Dear members:

!Being elected President of OCOD is both humbling and daunting. With over

200 talented individuals in the club, I am honored to be selected to lead our

group for this year. At the same time, our expanding membership and

programs brings many challenges in addition to ongoing efforts to purchase

our training center.

!It’s important to remember that everything we do, every class that’s taught,

every trial we hold, depends upon our members for two vital requirements -

volunteer time and co-operation. These elements are the currency that built

the club – and are the most valuable assets we possess. And our need for

volunteer time and co-operation will continue to grow as the club grows.

!The January general meeting will be multi-purpose and I will be sending

separate emails with further information. It will be an open house, a review

of our activities, and, of course, we will spend time hearing from our trial

directors for the upcoming agility trial. We will also spend some time talking

about our own agility program.

!I hope every member will be able to attend this first meeting of 2016 and get

the new year off to a good start.

Easy Work, High Pay!!Of all the dog sports, agility is the one that most demands a true partnership between handler and dog, with lightning-quick decisions and well-timed cues to navigate a challenging course completely unknown to the dog before he steps to the start line. !If you are already part of this fast-paced sport—performing at trials, coming to class at Silver Sands or to the foundation class at the training center—you know how enjoyable and rewarding it is, right from the start. !If you’re not familiar with the sport, there’s a wonderful opportunity in store for you: OCOD’s annual three-day agility trial, coming Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, January 29-30-31, 2016. And the way to have the most fun is to volunteer to help. !We’ll need course builders to position the obstacles, gate stewards to ensure the classes run smoothly, scribes to note the judges’ signals, and timers to man the electronic timing machines. We’ll need people to set jump bars, carry leashes from the start line to the finish, and take score sheets to the trial secretary for tallying. !None of these jobs requires a PhD or even any agility experience, and all can be mastered after a quick briefing. !And the pay is good! For every class you work, you’ll receive a $2 coupon good for food at our food vendor or entry in a future OCOD agility trial, plus a ticket for the worker’s raffle—in which you can winvaluable gift cards and other nice stuff. We have received word that Pat Chesley, a long time member of OCOD has passed away. Pat

was one of our Puppy class instructors for several years. She gave up her membership

when her health started failing. Those that knew her will miss her beautiful smile and warm heart.

The December General Meeting was our annual Awards & Christmas Banquet at the Daytona Beach Kennel Club. !A brief meeting was held with the reading of 2 new member applications. 8. THE OBEDIENCE CLUB OF DAYTONA’S TRAINING DIRECTOR(S) RESERVES the right and option of refusing training to any dog or handler. This is to include classes, ring use, building use and/or any club event such as seminars, tests, trials and matches. Such dog or handler may not attend any function leased to another club in the training building without written consent from Training Director(s).

A.. ANY DOG WHICH BECOMES AGGRESSIVE OR DISRUPTIVE TOWARDS OTHER DOGS OR PEOPLE WILL BE DISMISSED “ at will”

1. The Training Director, or Instructor, at his/her discretion, reserves the right to dismiss any dog from class without a refund. If your dog is not under control and/or presents a danger to others, you will be dismissed from classes.

B. ALL DICIPLINE,CHARGES, ELPULSION, AND BOARD HEARINGSWhen a dog or person is dismissed by an Instructor or Training Director a reinstatement application and $50 may be presented by the owner within 30 days of the incident to the Board of Directors, Training Director, and the Instructor involved. All parties will present their documents. Prior evidence of recent successful training, and records of dog will be evaluated. If the committee decides to allow the dog to return to class owner will be asked to provide current rabies vaccine and personal liability insurance for owner and dog. After thorough examination of facts of dog, or handlers eligibility a final notice will be sent to owner. Only one request for reinstatement will be processed for owner or dog. Decision will stand.
