SCHOOL EVENTS
AC DEB MEMORIAL LECTURE The Society for the Advancement of Education (SAE) which manages the Cambridge Schools in
Delhi and the NCR, hosted the 8th AC Deb Memorial Lecture in New Delhi on 6th February, 2020.
This year, SAE was privileged to have Dr. Shashi Tharoor, Member of Parliament, former
international diplomat and well-known author as the guest speaker. Dr. Tharoor shared his views
on the topic “If business as usual is not working, then what could?".
Dr. Tharoor was joined by Ms. Karuna Nundy, a respected Supreme Court Lawyer focusing on
constitutional law, commercial litigation and arbitration, media law and legal policy. She is also a
champion of women's rights.
The annual event, now in its 8th year, honours the memory of the founder of Cambridge School,
Shri Alok Chandra Deb. who started the first Cambridge school in 1931. Shri AC Deb firmly
believed that the way to live up to the school moto of ' We Learn to Serve' could only be achieved
by developing character, curiosity, competence and self-awareness in every child. More than 300
people, including respected guests of the SAE, students and alumni of the Cambridge Schools
attended the lecture.
BIDDING ADEIU TO STUDENTS OF CLASS XII
On 1st February, 2020, Cambridge School, Noida bid farewell to the batch of 2019-20. The
Farewell Ceremony was held in the Roma Deb auditorium. The moment of bidding adieu to the

outgoing batch of Class XII was a combination of happy, sad and proud feelings for the entire
school. It is the time of culmination of a journey of fourteen years of life filled with great
achievements and beautiful memories. A cultural programme which included foot tapping dance
numbers on a medley of songs was organized for the outgoing batch in the school auditorium. The
students of Class XI also sang mellifluous songs which drew an enthusiastic response from the
audience. The Head Girl and the Head Boy delivered their farewell speech in which they
expressed their gratitude to their mentors and cherished their beautiful journey in the school.
Sashes were presented to selected students who were conferred with funny titles. The Principal
presented the coveted titles of ‘Mr. Cambridge’ and ‘Ms. Cambridge’
Principal, Mr. Soumen Chakraborty addressed the students and wished them good luck. The
message from the manager of the school Dr. Kalyani Roy was also read by the Principal. Ms.
Nandita Sinha Roy VP (Academics) also showered their blessings on the students. The
programme culminated with a vote of thanks proposed by the Vice Head Boy.
VISIT TO BHAGWAT DHAAM –OLD AGE HOME
As part of the Interact Club Programme, five students of Class VII visited Bhagwat Dhaam –Old
Age Home in Mayur Vihar, Phase I, Delhi along with Ms. Bindu Muralidharan on 6th February,
2020. The objective of the visit was to give rations to the old age home bought from the money
collected from a charitable sale held in the school by the students. The students also spent time
with the members by singing songs for them and sharing their experiences. They met Mr. Y.B
Handa, a 98 year old member who took the students around the Old age home and also shared
some anecdotes of his younger days with them. He discussed about the present deteriorating
human values and motivated the students to react to the evils happening in the society. He was a
great inspiration to the students. The visit was an enlightening and enriching experience.
Community service
GLOBAL CONNECT
Cambridge School, Noida emphasises on the holistic development of its students in order to make
them world class citizens. The International School Education Programme helps students to
develop the skills, attitudes and values which enable them to understand and participate in a
globally connected world. On 6th February 2020, students from classes VII, VIII and IX interacted
with around 50 students from the United States of America, Pakistan and Bangladesh via
videoconferencing. The videoconference was a great learning experience for the enthusiastic
students. It helped them to understand and appreciate the diversity that surrounds them. It
enabled them not only to see the differences between many cultures but to explore similarities as
well.

Connecting Globally
AISSCE, AISSE – 2019-20
Cambridge School, Noida is a centre for AISSCE – 2019-20 and AISSE- 2019-20 and is also the
evaluation centre for AISSCE – 2020 and AISSE – 2020. Principal Mr. Soumen Chakraborty is the
Chief Nodal Superintendent. Our students are appearing at Ryan International School. Annual
Examination for classes VI to IX and XI will also be conducted in the school.
WORKSHOPS AND SEMINARS FOR STUDENTS
GREEN SCHOOLS PROGRAMME
Six students of class VI along with Ms. Promila Garyali attended the GSP Climate Change
Awards on 6thFebruary, 2020 at Stein Auditorium, India Habitat Centre, Lodhi Road, New
Delhi. The students were part of GSP audit team of the school, led by Ms. Susmita Dey. Green
School Programme is an initiative of Centre for Science and Environment in making students and
the school community sensitive to the environment through the Audit.
The students along with Ms. Kiran Sibbal, Ms. Bindu Muralidharan and Ms. Areeba Sundus
conducted the audit of all the six sections of the GSP Audit – Air, Energy, Food, Land, Water, and
Waste of the school and are involved in the process of making the school environmentally
sustainable. The GSP Audit tracks all the critical elements (mobility, energy consumption, food
consumption, biodiversity, water usage, sanitation and solid waste management) that directly or
indirectly contribute to global heating and empowers students to practice sustainable use of
natural resources. Students of various schools from different states of India were present at the
ceremony. Many interesting activities such as science fair, solar kit activity and quiz were also
organized for the students. It was a wonderful learning experience for the students. It provided
them the opportunity to explore and interact with people who are actively involved in practices
aimed at sustaining resource efficiency in schools and exchange ideas.

