A MESSAGE FROM MONSIGNOR BROCKMAN
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
This weekend we observe a Called to Serve Weekend, how we are to be God’s family at work. It is our baptism that makes us part of that family, placing us in relationship with Him, Who calls us to serve the mission of His Church. That’s how we are not only disciples of Jesus, but also stewards of all He has given us, becoming God’s instruments through the work of our hands. So important then, to closely discern how we are called to serve, and why these Called to Serve weekends are observed three times per year, each focusing on different ministries through which our parish family works the mission of Christ.
See then this weekend in your pew, a card with a links for info on the ministries in focus each Fall (liturgical and community life ministries), as well as the invitation to prayerfully review your annual offering for the com-ing year, 2022. See in our bulletin this weekend too, our annual report on parish ministry and offering. Im-portant, as all of us need to review, at least annually how we give witness to who we say we are, serving as God’s instruments through our ministry and also how we return thanks to God for His many blessings and the hope that is ours in Christ. Ask God and discern then how it is you serve or can do so anew, as God would have your life, given and patterned after His own.
Know of my gratitude for all you do for our parish family and the many ways you witness to how you have been called to serve. With and prayers for you and your family, today and always
Msgr. David Brockman, V.G. Pastor

BREAKING THE STEWARDSHIP MOLDHave you noticed how we always tend to pigeon-hole one another — and ourselves? “I could never serve on the Parish Council. That’s for Rick and Ellen and that whole group of people who have done it for years.” “Greg takes care of faith formation in the parish — he always has. He doesn’t need my help.” “I can’t afford to give the big bucks like those fami-lies who sit up front can. My offering wouldn’t matter even if I did increase it.”
Thinking like this is a good indication that we aren’t in conversation with God about what His will is for our lives. If we have already decided what we are and are not meant to do, we aren’t likely to pray over it, to discern it.
We have to be open to the spirit of the Lord wherev-er it leads us, regardless of what we or others have come to expect from us. We human beings come to believe that we are such good judges of what others can offer — or what we ourselves can offer. But God has plans for us to which we aren’t privy. God calls everyone to serve Him in the way that pleases Him best, and only He can decide what that is. Everyday Stewardship demands a continual accounting of who we can be, what we can offer — even if it’s outside our comfort zone, even if it’s something that never occurred to us before.
There’s only one Person who can tell us what God wants from us. Do we even think to ask Him?

THE DAILY EXAMEN OF STEWARDSHIP“Stewardship” can get a bum rap these days. When folks hear the term “stewardship” from the pulpit, their eyes tend to kind of glaze over. “Here’s Father asking for more money,” they groan inward-ly, “Get ready for the passing of the pledge cards.”Christ refutes this idea when he gives us what he calls the greatest commandments — instructing us to love God and to love our neighbor. Now, Christ is a man who chose his words carefully. He meant exactly what he said — and he didn’t say that the greatest commandments were to tithe and to give money to charity. If he had wanted stewardship to be only about money, he would have said so.Sometimes we are indeed called to show our love for God and neighbor in the form of a financial gift. But the concept of Everyday Stewardship —living mindfully in prayer, grateful for our blessings, and gracious to our neighbors, committed to God, and accountable to each other — is about so much more.I propose a twist on the long-held practice of the “Daily Examen” — a pious devotion wherein, at day’s end, we go over the events of the last 24 hours and discern God’s will. A Daily Examen of Stewardship might contain questions like this:How did I love God today? In whom did I love Him? What did God give me today? With whom did I share it? What did I give to Him? To whom did I reach out today? Who reached out to me? Where was God on my list of priorities today? First? Second? Third, fourth?

SUBMISSION AS STEWARDSHIP
We aren’t comfortable with the idea of submission. Our society champions equality, and rightly so — but it’s a mistake to think that submission is at odds with equality. To submit ourselves fully, we must first be free. We must first be our own masters. God has granted us that freedom with the salvation He offers. We are no longer the slaves of sin. Now He asks us to be subordinate to one another, in the name of Christ.
What a completely uncomfortable task! What He’s asking is for us to be subordinate to the person who irritates us the most. The person we really can’t stand. The person who doesn’t respect us or appre-ciate what we have to offer. The person we think we’re smarter than, more talented than. The person we envy.
That’s the real challenge of stewardship, isn’t it? Subordination. Inconveniencing myself by giving of time, of money, of relationship. Putting the needs or wants of another above my own when they haven’t done anything special to earn it.
I invite you to consider the cross — the most radical expression of submission, and of stewardship, that ever existed. If there was ever someone who de-served superiority, isn’t it the God who let Himself be nailed to a tree, who gave so freely of His life, His body, His blood, His everything?
To look at him in his agony is to truly understand the beauty of submission — of laying down what you have for the good of the other.

Incomodándome a mí mismo dando tiempo, dinero, relaciones.

No necesita mi ayuda."
