We spotted this photo of President Kanthan

Pillay in what used to be the railway station

at the town halfway between Bloemhof and

Christiana. Pic taken by his wife, Sarah.

He has always had a fascination for railways.

Read this amazing article… and learn about

his passion for railway lines.

future-rut.

Please share your special holiday pics with us.

It doesn’t seem too long ago that folks

were splashing out on expensive wines

and menus to celebrate the new

millennium….and that was 15 years

ago!

President Kanthan Pillay and the

club’s board wish all our members and

their families a very inspiring and

healthy 2015.

Don’t look back...you're not going

there! Look at what we can achieve as

Rotarians.

A new year is like a blank book...let’s

write a story and ensure that every

chapter benefits 100s of people.

Covenant Garden Estate receives a wonderful

Xmas gift.

Covenant Garden Estate receives a wonderful Xmas gift.

Noma Mbeki donated a VITO (seen below) to Covenant Garden Estate - Noma is seen chatting to Rotarian Sue Paget earlier this year ….and

now the Estate has wheels!

Rotarians Win Bauer and

Annemarie Mostert harvested

the first crops in the tunnel

garden.

Thank you to Nelis at AdValue Print, No 1 Main Road,

Melville who donated the

branding wrap on the

Mercedes Benz Vito

Rotarians Tara Ison, Judith Chinkumbi and Annemarie Mostert staying in touch with Covenant Garden Estate. Great garden under tunnels.

Rtn Shirley Downie called Annemarie about distributing many rakes and different shapes and sizes of spades….they were all brand new and they were given to Judith to take to the

project.

Rotary Club of Kirstenbosch hosted the

annual Xmas Carols at Kirstenbosch

Gardens. Over 9000 members from the

community attend this picnic event.

Its hosted over 4 evenings. PE

Annemarie Mostert & hubby PP Hans

attended this outstanding fundraising

event.

They also sell Xmas puddings to raise

funds. Great Rotary branding and

exposure.

For a holiday, some people go to the beach, some to the mountains and others to museums….

in Franschoek in the Cape.

The Franschoek Motor Museum offers visitors a special opportunity to look back at more

than 100 years of motoring history with its unique and exciting collection of vehicles,

motorcycles, bicycles and memorabilia in the magnificent setting of L’Ormarins. Across the

length and breadth of Southern Africa, only one place can adequately portray the evolution of

the automobile, The Franschoek Mo-

tor Museum.

One of our Rotarians spotted this

logo on the beautiful SS100 1938

Jaguar displayed at one of the largest

Motor Museums in the world, in

Franschoek. Over 100 000 tourists

visit this famous museum annually.

Part of Rotary Awareness month is to

ensure we display Rotary Interna-

tional in a good way. Please share

interesting displays of Rotary’s

involvement with logos in the

community on our facebook page.

D9400 needs 160 new members to reach our goal!

Time to focus on our Membership Goal –both for D9400 and our club. As Rotarians, one of our

jobs, perhaps the most important job, is to help recruit new members.

New members keep our clubs interesting and enthusiastic. They could help us carry on the

work which we have established to help our community. In addition, they provide additional

eyes to help us identify compelling community needs. New members mean new friends and

greater enjoyment for all. Accordingly, let us seek out and find those first rate people who are

busy and successful and invite them to a meeting of our Rotary Clubs.

Why is membership growth important for Rotary?

Membership growth increases Rotary’s capacity for service.

New Rotarians bring fresh ideas, new interests, and increased energy to clubs.

More members increase the volume of support for The Rotary Foundation.

Diversity in membership ensures that the club is relevant to the entire community.

Service-minded individuals are given the opportunity to help their communities through

Rotary.

More members create a larger network for both local and international fellowship.

New and younger members ensure the future of Rotary and its work.

How strong is my club?

Assess your club regularly to learn what works and what doesn't. Ask yourself: Do your

members reflect the diverse professions and cultures in your community? Are you achieving

your club’s goals? What qualities make your club attractive to new members?

How do I find new members?

Rotarians join and stay with their clubs primarily because they seek opportunities for

community service, fellowship, and friendship. Many of the non-Rotarians you know are

looking for the same things. Invite them to help with your service projects, attend a

networking night, or participate in a club get-together and help them see for themselves how

Rotary connects leaders to make a positive change.

Here are some potential candidates to consider for membership:

· Friends and family members

· Business acquaintances

· Professional colleagues

· Younger community leaders who are already connected to Rotary through Rotaract,

RYLA, peace fellowships, Youth Exchange, and other programs.

Prospective member information session

Invite club members to share their experiences, talk about your club’s service projects and

social activities, and give an overview of Rotary.

Please share interesting signs that you may

have seen...

WOOL IS NEEDED….

Shirley Downie has crocheted another two blankets for Baby behind Bars — but in order

to do more, she needs wool. So if you have any spare wool, please call Shirley on

083 308 0042.

HUMANITARIAN CENTRE

The Centre for books, linen, slippers, soaps, towels, and odd

and sods will re-open on 13 January.

Please encourage schools, old age homes, nursery schools etc

to collect books etc—there is no charge at all!

Job Creation for a sustainable future! Le Fleur, one of the projects supported by members of the E Club, has recently venture into the World of Fashion. Rotarian Robyn Le Roux is managing this sewing project. Her passion and drive have created various sustainable job. One of the E Club’s partners, Sesego Cares has donated R200k towards the sewing project.

President 2014-15

January 2015

At the beginning of this Rotary year, I asked Rotarians everywhere to Light Up Rotary by hold-ing a Rotary Day. How you do this is something I'm leaving up to you: It can be a full day or just a few hours. It can be organized by your club, by your district, or even across your entire coun-try. It can be a service project, a festival, or any kind of event you want. As long as it's open to the community, embraces the whole family of Rotary, and is fun, it's a Rotary Day.

The goal of a Rotary Day is to shine a light on Rotary. For many years, we in Rotary felt that it wasn't appropriate to boast about our good work. We felt it was best to serve quietly and let our work speak for itself. But today, in many communities, people aren't even aware that they have a local Rotary club. Not because the clubs aren't strong, or because they aren't serving well. They are. But if Rotarians don't talk about their work, people will never know about it.

It is time for us to Light Up Rotary and let people know what we are doing. In the first half of this Rotary year, I've been thrilled to see how many Rotarians have taken up my Rotary Day challenge. I've attended Rotary Days in so many places, including the Philippines, Korea, China, the United States, Turkey, India, Taiwan, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh. Every one has been different, and every one has met the challenge to Light Up Rotary in its own way.

If you've organized a Rotary Day in your community, tell us about it: Email details and photos of your event to [email protected], with "Rotary Day" as your subject line. We'll do our best to feature as many Rotary Days as possible in the coming months. And if you haven't planned a Rotary Day yet, why not? It's a great way to share your love for Rotary with your com-munity. When we tell others about Rotary and let them know how membership can enrich their lives, we share a gift that was giv-en to us when we were invited to join our clubs. By passing that gift on, we help ensure that Rotary, and its service, will endure -
