Dear Team NSS, To serve the society, to serve the mankind is the best service we can do as young citizens of the country. we should consider ourselves the privileged few who have been bestowed with the comforts and luxuries of life. But out there are so many young children, youngsters who are intelligent, talented, and skilled as well as proficient, but the lack of opportunities and correct guidance keeps them away from the mainstream. it is here that you can make a difference. Your continuous guidance and efforts to make them better individuals will certainly ensure that the deprived are not left behind. let us all come together and work towards empowering all such young Indians for a better and skilled India.  My good wishes to you all and believe me make a difference in the life of one individual and you shall feel fulfilled and satisfied.

I believe that every individuals’ life is driven by flute responsibilities; Responsibilities towards oneself, towards family and towards society. But while fulfilling our desires and taking care of our family, we tend to forget our Social Responsibility. NSS gives you an opportunity to do your bit for our society, and at the same time, it also results in self-development. NSS offers you a platform to step out and help the society by working together as a unit and bringing about changes for the betterment of our society. I look forward to work with the NSS volunteers and support them in the activities that they undertake to perform their social responsibility.

PROF . SAV I TA DE SA I

In 1953 the late Prime Minister Pandit Nehru brought the idea of National service by the students of age group 18 to 20 years. After a lot of research and some recommendations, eventually, the Ministry of Education and Youth Service, Government of India launched the NSS in 1969 -70. The Philosophy of NSS was basically to make the Educational system more relevant to the demands of society by encouraging students' participation. In a world based on science and technology; it is the level of education that determine the progress, welfare and security of any nation. We seem to be conscious of many problems that our country faces, but the education system fails to equip them with sensitization and problem-solving skills. However, here at NSS students get a chance to use their creative power and imagination while performing the various activities, which in turn increases the sense of belongingness and the needs of society

DR . VANDANA M I SRA

NSS is not just an association it is a silent revolution which provides the students with the opportunity to organise themselves and work with the community for awareness of different social issues. It goes beyond the classroom teaching-learning process and set the students free to enrich with the experiences of real working by enabling them to connect with the different sections of the society. It inculcates the leadership qualities among the students, sensitise them towards the social issues and make the responsible citizen of our country. I wish all the best to all the NSS volunteers and appeal all our college students to avail the opportunity to connect with the movement of NSS!

Carter Road ProjectThis is a project wherein under-privileged kids of all age

groups are given education and soft skills training at Carter Road Promenade Area, Bandra

AIM of this project is to Supporting the teachers of Navjyot Charitable Trust in the cause of upliftment of the under-privileged kids by imparting education and

focussing on their all-round development. Everyone has a right to education but not everyone can enjoy their right. We believe that just by helping them a

little, they can take our society to all new heights and improve their standard of living.

“Teaching at Carter Road brought the biggest change in me, and here it is where I found the true inner me. At Carters our volunteers go over there and teach the

nearby underprivileged students and provide them with a pinch of hope by educating them. I feel blessed to have become one of the Carters Incharge as this role eradicated my negativity and selfishness. When I see these kids waking up so

early just to learn, I get inspired to teach them. At Carters, you not only teach these children but learn a lot of life lessons from them as well.”

Krunal Shah (Incharge)

“ As it's said 'Give him a pencil and he will build his own house', I believe that when we educate all kids, we lead them towards a better life. The NSS unit of NM College has been volunteering to teach these kids for the past few years, and the efforts put by

these volunteers is great. Their connection with the kids is so deep that the kids look up to them and try to be like them. Association with NM-NSS has made a lot of difference in these kids lives.”

Blood Donation Drive5th August, 2016

Blood Donation Drive is the signature event of NSS. Our aim is to motivate maximum people possible to donate blood so as to help those in need. Here at NM-NSS, we not only create awareness about the low availability of blood and the need of blood donations but also try to remove all myths around blood donation and encourage more people to donate more by providing them more Information regarding it. An event of almost 10 hours not only achieves its aim but also creates a lot of bonding among the NSS members.

“When you could help save so many lives by your effort, it feels amazing and so could I feel being a

part of such a big event. Though it was a tough task, but with the efforts of my co-incharges Akshay and Mayuri, along with all the NSS members and Core, the event was a great success, and we could collect 438 bottles of Blood in spite of such torrential rains.

