Products - Life Cycle Approach

Life Cycle Approach (General Product)

• BS EN ISO 14001• Use approved Suppliers• Supplier surveys• Source locally where

possible• Use recycled

materials/recycled content• Solar power• Energy efficient equipment,

heating and lighting• Waste prevention• Effective use of RM’s

• Packaging recyclable• High yield products• Package size designed for

product waste minimisation• Hazard reduction/prevention

• More difficult• Innovate for end of life• Little/no direct control over

end of life for used product

How can we be responsible for what we produce, once it has left site?

Applied life cycle approach to individual aspects

We identified that packaging could be influenced positively by us, throughout the life cycle

But to do this, we would need to:

Source packaging

responsibly

Encourage our

customers to take

responsibility

Provide them with the

tools to do it

• Sourced bottles with recycled content

• Sourced buckets and bottles that are recyclable

• Reduced plastic volume by moving to recyclable pouches for some products

The pouches are waterproof and extended shelf life therefore

reducing customer waste

Plastic packaging is recyclable –however this is reliant upon

recycling facilities being available and customers using them

January 2019 launched a pilot scheme with 10 distributers

providing a container/bin to take back plastic bottles and buckets

FOC

These are collected by us, sorted and sent for recycling

Engaged with customers, provided advice and continual support to assist in maximising the usage of the scheme

Collect data on returns from each distributer to measure uptake and enable us to feedback data to customers

Scheme has been very positively received

Provided the platform to continue to develop our moral obligation to protect the environment, wherever possible through taking responsibility

Put the infrastructure and resource into place to support this

Paving the way for future innovation and driving positive change in a quickly and continually evolving social, economic and environmental climate

Just one aspect of our sustainability commitment
