Unintentional injury is the number one killer of America’s children; taking more lives than disease, violence and suicide.
Prevention is the cure. It is estimated that by taking these and other simple precautions, almost all (90%) of these unintentional injuries can be avoided.

Babies: Why Are They Especially At Risk??
Babies are totally dependent on adult caregiver.
Babies face a list of potential dangers; choking, drowning, falls, poisons, burns.
Each of these risks can be reduced or eliminated
Toddlers: Why are they at high risk??
They become mobile!!Crawling, Walking, Running!
Children age 1-4 can reach and do many things, yet they do not have the
judgment or skills to handle things safely.
Childproof Your Home
Childproofing your home involves looking at it in a new way.
Look at your home from your child’s point of viewHOW?
By crawling around on your hands and knees!
Supervise Your Children
Understand that childproofing is never 100% effective.
It is imperative that children are supervised at all times, especially around water, in the kitchen and in the bathroom bathroom

What Are Children At Risk From??
Deaths to children ages 14 and under in the home are typically attributed to the following causes:
Fire and flame burns
Drowning
Suffocation
Key Facts – Home Injury
•Fires, suffocation and drowning are the leading causes of unintentional home injury death among children in this age group.
Key Facts – Car Seat Safety
• Child safety seats and safety belts, when installed and used properly, can prevent injuries and save lives.
• Young children restrained in child safety seats have an 80% lower risk of fatal injury than those who are unrestrained.
Key Facts – Toy Related
• Each year, approximately 217,000 toy-related injuries are treated in hospital emergency rooms.
• Small play balls and balloons account for many choking deaths.
• Riding toys including un-powered scooters and tricycles are associated with more injuries than any other toy group.
