Tuesday 22 March. There were 12 teams and Coopersale won all their matches conceding only four goals. They then went on to win their semi-final and a tough final against St Andrews. The girls played outstandingly and were thrilled with their success, medal and trophy. “They thoroughly deserved to win - each girl gave 110%” - Mrs Lane

Easter Bunnies visit Year 1 Year 1 Allen and Year 1 Daly had early visits by the Easter Bunny last week. Both Jessica and Mollie Dunn brought in amazing models of the bunnies they had made at home with their Mummy. They told their classes how they made them using balloons which were covered with lots of paper and glue. They were then painted in grey and brown and cut out the middle which was filled with Easter eggs for the children. Well done girls you’ve done an amazing job.

Bikeability in Year 6 Last week Year 6 enjoyed a fantastic adventure which involved cycling around the local vicinity. We had great fun on day one because we did lots of tricky challenges cycling round the astro turf which involved dodging cones and swerving round obstacles and lots of races. On day two Year 6 adventured on to the lane just outside the school. We learnt how to indicate sufficiently, how to do a sharp turn, to stop suddenly and generally how to stay safe on the road. We also did an M check on our bikes and for a little treat we were allowed to cycle down the hill, but unfortunately we had to cycle up the hill! Year 6 had a wonderful 2 days and would gladly do it all again. We would like to thank Jeanette, Natalia and Chris from Bikeability. The experiences we had and skills we learnt could help save our lives on the roads. By Rowan and Brooke

Living Eggs in Upper Kindergarten Thomas A big thank you to all the FOCHS members for getting the Living Eggs for everyone at Coopersale. The whole school enjoyed visiting the chicks in Upper Kindergarten Thomas classroom. The children in UKT were very lucky and saw three chicks hatch. They all loved holding and caring for them.

Year 1 visit North Weald Library On Thursday 3 March, KS1 classes visited North Weald Library as part of our World Book Day activities. The children enjoyed listening to the librarian read an extract from Roald Dahl’s book ‘The Twits’ before finding out about how the library works.

Finally the children had a chance to explore the shelves and see the wonderful range of books available for borrowing.

A Nurse visits Year 2 As part of their history topic on famous people, Year 2 are studying Florence Nightingale. We had a visit from Ria Magol (Borg) who answered many questions about being a nurse. Ethan Roos listened using a stethoscope and Millie Whale had her arm bandaged.

ISA National Swimming Gala On Saturday 23 January the ISA National Swimming Gala was held at the London Aquatics Centre. Four of our pupils had qualified by swimming brilliantly at the London North Area Gala in November. Our pupils were Ava – Year 5 Girls Front Crawl and Freestyle Relay Team, Taylor – Year 4 Girls Freestyle Relay Team, Arwen – Year 4 Girls Backstroke and Samuel – Year 5 Boys Freestyle Relay Team. It is a fantastic achievement to get through to this National event and the standard of the swimming is very high. The Gala is held from 12noon to 6pm and involves a huge time commitment from pupils and their families. We can only apologise for not including this very worthy news item at an earlier date. The school is extremely proud of Ava, Taylor, Arwen and Sam’s achievements. Mr Robinson would like to thank the pupils for all their hard work and their parents for supporting them so well. Ava, Taylor, Arwen and Samuel are pictured below along with our other swimmers.

Year 6 visit the William Morris Gallery On Tuesday 8 March Year 6 went to the William Morris Gallery in Walthamstow. As you may presume we are studying William Morris. The William Morris Gallery was one of the houses that the artist grew up in! The things that we did in the William Morris Gallery were extremely fun. The highlight of the day was producing a printed pattern. We had to use stamps, smother them in ink then stamp them onto a piece of paper. We had a variety of colours to choose from, such as purple, blue and red. The next activity we did was to produce a piece of writing about William Morris. We started off by writing about a William Morris pattern. We had to write down all the animals and plants in the picture. After we finished we visited the shop. We had lots of fun buying things for ourselves. All my class enjoyed the William Morris Gallery trip and would definitely want to go again. By Jack, Year 6

