CIS Road Closure

On Saturday, February 4, Camana Bay is hosting the annual street hockey tournament. Traffic will be restricted into the CIS/Sports Complex area.

Anyone who needs to be at the facility on Saturday is asked to park in the parking area at the roundabout before the school/sports complex (Minerva Parking Lot). This is indicated on the attached map as 89 Nexus Way Parking lot.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

CIS students travelled to Quito, Ecuador in January for their second

CAISSA Tournament. Two teams entered, a girls’ football and a boys’

basketball. They arrived a bit earlier than the tournament dates to adjust

to the altitude of 9300 ft.

The group took time to see the city and enjoy the scenery. They visited

Mitad del Mundo (Middle of the World) where the equator runs through

Quito. Once the fun was over, the games began.

Both teams won their first match/game giving them an extra boost of

energy and encouragement.

The girls’ football team finished second overall. They won four

games, drew one, and lost two. CIS defeated Academia Cotopaxi

(AC), the host school, twice. AC was the only team acclimated to

the high altitude. Natalie S won the Tournament MVP and Paige

B was chosen for the all-tournament team.

The boys’ basketball team finished 5th overall. They struggled

with the altitude and experience of the other schools. However,

they played their hearts out and were able to win two games, but

lost four.

CIS is proud to have such an amazing group of students represent us abroad. Congratulations to both

teams! A special thank you to our coaches, Greg S, Gisela G, Jayme F, and Colin C for accompanying

the teams and preparing them for the tournament.

Primary Football League Finals

In the U9 game, Coach Juan sent the Iguanas out in a 4-2-2 formation in an attempt to combat the Cayman

Prep attack which had caused problems down the attacking left. Delivering one of their best team perfor-

mances of the season, the boys worked tirelessly in support of each other and succeeded in keeping Cayman

Prep at bay. With the score tied 0-0 at the end of regulation and extra time, the result would be decided by

the cruelty of a penalty shoot out. Both sets of players showed their metal as the first three pairs of penalties

were dispatched with aplomb. Moving on to sudden death, a fantastic save of the Iguanas’ fourth effort (which

had seemed destined for the top corner) afforded Prep an opportunity to win the title for a fourth consecutive year.

The U11 team sought to exact revenge later in the day but struggled to find the form they had demonstrated

in their past few games and which they needed against one of the best PFL teams in recent years. They fell

behind early and Prep held a 3-0 lead just before half time. Jackson M thumped a penalty into the back of the

net with the last kick of the half and the team went into the second half with momentum. The Iguanas domi-

nated the opening stages of the second half and were exceptionally unlucky not to pull closer when both Liam

H and Jackson M were denied by good goalkeeping. A couple of additional Prep goals in quick succession gave

Prep an unassailable lead and the game finished 5-1.

The U11 Girls’ soccer team had a wonderful season! They played Triple C for third place. The final score was 0-1. It was a hard fought game, and the girls should be proud of themselves! They played with heart, showed team spirit on and off the field, and most importantly, had a lot of FUN! They committed to the team for 6 months… practicing twice a week, and playing games on most Saturdays. Going into the semi-finals, they hadn’t lost any games and were in first place, despite a tough bracket of teams. The girls stayed competitive throughout the season, and they also learned more about fitness, soccer skills, soccer posi-tions, sportswomanship, and teamwork. Hopefully next year, there will be even more girls interested in playing and having fun!!!

All teams deserve credit for a fantastic season and great teamwork to reach that far in the league. Congratulations to the entire squad and sin-

cere thanks to Coaches Mary, Julia, Greg, Juan, GG and Ian L for their commitment to the teams this year.

Middle School Counseling Corner National Drugs and Alcohol Facts Week

The Cayman Islands National Drug Council has encouraged schools across the Island to get students involved in working together to unravel the myths surrounding Drugs and Alcohol. Middle School students took a Kahoot quiz in their homeroom classes this week and learned about contests put out by the Cayman Islands National Drug Council in support of this focus. Ms. Kim will be in classes next week to lead discussions surrounding this important topic including peer pressure, alcohol and drugs. Please use this as an opportunity to talk with your kids about these important issues and contact Ms. Kim with any questions/concerns. Additional information/resources can be found at the fol-lowing website: http://www.ndc.ky/.

with Natalie S.

What is your taste in music? Favorite song of all time, favorite at the moment?

-I like all types and I try to listen to all different genres. My favorite song of all time would have to be Joey by Concrete Blonde.

Which is your favorite place on earth? Why?

-Cayman because I moved here thinking I would hate it, however after being here I never want to leave.

Do you want to be famous? Why/Why not?

-I would want to be famous for a few years to experience what it’s like, however I would want to be able to go back to being normal.

What is your dream job/career? Why?

-Being an actor. It would be cool to play different characters and act as different types of people.

What are your plans after you graduate from CIS?

-Go to university and hopefully find out what I want to do with my life.

I am originally from Vancouver, BC, Canada. I moved to Cay-man in 2013. I have two older brothers and one cat. My favor-ite activities include watching TV, going to the beach, and try-ing new restaurants.

I have been at CIS since my freshman year. I’m outgoing which allows me to connect with people and children. However I tend be very lazy and give up on tasks easily.