A great day, successful event and the most important part was the Joy on each and everyone's

face.

Rakhi Selling11th August, 2016

While the world is busy pitying the challenged of the society, we at NSS  thrive togive them an opportunity to become self-sufficient. The challenged kids of

VallabhdasDagra Institute lacked nothing but opportunity to showcase theirtalent. Instead of asking for donations, what they asked for was a medium to sell

their products. Yes, the talented kids would sit in groups and spend their timemaking the rakhis, meticulously assembling each of the pieces. It is always a

delight to visit the children and see them working to be financially independent.NSS respected this and of course had to be the link between the creators and the

consumers. We decided to sell their rakhis for them. This decision taken over adecade ago has now become a meronym of NSS.

They prove, they are not disabled..just differently abled!

I’ve been an incharge of our Rakhi selling event and thus I know, never in my life have I been so

passionate about anything as I was about reaching out to maximum people and sell as many of the

amazing goods that the kids make. NSS has taught us to appreciate and respect the hard

work of these people that the society turns away from. Every step of making this event possible has taught me that the excuses made by the rest of us

are so easy to overcome if only we are as determined and hard working as that part of the society that we

look down upon. Our team of 100 learnt the lesson that’s going to stay with us for the rest of our lives: “disability is

not inability”

Residential Camp 24th to 30th JanuaryThe 7 day camp aims at at inculcating a feeling of social welfare among the students and also to ensure that students experience the problems faced by people in villages and come forward and help these villagers in any way possible and make developments to solve these day to day problems and hence ensuring that these people lead a better life than what they already do.

475 Villagers registered for Eye and General Check-up conducted by Nanavati Hospital 526 students thought about sanitation, behavioural ethics and life lessons. 2 compost pits dug 1200 Approx. Cloth items distributed among villagers 260 sanitary napkins distributed among girls at Vidhayak Sansad. Street Plays performed on Alcohol Addiction and Importance of Cleanliness. Villagers downloaded BHIM app successfully.

Usgaon in Palaghar district is the village adopted by NM Collge NSS

Day 1 - Interactive session for kids Day 2 - Compost pits and spoken English session for children, & road levelling Day 3 - Republic Day performance and Cashless Economy Propagation,  Career Counselling Day 4 - Medical Camp, spoken English sessions, Road Levelling Day 5- Sports Day, Movie Screening, creative activities, Painting of ZP schools Day 6- Kitchen Gardening,  Painting of ZP Schools, Creative activities for students Day 7 - General Meet

“People say “The Best Way to Find Yourself Is to Lose Yourself in the Service of Others”.   Well, the days of the camp made me realise the truth and the depth in

this statement. Practically there are only 7 days in our camp, but the work for the camp starts much much before, about 2 months before the date of the camp. And

with each passing day, you learn something new, something new about yourself as well as something new about our society, the way it works, the hardships people face, understanding their problems and coming up with solutions to solve them.

The experiences and feelings of those 7 days at camp are difficult to put into words, it is simply ineffable. Whether it is teaching girls at Vidhayak Sansad or the students of ZP Schools to digging compost pits or performing skits on Alcohol Addiction and Importance of Cleanliness to promoting cashless economy and

levelling of the road, those 7 days have been incredible.   The 7 days passed by too soon, but they left us with memories for a lifetime. The

things that we learnt about ourselves, the bond that we created with the kids there, is something we all will cherish for a very long time.

NSS gave us an opportunity to develop ourselves, overcome our fears, all this while selflessly serving the society. NSS made us realise the value of our two hands, one

to help ourself and the second to help others.”

Seven days' activities

Digital India & Banking Under this project, NM-NSS team promoted Cashless Economy by fosteringGovernment schemes like Sukanya Samriddhi scheme, Jan Dhan Yojna, Atal Pension Yojna, and many others.  After Demonetisation, NSS volunteers created awareness about the E-wallets and BHIM app among common man and shopkeepers of Andheri and Vile-Parle, as well as in the adopted village Usgaon during residential camp. Phase 1: Bank Schemes were introduced to help the people in need, to create a habit of savings,  to make people aware about those schemes and spread more awareness for the same. Phase 2: Digital Banking was introduced to go hand in hand with Government. To support their efforts of Cashless India and making people use less cash.

