Presidents’ Day

• People celebrate by remembering our country’s presidents.

• How do you celebrate?

We are celebrating by learning about and remembering our presidents.

Our First President:

George Washington

• He was our first president. He was born in Virginia on February 22, 1732.

• Some people call Washington the “Father of Our Country”. Why might people call him that?

• George Washington is on the quarter and on the dollar. He has a monument built in his honor in Washington D.C. Below you will see a picture of the Washington Monument.

• George Washington was the first president of the United States. He was president for eight years. Washington worked hard to make Americans strong. With his help, the states learned to work together. Washington is often called “The father of His Country.”

Abe Lincoln

• Abraham Lincoln was our 16th president!

• He was born in Kentucky on February 12, 1809.

• He is on the front of the penny.

• He has a memorial in Washington D.C called the Lincoln Memorial.

• Abraham Lincoln was the 16th President of the United States of America. Soon after he became president, the civil war began. The war was between the northern and southern states. Lincoln worked hard to hold the country together. When the Civil War ended in 1865, the United States was still one country!

• He had a lot of pets. He had dots, cats, and goats. His cat Tabby was the first cat to line in the White House.

and Tad.• A little girl named Grace sent him a letter.

In the letter she asked him to grow a beard. She said his face would look better.

• Lincoln made the mountainous list for his unifying role during America’s Civil War.
