A city map is a graphic representation of a city with it´s streets, neighbourhoods, squares, rivers and big buildings.
There are 3 different types of mapsOrtogonal map:
In the form of a grid Easy to make maps from Easy to divide the city in
different parts Because every street has a
perpendicular angle its easy to construct builings.
It doesn´t adapt to the differences in height.
Poor visibility at the different crossings of roads
Radio centrical map
It has one central point. The streets and roads are positioned around the center in a circular form.
Easy communication with the outskirts of the city.
Easy to adapt to differences in height of the city
It´s difficult for cars to move through the city. They always have to cross the center.
Irregular map
There is no geometrical form
The streets and roads are positioned without a clear plan.
You can find alleys without an exit
Usually found in old historical city centers
Difficult for trafic to move around
You will find big open spaces as, squares, gardens, parks etc.
Polders in The Netherlands A polder is a piece of
land surrounded by dykes and dried up to be used as farmland, to build new cities or even a whole new province.
The advantage is that you have a new piece of land that can be used and ordered the most practical.
The Netherlands has about 3000 polders