127 Successful Downloads of BHIM app

While working on this project, we came to know that people were really interested to know what are those schemes and how to go cashless. Their eagerness to know kept us motivated. And hence

the efforts taken by volunteers and incharges together were a great success to this Project!

Aashayein26th February, 2017Disability does not mean disability but an ability to do something better.  Aashayein" is an initiative taken by NM college's NSS unit with the motive of providing a platform to the special kids to showcase their hidden talent.  Filled with fun filled games, activities, and, performances, Aashayein brought about a new hope and positivity to life. It was an event designed for the mentally challenged and the visually disabled kids. It was divided into two parts. 1. Kids from National Association of Blind, Mahalaxmi came to college.  We conducted several games for them. Followed by a talent hunt. 2. Autistic Kids from MP Shah arrived our college campus. We also played a few interactive games with them and performed a few entertaining programs for them.

“Working for Aashayein event was a great opportunity. Our event was

packed with fun, laughter, enthusiasm from our fellow NSSites and most

importantly the kids that came. I learnt so much in this event.

I thank everyone who came for the event which made it successful and my

core members for giving me this opportunity.”

With the increasing space crunch in Mumbai and increasing pollution, we NSSites tried to overcome these problems. This is a project wherein we try to plant as many trees possible, adopt plants, inculcate the habit of kitchen gardening and also try keeping our city clean. As the name says, it's done with the aim to spread greenery around us and beautify our surroundings to compensate for the deforestation in whatever small ways possible. The Aim is to create a sustainable environment through green contribution to the environment and tracking the growth of such plants. In 2016-17 the NSS unit conducted two such programs. One was a 2-day Plant Adoption event in college on the occasion of Environment Day and the other was Kitchen Gardening drive at Smt. Kumudben Dwarkadas Vora Industrial home for Blind Women.

It is always a pleasure to plant saplings and see them grow into big trees. In NSS

we not only promote greenary among ourselves but also make other aware of the

need of these trees. It was fun to plant saplings with the blind girls of KDVI.

Student Police InteractionStudent Police Interaction is basically helping police during Ganpati Visarjan time when they actually need help and we get to learn real trouble policemen face. Not only this but Student Police Interactions help us to know how the city is managed and the law and order is maintained. Our aim here is to help and learn from our Mumbai police. There were two SPI , one of them was handling traffic during Ganpati Visarjan. The Other was a Workshop conducted by Traffic Department, Mumbai Police where we learned some traffic rules and regulations and also experience the challenges faced by traffic police.

SPI was overall a fun and one of the most awaited university event. There were about 21 people for a day's event and the support of the members was

amazing no matter what it was an amazing experience The one you'll realise only when you

attend and feel it yourself.

Experience worth sharing

NSS is the reason for where I am today...before joining NSS social service was just a mere action but now it is that feeling which always drives us to do something

good not for ourselves but for others. The journey was a beautiful experience and will always be the best

Social service and happiness walk hand in hand now!! Coz after all, it's NOT ME BUT YOU

NMNSS has been a school itself, which taught me confidence, observance, patience, management of events on a great scale

and a lot more which may not be expressed. It has been a platform where I could proudly practice social activity.

It has been a family, supporting me in my bad and encouraging at my good. Now after a year, I feel NSS is an

emotion which no NSSite will ever stop feeling. When I speak of my experiences about the events or

activities, it always encourages me to work towards it and gives satisfaction to me. Be it Carter Road in the morning like

a Sunday trip or Camp which took me in a different world. Proud NMNSSite FOREVER.

The event which is so amazing in itself. In this we get articles made by specially abled people and help them by selling it in and around our College. I still remember we were almost out of stock on our 1st day only and I had to send volunteers to VDI to bring

the stock! People were crazy about the RAKHIS and OREO chocolates!

The smile VDI kids have on their faces when we go there to bring the articles is doubled when we return the empty boxes. This is

when you feel satisfied because you were the reason of someone's happiness!

Coz all it needs is "THODA SA DIL AND THODI SI WILL"

Jayana Shah

NMNSS has given me a great platform. Being able to attend the camp in the first year was a great experience. Fun with work

and friends is what I got along with being able to serve people. The Blood Donation Drive is the closest to my heart as it gives a satisfying feel that I am able to contribute to the society in a

small way. I thank NMNSS to give me the opportunity to handle the SPI event. It imbibed in me a sense of responsibility.
