Twentieth Sunday in Ordinary Time

August 19, 2018

FOCUS: We grow in wisdom as we grow in our un-

derstanding of God.

Our human understanding limits us, and so Scripture and the Church provide teachings that help us to know, love and trust in God. In Jesus, we come to know the Father; and through Jesus, as the Bread of Life, we come to have eternal life.

LITURGY OF THE WORD: In the first reading, Wisdom has prepared her table for those seeking under-standing. In the reading from Ephesians, we are in-structed to live not as foolish persons but as wise. In the Gospel, Jesus tells the crowds that he is the bread from heaven, and that whoever eats of him will have eternal life.

REFLECTION: Wisdom takes flesh in Jesus, who

reveals God’s love and concern that we take in the right kind of nourishment. God says to us, "I see your hun-gers that only I can fully satisfy. I send you my Son, Receive the food and drink he offers you – his very self." Like Wisdom in Proverbs, Jesus sets a table and invites us to be nourished on himself, "true food... true drink."

So we ask ourselves:

How would you describe your spiritual life... Satisfying? Malnourished? Starving?

What do you do and where do you go to feed your spirit?

PASTOR: Rev. Char les E. Bonner

PASTOR EMERITUS: Rev. Msgr. Francis X. Dreger

PAROCHIAL VICAR: Rev. Rober t Lucas

PERMANENT DEACON: Deacon Patr ick Diamond

PRINCIPAL: Sister Jane Mary Carr , IHM

VICE PRINCIPAL: Sister Patr icia Healey, IHM

Charismatic Prayer Group Do you have an immediate prayer need or can you offer the gift of prayer? The ‘People of Love’ Prayer Group meets every Monday evening at 7:30PM in the Cecilian Room. You are always welcome to join us and renew your Spirit.

Aid For Friends Our client-friends do not take summer vacations; most don’t even leave their homes. This is why they count on meals every day, even during the summer. Please remember them and set aside an extra portion of your meal, freeze it in the trays we provide, and bring them to the freezer located in the alcove between the rectory and church. For information on how you can help, please call Bernadette O’Donnell at 215-379-3448.

FREEZER HOURS:

Monday to Friday 8:30am—6:00pm Saturday & Sunday 8:30am—4:00pm

State of Vocations - Facebook Live! On Thursday, August 23 at 7:00pm, the Vocation office for the Diocesan Priesthood will be hosting the Second Annu-al State of Vocations Address via Facebook Live! This event will help the clergy and lay faithful see how they can cooperate with our Office in creating an atmosphere in their homes, schools, parishes and communities that fos-ters and encourages vocations and assists young men in answering God’s call.

St. Cecilia Parish Ministries

Lectors The ministry of reader calls us to be servants of the Living Word of God. In proclaiming the readings at Liturgy, the reader does more than simply read. A reader’s spirituality must include an understanding of Holy Scripture as God’s Living Word made present to mankind throughout history, but made fully present in the person of Jesus Christ, the Word made Flesh. Our volunteers use their talents to spread the Word of God on Sundays, Holydays and for all our Special Liturgies.

On Sunday, September 23rd, after the 8:00am, 9:30am, and 11:00am Masses, everyone is invited to the Auditorium for a ‘Sunday—Meet & Greet’ where you may enjoy fellowship with other parishioners, breakfast treats, and meet members of our parish min-istries.

Please mark your calendar and join us.
