CHARACTERISATON

Page 2: Characterisaton

There are 4 ways that you can develop a “main” character in your narrative:1. What the character says… and how they say it

– Think: What does Lennie say? How does he say it? How do his statements, his vernacular and his“accent” SHOW you his character, values, abilities and passions?

2. What OTHER CHARACTERS say about the main character. – Think: Candy in Of Mice and Men… it is through what Candy says about

____________ ______________ that the audience develops an imageof Curly’s wife as being _________ _________________ ________________).

3. What the main character does! Their actions. Their reactions. Their moods. Their clothing choices and choices. The culture and social … etc.

4. The actual descriptions (by the writer / director / artist) in the text. Task: copy out two quotes from the opening pages of Of Mice and men which BEST show the CONTRASTING characters of George and Lennie.
