MŎKBAR

M ŏkbar, a ramen shop open from 11am to 11pm daily in

Chelsea Market, combines traditional Korean soups with

fresh Japanese ramen noodles for a unique noodle experience. In

Asia, eating noodles on-the-go is an everyday lifestyle. Mŏkbar

will bring that cultural experience to New York City by selling

ramen for take-out. Customers will enjoy comforting noodles

on-the-go while browsing Chelsea Market and enjoying the

city—in the office, or back at home.

Mŏkbar also offers a sit-down dining experience for lunch and

dinner where guests can watch the chefs prepare their meal in

front of them. Mŏkbar is excited to offer a special seasonal menu

and small Korean "anju" plates during the dinner hours as well.

Each dish has its own unique story but the chef, Esther Choi's

artisanal kimchi (fermented Korean pickles) holds a special place

in her heart. Kimchi is at the center of every Korean meal and has

amazing health benefits. It's loaded with vitamins A, B and C,

as well as healthy bacteria from the fermentation process, and is

incorporated into each ramen dish and small plate on Mŏkbar’s

menu. Mŏkbar customers can consume seasonal kimchi with

their meal, as well as purchase kimchi to enjoy at home. Learn

more at mokbar.com.

THE LOBSTER PLACE

A lot's been going on since The Lobster Place completed its

expansion and opened its sister restaurant, Cull & Pistol, last

year. CEO Ian MacGregor says, "we've steadily expanded our

product line, overhauled our grab-and-go menu with lots of

new salad and sandwich options, and started butchering whole

tunas." MacGregor is especially excited about re-branding The

Lobster Place's quick-service eatery (formerly known as 'The

Shack') as 'C&P Galley'. He says, "We wanted to reinforce the

relationship between The Lobster Place and Cull & Pistol, the

restaurant it inspired." This August 4-29 is great time to try

Cull & Pistol. They'll be featuring a $19.74 (the year The Lobster

Place opened) special on 1.5lb lobsters. While you're there, be

sure to check out C&P's new dessert and coffee options, as well

as NYC's best-curated selection of rum.

2014 marks the 40th anniversary for The Lobster Place. They're

celebrating all year long with specials and events, including

Lobster Stock, an off-site event in the Catskills on August 8

featuring live music and an enormous clambake. To learn more

about The Lobster Place, check out this video (http://vimeo.

TRENDING

You know how you've been doing something for years, and

then suddenly you read about it in The New York Times and

discover that your every-day awesomeness is now a national

trend? That's how we felt when read Florence Fabricant's piece,

"So Much Food, It Fills a Hall" (NYT, May 13, 2014). Indoor food

halls are nothing new, of course, but they used to be something

of a rarity outside of Europe. Now it seems no American city is

complete without one. From developing food halls like Ponce

City Market in Atlanta and Market Hall in Misson Bay to es-

tablished marketplaces like Chelsea Market and Faneuil Hall,

indoor food halls are suddenly all the rage.

"I love the fact that indoor food halls are 'trending'," says Mi-

chael Ginsberg, Chelsea Market’s Mayor Laureate and Events

Director. "Chelsea Market was founded on the principle that

food creates community. When Irwin Cohen developed Chelsea

Market back in the early '90's, he nurtured a collective of local

food manufacturers and artisans, and—in doing so—he enabled

an authentic food destination to grow organically. There's no

better way to bring people together than to offer them amazing

food in a local environment." Visit chelseamarket.com to learn

more about the Chelsea Market Cookbook, which is packed full

of information about Chelsea Market's evolution as a food hall.
