History

• Gucci is an Italian fashion and leather goods label.

• It is owned by the French Company Pinault-Printemps-Redoute (PPR).

• It was founded by Guccio Gucci in Florence in 1921, started with a small leather accessories shop for both the genders.

• In the late 1980s, Gucci became one of the world's most influential fashion houses and a highly profitable business operation.

History

• In 1989, Maurizio join the Gucci Group as Executive Vice President and Creative Director Worldwide.

• In the early 1990s, Gucci underwent what is now recognized as the poorest time in the company's history. The company’s new accessories failed to pick up the slack, and for the next three years the company experienced heavy losses and teetered on the edge of bankruptcy. The management again changed and Tom Ford took over the position of Maurizio join and made a whole new image of Gucci.

• In October 1995, Gucci went public and had its first initial public offering on the AMEX and NYSE for $22 per share.

• American Motors Corporation: Aldo Gucci expanded into new markets including an agreement with American Motors Corporation (AMC). The 1972 and 1973 AMC Hornet compact "Sportabout" station wagon became one of the first American cars to offer a special luxury trim package created by a famous fashion designer.

• General Motors: In 1979 and 1980, a Miami-based aftermarket company offered the Cadillac Seville by Gucci edition.

The Social Responsibility

• Gucci has had a partnership with UNICEF since 2005. Gucci stores worldwide donate a percentage of the sales for special collections made specifically for UNICEF to go toward the United Nations Children's Fund.

• The annual Gucci Campaign to Benefit UNICEF supports education, healthcare, protection and clean water programs for orphans and children affected by HIV/AIDS in sub-Saharan Africa.

The Social Responsibility

• For the campaign in 2009, Michael Roberts promoted a children's book, "Snowman in Africa" with proceeds going to UNICEF.

• Gucci is the largest corporate donor to UNICEF's "Schools for Africa" that was established in 2004 by UNICEF, the Nelson Mandela Foundation, and the Hamburg Society. Its goal is to increase access to basic schooling for all, with a special emphasis on children orphaned by HIV/AIDS and children living in extreme poverty.

• 1944: Lala Kailashpat Singhania took over The Raymond Woollen Mill. The mill was primarily making cheap and coarse woollen blankets, and modest quantities of low priced woollen fabrics.

• 1958 - The first exclusive Raymond Retail showroom, King's Corner, was opened in 1958 at Ballard Estate in Bombay.

– J. K. Trust Gram Vikas Yojana (JKTGVY) launched in 1997 helps transfer of the technical expertise gained over three decades to the grass-root level. The mission of this initiative is to significantly improve the quality of life in India’s rural areas through a “Cattle Breed Improvement Programme”. This initiative operates in a network of over 700 Integrated Livestock Development Centre in Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Andhra Pradesh; and

– Raymond Rehabilitation Centre has been set-up for the welfare of under-privileged children at Jekegram, Thane. This initiative enables less fortunate children to be self-sufficient in life. The three-month vocational courses comprise of basic training in electrical, air-conditioning & refrigeration, plumbing, etc.

Armani Hotels and Resorts

• In May 2005 Giorgio Armani S.p.A. signed an agreement with Emaar Properties to create a series of Armani Hotels & Resorts. Under the terms of this agreement Giorgio Armani undertook responsibility for originating and implementing design concepts that would define the style and mood of a new international chain of hotels, resorts and luxury residences scheduled to open in the world's leading cities and tourist destinations. The first of these Armani hotels opened in Dubai in May 2010, and will be followed by another in Milan in 2010.
