They will be teaching students how to extend the lives of their textiles with tips on stain removal, proper laundering, and basic sewing repairs. They are looking for volunteers to fill 30 minutes or 1 hour slots between 11am to 6pm in District House B114 on Wednesday, February 14th. Volunteers would staff the table dedicated to sewing, showing students how to make minor sewing repairs. Sustainable GW also invites people to attend the event or donate unwanted clothing. SUMMER VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY BE A NATIONAL PARK SERVICE AMBASSADOR THIS SUMMER Looking for a fun and productive way to spend your summer 2019? The National Park Service Ambassadors program is looking to engage vibrant college students with the desire to lead and mentor high school students. Volunteers will spend days during the month of June and July facilitating fun excursions in National Parks across the DC area. For more information, reach out here. D.C. HUNGER SOLUTIONS RECRUITING VOLUNTEERS VOLUNTEER AT MDA SUMMER CAMP The Muscular Dystrophy Association offers children living with neuromuscular disease the opportunity to attend a free one week sleep away summer camp. At over 30 camp locations nationwide, children gather for what many consider to be “the best week of the year.” That is because at camp they focus on abilities rather than disabilities! In order to make camp possible, they rely on many amazing volunteers. For individuals 18 or older and available for a multi-day camp, they encourage those to apply to join as a volunteer counselor or medical staff member. Volunteers work with campers, providing around-the-clock care and attention. Counselors push wheelchairs, meet the daily needs of each child and become a youngster’s friend for a week. Medical staff supervise and maintain the health and well-being of our campers by dispensing medications, delivering first aid and more. Learn more about this great opportunity and apply here. PALS PROGRAM RECRUITING VOLUNTEER COUNSELORS VOLUNTEER WITH CAMP PALS THIS SUMMER PALS Programs designs immersive experiences where young adults with Down syndrome and their peers have fun, grow as individuals, and build transformative friendships. Camp PALS is a one-week long, overnight sleepaway camp run at 14 locations across the country from June to August. Camp PALS is now welcoming applications for individuals between the ages of 16-30. Volunteer counselors are paired one-to-one with Campers and spend the week on teams at college campuses as they build new friendships, explore new regions, and take part in dynamic programming. YOU ARE INVITED ACTIVE CITIZENS CONFERENCE The annual Active Citizens Conference brings together 100 students from across the region to practice the skills and perspectives of community engagement and civic leadership. Students, faculty, and community members alike, are encouraged to submit workshop sessions! If you are interested in submitting a 50-minute workshop proposal, you can do so here. JOIN THE DIALOGUE 2019 SUMMIT ON HOMELESSNESS AND POVERTY Last year, students at Brown University held the first inaugural Summit on Homelessness and Poverty. In doing so, they brought together a coalition of student organizations from across the country dedicated to dismantling systems that perpetuate hunger, homelessness, and poverty. This year, the Summit will be hosted by Duke University and UNC-Chapel Hill. If you or a student organization you are a part of are engaged in meaningful service and want to contribute to this conversation, consider registering! The Summit will take place March 1-3, 2019. YOUTH SERVICE AMERICA GRANT SODEXO STOP HUNGER FOUNDATION YOUTH GRANTS $400 grants are available for youth leaders ages 5-25 across the U.S. to turn their ideas into action and make an impact on the issue of childhood hunger on Global Youth Service Day (April 12-14, 2019) and beyond. $400 Summer 2019 Sustainability Grants will also be awarded to up to 25 youth grantees to sustain and continue their GYSD projects. REVISING THE CANON: BLACK ART LIBERATION FILM SCREENINGSSlam screening on February 13th at 7pm; and Colored Frames and In Motion: AmiriBaraka screenings at 7pm on February 20th. All screenings will take place in the BrentwoodArts Exchange gallery space (3901 Rhode Island Ave, Brentwood, MD)

To celebrate Black History Month, the Brentwood Arts Exchange has partnered with independentcurator and filmmaker Dawne Langford to select a group of films featuring Black artists andmagnifying art as being instrumental to the process of liberation, while centering self-definedpresentations of creative productions. Consider attending one of their screenings as part of theirfilm series. All screenings are free.
