Setting the Context: Black Deaths Matter
- 11.5 percent of people over age 50 have lost a child. The figure is far higher among blacks (16.7 percent) than whites (10.2).
- Black adults were more than 2.5 times as likely as white adults to lose a child by age 30 (4.9% of black respondents, 1.8% of white respondents).
- Black adults are four times more likely to lose a child when respondents were between the ages of 50 and 80 (10.4% of black respondents and 2.5% of white respondents).
