The mission of Early Childhood Family Education (ECFE) is to “Grow healthy families

through the education and support of all families in providing the best possible

environment for the healthy growth and development of their children.”

ECFE recognizes that families provide children their first and most important learning

environment and that parents are the children’s first and most significant teachers.

Classes hosted by ECFE will meet in

Fall, Winter and Spring. You are

welcome to join us for any number of

terms, and registration will occur

prior to the start of each term.

LCWM Community Education is a part

of the LCWM School District. The

Community Education office is located

at LCWM Secondary School.

Community Education courses and

programs are primarily hosted at

LCWM School facilities, but also occur

at other community facilities. Be sure

to check the location of your program

Spring Carnival

Join us for an evening of family fun! This annual event is sure to be a blast once again. There will be games and prizes in the LCARC gym!

DADDY, DAUGHTER DANCE (Preschool - Grade 5)

Just in time for Valentine’s Day! Show that little girl how special she is by taking her to the Annual Daddy, Daughter Dance. This night will make any daughter feel like a princess and every father smile ear to ear!

LAKE CRYSTAL AREA COMMUNITY BAND

For 30 years, the Lake Crystal Area Commu-nity Band has provided free local concerts to community members. The band also plays at the Lake Crystal Memorial Day Service.

Practices begin in April and continue through May. The Memorial Day Service is their first concert for the season. Throughout the month of June and July, the band provides free con-certs at local community venues.

Band members are needed! If you are in-terested in becoming a band member, please contact Lois Davis at 507-726-2747 or contact the Community Ed. Office at 507-726-2673.

EARLY CHILDHOOD

SCREENING Screening is a quick and simple check of how your

child is doing at age 3-4 years. During the screen-

ing, well-qualified staff will check your child’s vi-

sion, hearing, growth, immunization

status, skills in thinking, communication and

language, large and small motor skills and social/

emotional development.

The screening is FREE OF CHARGE.

Children are required to have had an early

childhood screening done prior to entering

kindergarten.

JUST TODDLING… TOGETHER

Evening Class

Parents and their toddlers play together in a room

full of toddler learning activities. You will participate

together in a teacher led circle time, full of music

and movement appropriate for your busy toddler.

Parents will have the opportunity to discuss par-

enting joys and challenges of raising a toddler, in

addition to issues of interest to the group. A parent

educator will facilitate discussion time, while your

child will enjoy play directed by the early childhood

teacher and assistant.

ty to discuss parenting issues with a parent

facilitator.

Evening Class

Parents and children are learning, exploring, and having lots of fun together in this class. Each week brings something new and different such as professional presenters, cooking, field trips, and of course lots of opportunities to play together in the preschool classroom which is set up specifically for you and your preschoolers. Class is taught by an Early Childhood Professional. Parents and children will always separate for this class. Ages can be somewhat flexible.

A fun, openly structured recreation program for children ages 5-12 years. Weekly activities call attention to important social and intellectual skills to promote individual growth and re-

spect for others. Children are given time to play, explore, and learn in a caring environment. All dates are consistent with LCWM Dist. 2071 no school, late start, and early out dates with the exception of major holidays. If school closes on an unscheduled date due to weather or

other emergency, Fit Kids will close also.

POLAR ADVENTURE

(Grades K-5)

The chilly weather is nothing for these cool creations. Craft a clay polar bear, a stone penguin, paint a sled dog and use a sock to make a cute seal.

This class is for beginners and intermediate players who want to learn the game or improve their current chess skills. Each week, you will be paired with another player to play chess while the instructor gives you tips on how to im-proved your game.

Through a series of practices and games against other boys and girls in your age-group, you will get a chance to learn the basics of the world’s most popular game.

Game Dates: April 19, April 24, April 26, May 3, May 8 and May 10 (make-up day - May 12)

YOUTH SOCCER

(Grades 4-6)

Join the soccer club to build on the fundamentals of the game and to be able to play a little more competitively as a team. Our purpose is to promote good sportsmanship, teamwork, achievement, excellence, self-confidence and fun for players and their families through the game of soccer.

Uniforms: Purchase required for new players Jersey only—$35; Full uniform—$55

Practices: Begin April 9 (tentatively set for Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays 5:30-7 p.m.) Practices can change based on coach availability.

Games: Begin in May and run through June 16. Light travel is required. Games are played Mon.-Sat. We will play communities such as: Comfrey, Madelia, St. Peter, New Ulm, etc.

HOME ALONE

(Grades 3-6)

Staying home alone for the first time is an opportunity eagerly anticipated by most kids. However, with opportunity comes responsibility. This course covers a variety of common sce-narios and topics specific to children preparing to stay home alone or with younger siblings. Topics include, but not limited to: sibling con-flict, stranger danger, healthy choices, basic first aid, and identifying emergencies. Course format will use storybooks, discus-sions, fun quizzes, and hands on exercises!

HIGH SCHOOL DRIVER’S ED

This course is designed to prepare the first-time driving student with the information and knowledge required to pass the Minnesota Driver’s permit test and the Minnesota Class D Driver’s License test. This class requires the student to complete 30 hours of classroom instruction and 6 hours of behind the wheel instruction. These hours are mandated by law if a student under the age of 18 is to acquire a Driver Permit or License.

Students will learn the latest welding skills that Southern Minnesota industrial companies are seeking from qualified welding applicants. Skills include: welder set-up, welding gun maintenance, metal prepara-tion, basic welded joints and weld evaluation. RAIN GARDENS

Homeowners are using rain gardens to add curb appeal to their homes while protecting lakes. Rain gardens are made up of colorful plantings in a shallow depression. The plants’ roots clean storm water and help it soak in to the ground instead of rushing into the storm water system. Wet & Wild—A moderate to high inten-

sity class that focuses on 30-45 minutes of cardio, up to 15 minutes of strength/toning and up to 15 minutes of abdominal exercises.

Aqua Fit—A lower intensity class con-
