Compact Class Cold PlanerThe main approach for road maintenance is to provide best road conditions for

safe and comfortable driving in all weather conditions.

Cold planers are developed to remove asphalt and concrete pavement in layers

by a rotating milling drum. The milled material may be transported via conveyor

on a truck for further recycling processes, spread on-site or stockpiled to the rear

for further application. The cold milling operation has turned out to be the most

effective and economic way for road maintenance.

Cold Planer PL 500/16 S and PL 500/20 SHighly manouvrable, hydraulically powered compact planers with a quick release rear conveyor, and four wheel drive unit with traction control (PL500/16S 4-wheel drive optional). The planers have been developed for removing asphalt pavements up to a cutting depth of 160 or 200 mm at 500 mm cutting width. Due to it´s high manoeuvrability, both units are flexible to use, even for cutting around man hole covers. The cutting drum transmission of the PL500/16S is designed as a hydraulically driven one, the PL500/20S transmission is driven mechanically.

Cold Planer PL 600/30 SPowerful, highly manoeuvrable, hydraulically powered deep-cut compact planer with mechanically driven cutting drum. The four wheel drive unit with anti-spin control system (ASC) is equipped with a quick release rear loading system. The planer has been developed for removing paving strips and for all other milling applica-tions in asphalt or concrete up to a cutting depth of 300 mm at a working width of 600 mm.

Cold Planer PL 1000 RSPowerful, highly manoeuvrable, hydraulically powered medium-sized planer with mechanically driven cutting drum, four wheel drive unit with anti spin control system (ASC). Completely equipped with a quick release rear loading system (standard) the planer has been developed for cost effective removing of road pavements on medium and larger job sites up to a cutting depth of 250 mm at a working width of 1000 mm.

The cutting drum

The cutting drum of PL600/30S features a cutting width of 600 mm at its maximum cutting depth of 300 mm. The PL 1000 RS offers 1000 mm cutting width at max 250 mm cutting depth, the PL500/16S and the PL500/20S offer a cutting width of 500 mm at a maximum cutting depth of 160 mm resp. 200 mm.Except for PL1000RS with its standard “KPF 303” quick change toolholder system, the“KPF 201” is standard on all Compact Class Planers. Standard spacing is 15 mm, for special demands fine mill-ing drums can be supplied as a customer option.

The operator’s control station

This clearly arranged dashboard with waterproof switches and gauges is easy to understand. Equipped with a fully adjustable steering wheel and a slidable driver´s seat, these machines can be adapted to each job condition. Level-ling of the machine is done manually by means of 2 levers, electronic levelling systems can be attached at interfaces , which are available as standard. An ergonomic operator panel on the right side of driv-ers seat - offered as a standard feature - allows very comfortable work. All electrical fuses are in the operator´s view of vision and a separate parking brake com-pletes a fully equipped operating system.

The key development objectives and challenges facing the new generation of Dynapac Compact Plan-ers arose from increasingly demanding customer requirements on performance rating, combined with improved cost-effectiveness in this special range of planers.Dynapac drew on its experience from the early days of modern cold planer construction to meet the latest requirements for the new Dynapac compact planer range. These vehicles are capable of removing asphalt and concrete across a profiling width between 500 and 1000 mm at a maximum cutting depth of 300 mm. The hydrostatically driven 3- or 4-wheeled planers are equipped with a rear discharge con-veyor system of different lengths and a cutting drum driven mechanically by powered belts (PL500/16 S hydraulically driven). Practical standard equipment and a range of options combined to make your Com-pact Planer Range one of the most capable in the latest generation of medium cold planers.

The engine

All of the Compact Class Planers are equipped with well known Cummins engines at different power supply of 74 kw - 129 kw.The Quantum Electronic System (except 4BT 4,5 engine of PL500/16 S) - the same electronic platform used on all Cummins electronic engines - guarantees compliance with the latest emission regulations at lowest possible fuel consumption.(As an engine protection a diagnostic system is included in the electronic system.)

The propulsion system

To ensure best traction on even loose or wet ground the all-wheel drive of the Compact Planers is equipped with a traction control system with anti-slip function and differential lock function, resp. flow deviding func-tion on PL500/16S.The operator can choose between working- and travelling speed to lower the time of moving to different job sites. In case of emergency or when parking the machine, a spring type multi disk brake can easily be activated.

CHARACTERISTICS

The levelling systemDue to customers demands electronic feedback control systems are avail-able, which control and monitor the cutting depth of the planer. By that these systems enable the Dynapac planers to compensate for uneven areas of ground and to comply with preset nominal values. This system receives its input from wire rope, slope etc..The standard interface offers scope for connecting up a slope sensor. As an alternative Dynapac offers the Mobamatic or the Topcon system.

AccessibilityFor service and maintenance it is very important to offer machines with spacious room for accessing e.g. batteries, filters and drains.The design of the Compact Planer range fulfills this demand: wide open-ing covers and doors offer excellent accessibility to points of daily control like the water filter of the bit cleaning /dust preventing system, which is standard on these planers.

The rear conveyor systemDue to the new designed swivel mounted rear discharge conveyor spilling is avoided and ensures - even at maximum cutting depth - loading of the milled material onto largest trucks. The speed of the conveyor belt can be adjusted in an infinitely variable manner, hydraulical height adjustment is standard. Besides a 1mtr long conveyor for loading milled material into a wheel loader bucket - available for PL500/16S and PL500/20S - two differ-ent long-size conveyors are offered optionally. A mechanically foldable conveyor is in preparation.

The cutting radiusThe small cutting radius of the new Dynapac compact range allows accurate and fast cutting around man holes and guarantees high manoeuvrability in confined areas.

The foldable right rear legTo manage cutting along walls, fences or hedges the Compact Planer range is equipped with a foldable right rear leg as standard. It allows to run the planers very close to curbs and other fences along the pavement. As an option the folding can be operated hydraulically.

Serviceability by a world wide service netThe hinged doors of the Compact Planer range can be opened widely to enable an optimised access to all machine components for maintenance and service. On the 500 - series batteries and water pump/filter are located behind a front flap, for easy access, just close to the water tank.

The toolholder systemThis range of Cold Planers is equipped as standard with the well proven quick change tool holder system Kennametal KPF 201 and KPF 303 (op-tion on PL600/30S). The forward attack design of the sleeves is designed for a long life time even under toughest milling conditions. If tool holder replacement on the job site is necessary, changing of the bolt-less sys-tem is easily done. welding or recutting of threads is not necessary. The matching taper system ensures no movement between the base and the hardened sleeve and makes it to be a simple and the most economi-cal quick change system for road milling machines.

The patented front axle suspensionThis new parallelogram - design front axle type for the Dynapac 4-wheel planers always ensures full ground contact of the front wheels in case of a height difference between left and right front wheel.This patented technique offers the important advantages of better trac-tion, less wear on the rubber tires and – additionally - more precise driv-ing and steering.

water tankAll machines of this planer range are equipped with water tanks for the standard spray system, which prevents from dust and reduces wear on the bits. The water tanks with their wide filling neck for quick refill and a level indicator in drivers view are corrosion free. The big tank volume of 1100 ltr. of water on the PL1000 RS and PL600/30 S lowers refilling cycles and ensures a long and uninterrupted time of work. Tank volume of the PL500 variants is 400 ltr.
