Save the Albatross Albatross are beautiful animals. They have roamed the Southern Hemisphere for 50 million years. There are twenty- two species of Albatross but sadly eighteen of them are endangered. They are accidently killed by fishermen. When the longlines full of bait and hooks trail behind the boats, the birds follow them for the bait, get pulled under the waves and drown. The birds will go out for three to four days at a time to get food for their mate and young, but they may not come back. You can help. Congratulations Ruby! Well done to Ruby in Year 3 who stands proud to show off her personal copy of her Young Writers’ anthology containing her original piece of creative writing. Amazing achievement!

Oak-Tree Group of Schools Chess Tournament Many congratulations to our chess players who were victorious in the recent Oak-Tree Group of Schools Chess Tournament. Children from Coopersale, Oaklands and Normanhurst all played against each other. Well done to everyone who took part.

Netball Report by Aimee Regan On Wednesday 25 March Coopersale Hall netball team went to play at St Andrews School. We played Stapleford Abbotts, Chipping Ongar, St Andrews, Ivy Chimneys and Moreton. We had some great shots from Emily, Avni and Paige and some great defence work form the whole team. Overall we came fourth in our set. Well done team. Thank you to Mrs Watson, Tracy and all the parents for supporting us.

Bancroft’s Swimming Gala On Wednesday 22 April Coopersale Hall took part in the Bancroft’s Swimming Gala. There were many notable achievements as the pupils swam brilliantly in both the individual and relay races. In the individual events Coopersale Hall qualified for four of the finals out of seven races, with Ava 2nd in the Year 3/4 Freestyle, Harrison 3rd Year 5/6 Freestyle, Mollie 4th Year 5/6 Butterfly and Sam 3rd in Year 3/4 Breaststroke. In the relay events we qualified for all five finals, finishing as follows; Year 3/4 Medley and Year 3/4 Freestyle 4th. Year 5/6 Medley Relay 2nd. Massive congratulations to the Year 5/6 Freestyle Team who won their event. The final race was the Squadron Relay which involves two pupils from Year 3, Year 4, Year 5 and Year 6. Incredibly this team produced an amazing swim to win the event. Well done to all of our Swimming Team who should be very proud of our twelve gold medals and finishing an amazing second overall in the Gala. Let’s All Do The Conga! In order to raise money for the Dream Factory, the Early Years Department held a Coopersale Conga. All the children from Lower, Upper Kindergarten and Transition began with a long conga line around the school field and then made a huge circle for the Hokey Cokey.

The final dance was Superman, led by the dance teacher Miss Lucy. Despite the heavy black clouds, the rain held off and a good time was had by all.

Our Golden Boy gets the Golden Ball At the weekend I went to Bognor Regis for a football tournament, there were 64 teams. The hotel we stayed in was Butlins. When we arrived, we went to check out our room it was awesome. We had a TV and a bunk bed. When my friend Zac arrived, we went for dinner. I had a burger and chips and for dessert I had ice-cream and chocolate sauce. After that I went to the arcade. I won 300 tickets. The day had finally come where we played our first three matches. I got to be captain. The first match we got beaten 3-0, the second match I scored 4 goals, the third match we lost 3-1. Everyone’s heads were dropping. The day after we played the team that had not conceded a goal yet. I scored 2 goals by half time. In the end we lost 3-2. The last game we drew 3-3. Later that day it was the golden ball time and I won it. Ronnie O’Sullivan - Year 3

Dressage Competition On Tuesday 7 April Harrison and Imogen took part in the NSEA Dressage Competition at Norton Heath Equestrian Centre. They were the youngest competitors by far and competed against 18 year olds. In a very strong field they both did amazingly well with Harrison coming a fabulous 13th in his section and Imogen 15th. The next day Imogen took part in an Eventer Trial where they are asked to jump a set of show jumps and then a very technical cross country course. She did really well again coming 20th in a field of 75 and 25th in a field of 95. It was so exciting to have Coopersale represented at both events and both Harrison and Imogen were complimented on their lovely riding and ponies .

Thank You A big thank you to everyone for your very kind donations that were sent in recently. £321.88 was raised in the Cake Sale for the Nepal earthquake disaster. £59 was raised for the Early Years Conga that goes to the Dream Factory.

Year 3 Visit Epping Forest Field Centre On Wednesday 29 April, Year 3 went on a trip to the Epping Forest Field Centre. Everyone enjoyed a lovely day, although a bit wet, but still managed to take part in lots of different activities. Below are some quotes from the children after they returned. During the morning we used our senses to hear, smell, feel and see. We tried to identify the different kinds of trees; they were Oak, Silver Birch and Beech. In the afternoon we learned how to use a compass. We had to hold it flat on our hand, put it close to our body and put ‘Red Fred in the Bed’ to set the bearings with the blue arrow index line. Emaad Shah

We went on a compass trail – everyone didn’t get lost! We found the wrong outside classroom. The compass trail word was ‘Epping Forest’. Luca Gabrielli

We visited the Epping Forest Study Centre. During the morning we used our senses like what we could hear, smell, feel and see. I heard the birds singing and I smelt the fresh air. In the afternoon we played a game called Compass Trail. We learnt how to use a compass. It was a little bit confusing but we did it and we unscrambled the code! Scarlett Keeble

During the afternoon we went on a compass trail. We had to set our bearings on our compasses before setting off. I loved our trip. Uma Vijh We talked about the most common habitats. They are grassland, woodland, fresh water and lowland heath. Charlotte Whale We went outside in the rain and played a rain cloud game. Then we went into the forest and Amy showed us how to identify trees. We recognised Beech, Silver Birch and Oak trees. Arwen Phillips We went off in the forest in our groups and began our compass trail. Half way round we met the girls and had our photos taken. Ronnie O’Sullivan

FOCHS Update Unfortunately, and with great disappointment, we have had to cancel Pamper Night due to lack of interest. For those who did put in their treatment requests and payment for tickets, you will of course be refunded. We will be meeting in the library after drop-off next Tuesday 19 May, and

would love you to join us and let us have your thoughts about future events that might garner more support. We really want to be able to continue to raise funds to enhance our childrens' school experience, and give parents the opportunity to be more involved with school life, and we really need your help and support to be able to do so. In the meantime we look forward to seeing you at Tuck Shop, soon to incorporate Ice Cream Friday (weather permitting!) Please don't hesitate to get in touch with us either in person around school or email on [email protected].

Karate Champions! On Saturday 9 May both Melissa and Charlie Ward took part in the finals of the Junior Karate League Competition at North Weald. Melissa is one of three girls in the ‘Angels’ team. After a very close contest they came runners up in the league. Fabulous Result! Charlie plays for the ‘Gladiators’ in a team of two. Charlie and his team mate Josh worked really hard and came third in the Championship. Fantastic Result! Well done to both Melissa and Charlie for their great success.

First in Great Britain Under 11 Girls Squash - by Brooke Smith I played in a Squash Tournament in Colchester Garrison. It was the last Grand Prix Tournament of the year. If I won the competition I would get to train with professional players. My first match was against Anna Daniel, she was from my club so I knew how she played. It was easy to play against her, I won the first set 11-1 and the second set 11-0. Then I played my last game which was quite hard. I won the first set 11-8 and then the second 11-5. After the tournament had finished there was a presentation and I got the Winner’s Certificate and the Champion Award. Because I was overall winner I now get to train with the professional players which I am really looking forward to. Well done Brooke for such a fantastic achievement.