INTACH FILMIT FESTIVAL
INTACH organized a FILMIT festival in collaboration with India International Centre on 6th
February, 2020. FILMIT is a multi-cultural project that aims at nurturing cultural understanding,
care and concern amongst school children through the exciting experience of making and sharing
films. Many schools participated in this program along with 3 students of Cambridge school,
Noida. Each school had to prepare one student to speak/recite a poem/sing a song/or mime on
the FILMIT Experience for 1 minute as part of the Festival.
The hard work and efforts of the students were recognized and appreciated. Srijan Batra of class
VIII B won a prize for the best film with a cause and Vedant Bansal of class VIII B as awarded a
prize for the best script.

VISIT TO BILLABONG INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL
Eighteen students of Cambridge School, Noida visited Billabong International School to attend the
Annual Science Exhibition Matrix-2020 on the theme Utopia- A step towards Climate Action, on
7th February, 2020 accompanied by Ms. Bindu Muralidharan. The objective of the visit was to gain
experiential learning by interacting with the students and discussing about the exhibits on display.
The exhibition included theme based models, role plays, street plays, robotics, astronomy, band
and music, interactive mind games. Students from all the grades participated in the exhibition. It
was an enriching experience for the students.

INTER- SCHOOL THEME BASED GARDEN COMPETITION
On 13th February, 2020 a team of five students along with the school gardener Mr. Sukhpal were
escorted by Ms. Neetu Dixit, to Cambridge School, Srinivaspuri to participate in the Inter-School

Theme Based Garden Competition and Quiz organized by the host school. Pulkit Verma,
Nishka Jain and Soumyata Ghosh of class VI along with the gardener Mr. Sukhpal created a
beautiful model garden on the theme ‘Paradise Regained’ under the guidance of Ms. Susmita
Dey and Ms. Promila Garyali. Aradhya Paul and Harshita Singhal of class VIII participated in the
Quiz on Garden Plants and bagged the First position and the trophy.

THEATRE IN EDUCATION, MATHEMATICS CLASS- VII
The Department of Mathematics, Cambridge School, Srinivaspuri organised Theatre in
Education presentation on the topic Comparing Quantities for class VII students on 05th
February, 2020 in the school auditorium. Mr. Vivek Singh and Ms. Sangeeta Das from Cambridge
school, Noida attended the presentation. The concept of Ratio and Proportion was discussed by
enacting a birthday party. Similarly, the idea of profit and loss in a transaction was introduced by
simulating a market scene. Students were able to apply the formulae and understand the
relevance of such tools in day to day life. Students were motivated to analyse profit/loss,
percentage increase/decrease etc. in their day to day dealing such as shopping. The act was
concluded with a fun dance sequence. Overall, it was an enjoyable learning experience for the
students.

CAPACITY BUILDING FOR TEACHERS
BREAST CANCER AWARENESS TALK
On World Cancer Day, 4th February, 2020 a presentation on Breast Cancer was held in Manav
Rachna International School, Noida. Dr. Rajinder Kaur Saggu, a Surgical Oncologist at
Indraprastha Apollo Hospital, New Delhi was the resource person.
Dr. Saggu focussed exclusively on breast cancer and benign Breast Diseases. Breast Cancer is
emerging as a major public health problem and Dr. Saggu spoke about the symptoms and risk
factors which cause this cancer in women. Methods of early detection and diagnosis, stages of
breast cancer, prevention and treatment etc. were explained in detail through a PPT very
effectively. Ms. Mamta Rishi, Ms. Shelly, Ms. Uma, Ms. Nupur and Ms. Jyoti Agarwal attended the
session. It was a very enriching session and each teacher was given a booklet containing all the
facts related to this disease.
WORKSHOP ON HAPPY CLASSROOM
A workshop was organised by CBSE on 7th February, 2020 at Scholars Home International
School, Greater Noida to promote the concept of Happy Classroom among the teachers. Ms.
Sobia Khan and Ms. Sangeeta Das attended the workshop from Cambridge School, Noida. The
resource persons were Dr Sandeep Kumar Jain and Dr. Rishipal Anand.
Dr. Sandeep Jain conducted a session on self-awareness. The teachers were asked to fill a
questionnaire based on their personal experiences. An interactive session followed this activity in
which the teachers discussed various situations encountered by them inside and outside the
classroom. The resource person then asked the teachers to work in groups and prepare a tool kit
for emotional self-regulation. It was indeed a very enriching session.
Dr. Rishipal Anand conducted a session on positive psychology and how it can be used to
promote the culture of happiness in classroom as well as in our day to day life. He also
emphasized the importance of storytelling approach and encourages the teachers to adopt this
approach even in subjects like Maths and Science. The workshop was very informative and
enriching.
CAREER COUNSELLING WORKSHOP
A career counselling workshop was attended by Ms. Sunetra Bannerjee and Ms. Latika Joshi at
Manav Rachna International School on 27thFebruary, 2020. The resource persons were Mr.
Parikshit and Ms. Shilpa from Mindler career guidance institute. They spoke on the various
new courses and subject combinations that students can choose in Indian and foreign universities
after class XII board exams. They spoke about selection procedure, financials, and importance of
interview when choosing a university. They also explained about admission procedures, academic

scores, co-curricular, LOR, Statement of purpose and interview process for universities in US, UK,
Canada, Australia and Germany. Mr. Parikshit emphasised that the preparation for these should
begin from class IX onwards and the students should be guided to develop core and basic skills
like reading, engaging in hobbies, besides doing syllabus related studies.
It was an enlightening and interesting session which was made more so by the humorous
presentation style of Mr. Parikshit.
COMPETITIONS AND ACTIVITIES
ARYABHATA GANIT CHALLENGE
During the session 2019-2020, CBSE had organised Aryabhata Ganit Challenge for the students
of classes VIII, IX and X. 5,457 schools participated in the event out of which 500 students were
from Cambridge School, Noida.
Kushagra Kumar of Class X-C qualified for the final level and is among the top 100 students.