‘A’ Team Football Match On Monday 14 March Coopersale Hall ‘A’ Team played two matches in the Epping and Ongar District Football League. Our first match was against Chipping Ongar School, the team put on a brilliant display winning 11-4. Our second match was against High Ongar School. Once again the team played with real confidence and skill, unfortunately losing 6-4 after conceding some goals late on in the match. Mr Robinson would like to thank all of the pupils for playing with such determination and skill. Also a big thank you to all the parents who came along to cheer on the team. These were the last two fixtures of the league season. Coopersale Hall School finished in 8th place which is a very creditable performance for our team.

Year 1 Graves Class Assembly On the 9 March Year 1 Graves performed their class assembly which was all about ‘Toys’. They showed some games that were played in the Victorian times and also talked about the toys that children played with in the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s. The children enjoyed dancing to the music from each era and finding out about the toys and games that were around then. They also showed the audience their puppets that they had made themselves. Mrs Graves and Miss Simms were so proud of the children for working so hard on their class assembly – a fantastic effort by all.

FoCHS Update The children were delighted to herald the start of spring with a visit from the Easter Bunny and his

animal friends. Everyone had an opportunity to hold or stroke ducklings, lambs, rabbits, baby guinea pigs, chickens and goats, as well as have a cuddle with the Easter Bunny! Following on from the Living Eggs, this was a fitting end to the spring term.

Those who have had the pleasure of seeing the beautiful Easter baskets outside the office will be very excited about the final event of the term - the drawing of the FoCHS Easter Raffle tickets - good luck everyone!

We wish everyone a fantastic Easter holiday and look forward to the return of Ice Cream Friday at the start of the summer term!

If you would like to get in touch please don't hesitate to drop us a line at [email protected]. Thank you!

Year 6W Class Assembly with Upper Kindergarten Thomas On Friday 12 February Year 6 Watson and Upper Kindergarten Thomas celebrated the Chinese New Year by doing an assembly.

Year 6 told the story of how each year got an animal to represent it which rotates every 12 years. It was very funny watching everyone acting it out in their wonderful costumes.

Upper Kindergarten Thomas also took part. They made paper fish, dragons and tigers which they held up in the assembly. They also enjoyed eating Chinese food in class.

Chinese New Year in Upper Kindergarten Thomas Upper Kindergarten Thomas enjoyed celebrating the Chinese New Year by eating different kinds of Chinese food in class which Miss Thomas had very kindly made. They enjoyed using the chop sticks, and tasting the different flavours.

Transition Pettigrew In the run up to Easter, the children made chocolate nests and filled it with chocolate eggs before finally putting it inside their Easter baskets. As part of their topic on ‘Growing’, parents were invited in to talk about their work so that the children could think about what they might like to be when they grow up. They very much enjoyed the visit from a barrister and had to decide whether a rabbit was guilty of leaving two carrots on his plate

KS2 Junior Prom Pupils from KS2 impressed their audience yesterday evening with a range of modern to classical music at the Junior Prom Concert. A section of children from the Junior choir sang with passion and great musicality performing songs such as Get Loud through to reggae styled music. The orchestra, including a few teachers, played a range of interesting pieces by Sarah Watts, with a great sense of energy, enjoyment and skill. It was fantastic hearing our children play the guitar, violin, flute and piano showcasing a range of talents giving them a well-earned opportunity to share the results of their labours. A memorable night showing the full range of musical talents at Coopersale Hall School.

We would like to wish all our pupils and parents a very happy Easter.

We look forward to seeing you all back at school for the Summer Term on Tuesday 19 April 2016

Easter Assembly and Easter Bonnet Parade Rev Jonathan McNeany came to school today to share his thoughts about Easter with pupils, staff and parents. There were readings and songs by pupils, and the assembly culminated in everyone joining in a rendition of ’Kuk by yah’. This was followed by our Easter Bonnet Parade.

There were some wonderful creations on show. Well done children!
